Fantasy Draft DISCUSSION ONLY Thread

I find it quite ironic that my goalkeeper is saving a penalty from your last pick in the previous post ;)

Ill trump that when I pick Andy Johnson next, you know, that goal... :p

I had to make the choice out of overmars, pires, robben, kanchelskis because i wanted good wingers. See they are both gone now, can't think of many more amazing wingers tbh.

I know of two still that are very good. I wanted Kanchelskis first but Overmars is a close second.

I was actually seriously thinking of having a trade round after round 16, where each person can put forward up to three players they would be interested in trading, and leave a thread open for say 2-3 days and any deals can be agreed upon within that period. I probably will do that, but lets just get the 16 rounds out of the way first, its moving at a decent rate so far.

You mean Round 11, surely? Are we to pick 16 players, Eric?

A suggestion that might make things interesting - why not have a pick for a manager as well for the team selected?

I guess not! After 11 rounds of picks, it would be Melvin's first choice... ;)

But, on another note, I guess, we ourselves are meant to be the managers of the team. And I guess that picking a manager for the team would be like having to dictate the likes of SAF what to do, which doesn't sound quite right...

I guess it will be more fun to have all be our own managers.

To be fair, Paul Jewell did a very decent job with Wigan with a very tight string budget (Wigan are notably the team with the lowest average attendance in the Premier League)...

Some of you on here don't seem to have ever watched David Batty play. That's the only thing I can say of those who rate him as you do...

That's obviously not true about anyone discussing him, I doubt. I watched him at Blackburn, Newcastle and for England. I remember him well.

Seriously, I rate David Batty every bit as good as Paul Ince. We, at United, never really needed to get such a player with the likes of Keane and Ince in the first team and Butt waiting in the offing. It would have been overcrowding a department we never really suffered in in those early Premiership years.

No, at United, the players you mention are just much better. Ince included, who scored more goals, was more creative in the final 3rd and technically superior. He though, was surplus to requirements with Keane and Butt at the club. I don't agree Fergie would ever have been interested in Batty.

There have been, to my estimation, extremely few players in Premiership history who could selflessly work for 95 minutes at 120% for the sake of the team other than David Batty. And you don't get voted to the Premiership teams of the year three times in the times of the likes of Keane, Ince by being anything near the mediocrity some of you are making others think David Batty can be considered at. He's very far from that. Anyway, I can understand the hatred and the lack of recognition he gets on here.

Severely under-rated.

I don't hate Batty, he was a good player. My point was that I was surprised he was picked when he was (I can think of better players in the same position, I'll speak up only when said players are picked as that would be unfair) and I don't think he was that good. A hard worker, if a bit limited to be perfectly honest. He was behind many players for the England team for a reason.

I couldn't tell you if 3 times in Premier League team of the year is true or not. I'm surprised if it is.

That won't work, whoever starts first picks Sir Alex and the next few picks Mourinho, Wenger & O'Neill, everyone else is completely screwed...

Agreed. Only 4 manager's have won the thing and by the 8th or 9th it could get quite desperate. I don't think manager's is a good idea.

Oops my bad, I meant Round 11! Got mixed up with the 16 participants.

Its getting really, really interesting and difficult now. I love this game

Anyone surprised with some of the names still remaining?

There are some I hope don't go by the time my turn comes back around.

I have two strikers for the final position, a CM combo in mind, and two CB's along with backups incase they are taken.

There's a few names I am surprised about. As I mentioned earlier one of them is a striker that I'm probably going to be pick next time, if he's still avaiable by then.

I have a couple of midfielders and defenders, but my options on the wings are very limited.

Same problem here :(

I've got the greatest left-winger in Premiership history :D

A balance of strengths all over the pitch is optimal.

Look at Liverpool today for instance, like it or not, they have a very good goalkeeper, central defence, central midfield and strikers. But they have no width whatsoever and they are a poor team for it. The same could be said of Chelsea who havent looked as formidable since they abonodoned their 4-3-3 under the days of Mourinho. Alternatively, there are teams with good wingers (i.e. Spurs) but a crap core to the team.

Also, when everyone is posting up their team summary, it will be interesting to see what tactics they adopt. More on this later.

I can tell you it is so.

Not all people rate others the same. Yes, there were other players I had in mind, but, made my choice. Either way, it seems it is not going to go down well with most on here for whatever reason... And I just stand by my pick in any case. Keegan was one of those who was extremely impressed with the work ethic and ability of Batty in midfield. The demise of Keegan at Newcastle somewhat signalled the same for Batty...

basically no picks at all yet today?

where the feck is esmufc09? he used to practically live on the Caf !

I went for Given, needed a goalkeeper as there are surprisingly few to choose from, and Given is one of the best there has been.

Sorry for not picking sooner, had a busy couple of days.

I was torn between Given and Seaman but Seaman got the nod because he was won 2 Premier Leagues.
