Fabregas

We are debating different things then. I am talking about this window right now, not Manchester United's buying power. It's all good having the money, but where are the actual players.....

Come back to this at the end of the window. Its a mute point at this stage of the window even though your point might be proven true.

When I say a Plan B I am talking about a top quality acquisition not a lower quality one and I mean in this transfer window.

My point is no club buys poor quality. They all hope that the player will be good to top quality. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way eg Ashley Young, Djemba-Djemba and other such failures. Sometimes, you need a player but can't always get top quality. We wanted Eden Hazard but Van Persie instead.

At the start of pre-season he said we needed to sign someone. He's reliable our Paddy.

Paddy's probably been carpeted for going "off message" but he can be a bit blinkered at times. Anyway, can we finally throw the first handful of dirt into the grave of the Fabregas transfer saga (or borefest, depending on your point of view?).

Oh really. Care to explain why we bid twice for him?

You mean the bids that were ridiculously low???

I'm not going to look it up to be sure I'm right about this, but as I recall Barcelona paid Arsenal 32m to acquire him. I'm also under the impression that Arsenal has their hand to whatever degree in any subsequent sale, meaning that Arsenal had/has a percentage stake (50%) in any sale over a pre-set amount. Published reports, I believe had our first bid at 25m and our second bid at 30m.

Fabregas is in the prime of his playing career and he plays for a club which wants to keep him and which he wants to remain with. He is no promising youth and he is no aging superstar.

In other words, were the bids to be serious they had to start at well north of a ridiculous 25m. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we topped out at 30m. Why we bid twice for Fabregas is a matter of pure speculation -- some may argue that we put in a lowball bid to see if could get lucky or that we tried to unsettle Barcelona or that it was a "smokescreen" while we wrap up negotiations for Ronaldo and others may argue a more nefarious motive, whatever one may dream up. I'm not qualified to argue "why" we refused to submit serious bids for Fabregas, but surely there can't be any disagreement that we were never going to get Fabregas for 30m. Are we not in agreement on this narrow point?

I seriously hope the line about us understanding their position and not trying for him anymore is bullshit spouted to appease their fans because look at they way they are conducting the David Luiz transfer. Chelsea have stated several times that they don't want to sell and still yesterday their director was rumored to be in London trying to sort out the deal (according to British and Spanish press). If there is actually a chance of this happening we shouldn't 'give up' out of courtesy.

It's pretty clear that the Fabregas bids(which you knew would be rejected) were all part on an elaborate scheme to sneak in and get that shaved Bigfoot from Everton on the quiet.

Today is the the day for the third bid, I reckon.

There is no dishonor in a third bid. Let's go for it, but no more fukking around. If we do pull this off, jizz launchers will be fully activated. And if we don't pull it off, no fourth bid. Time to move on and bring in Fellaini as our last resort option.

Sounds like a deal could be agreed. If we had moved on, then Moyes would have said! The dodge of the question is telling IMO.

Or there is no news to report.

Could be, but Moyes has been very open with telling us updates on this transfer. I'm sure that if there was no news to report, then he would of said.

Oh for this to happen...the whole Fabregas link would then be genius!

Or we could be being really naughty and bidding up to the level where the Arsenal 50% clause doesn't kick in and preparing to offer Barca 10m for one of their kids.

A bit like the deal Barca allegedly struck with Santos for Neymar - 18m for him (that Santos had to share) and 10m for first options on some of their youngsters.

Just a bit of conspiracy fun.

Incidentally Mundo Deportivo who still don't have a direct quote from Fabregas say that Moyes hasn't given up but Woodward has. Who knows.

Seems like it doesn't make any difference what we are told...nothing has happened. Very frustrating.
