Really?

Vieria and Diarra, Protecting Ledley King (PFA team of the year at his peak, when Tottenham just missed out on 4th, and when fit is undeniably a great player, but this is rare now) and Henning Berg (treble winner, 2 time with 2 different clubs PL Champion.)

I don't mind that, plus I think I have one of the best set of full-backs.

But I thought the point of this game is the players' average PL performance, not their best season, otherwise I'd have picked one season wonder Philips as my striker.

Nah, Hleb's a pretty good pick considering how far you are into the game, I can't think of a better winger.

Diarra and Baines are a bit odd though. Diarra is of course a great player, but I can think of a couple other CMs who managed to maintain a very high level over several seasons.

Neill was great for Blackburn - definitely among the top 14 right backs, though I still think there's one right back which should be picked ahead of him, who hasn't been picked yet.

Baines or Veron would be my picks for worst picks so far.

Fair enough - I never really rated Neill

I've got at least 3 right backs who I am suprised have not been picked yet (although one also played a lot on the wing).

If they are not picked at all then i will reveal my list of players that i considered at the end...

I can only think of one, but his form at his second club is probably causing him not to be picked. I've been surprised at a lot of picks to be honest, especially some United players..

I won't use your method of sarcasm and ridicule to point things about the other team and it might well prove important for you. Personally, I gauge that Gullit wasn't anywhere great or good at CB for Chelsea. He was better in midfield. So, if I were you, I'd envisage more getting a CB than either of the choices you were envisaging yourself...
 
I went to most games in Gullit's first season with us and he played about half the time at the back (as a sweeper in a back three rather than centre back) and he was fanstastic for us. To say "he wasn't good" is crazy.

I seriously thought about picking Heinze just now as there is not much left to choose in left backs (which I why I suppose people have resorted to picking someone like Baines) but it is likely to be a suicidal pick so I did a bit of thinking and came up with Steve Staunton.

I'm going to defend my pick of Veron here since many are giving him some unfair stick. I don't think many doubt his quality but his time in the English League was marred by injuries. He actually started quite well in the 01/02 season, and he thrived particularly in the system I am playing now where he is the focal point of the team with one water carrier in Hamann (Phil Neville then) and Scholes playing further forward, in my case Poyet being the midfielder driving forward. Without someone stealing his limelight he certainly showed glimpses of his quality particularly in big games, scoring against Arsenal in a vital 2-0 win in December 02, as well as playing a wonderful over the top ball for Forlan to score a terrific last minute winner against Chelsea at OT. He was unfairly given a lot of stick I feel as he could always provide a moment of magic and he was showing his quality just as he was abruptly sold to Chelsea where once again he started well but injuries took its toll.

As Sir Alex would say, he's a fecking great player, youse are all fecking idiots :D
 
I agree Melvin. Veron was, is and always will be a legend in my eyes. Always played well in Europe aswell (Not that that matters in this - just making the point). He also had a brilliant pre-season the summer we sold him.

Whoa, whoa, whoa Matt. That's blasphemy right there.

Heinze had a great first season admittedly, but after that he was utter garbage. Veron is still one of the most talented players I have ever seen, what he couldn't do with a football isn't worth knowing about.

I dont think many would disagree that he is a good player but he was clearly a failure in the Premier League and not only for 1 season or at 1 club.

You could pick Forlan, Poborsky or Shevchenko for qualities they showed outside the Prem but all of them will be remembered as failures based on their time in England.
