Agreed. I think he's got better with each game played this season.

The whole twin thing is great. Looking at how good Rafael has become means that we can be pretty damn confident that it's only a matter of time before his bro hits the same heights.

Same with Smalling I think, who I was not convinced by at all early on. He's coming on very good though. If Fabio can improve like his brother has and Evans can find the form he had last year, then our defence is sorted for the considerable future considering the ages of those 4 players (Da Silvas 20, Smalling 21, Evans 22).

He's basically Rafael 18 months ago imo. He is more attack minded in my opinion even if we maybe havent seen it fully in the first team. Rafael stills makes school boy errors aswell but through experience is gradually improving that side of his game.

Mmmm... Smalling's trajectory hasn't been as smoothly upwards as Fabio's.

Smalling started off poorly, began to look quality, then returned to the nervousness and errors seen in his first few games. Obviously, he didn't play for long last night but I thought he wasn't much better than Evans against West Ham. I really hope Rio is ok for Arsenal.

No, I have just seen Evra playing for France to know enough.Again I'm not saying he is a bad player. It's as if some of our players can't have their image tarnished by criticism.

There aren't too many left-backs I've seen who are above Evra's current level. Maldini, Brehme, Lizarazu, Roberto Carlos, Lahm, Pearce maybe, Ashley Cole maybe, Irwin maybe.

We've all seen great players under-perform for their countries. That's no way to judge their true quality. Watching Evra in a United shirt these last few years should provide more than enough evidence that he's one of the very best left-backs in the world.

Nothing to with tarnishing anyone's image. Just find it odd that you are under-rating such a clearly top class player.

I consider Evra as one of the best in the world but not one of the best I've seen in my life.
How is that underrating him ? Please explain it to me

Well, putting that aside, it means you reckon Fabio is destined for greatness. Let's hope so!

I know what you mean about 'more complete' - certainly from an attacking point of view Fabio has more in his locker. The question is over whether he will ever be able to defend as well. One thing about Evra is that despite being a bit diddy he has a fantastic leap on him and he's quite a hard bastard really.

Yeah let's swap Fabio and Anderson.

Then we could stick Smalling on the wing, Giggs in goal, Scholes and Rooney at centre-back, Berbatov right-back and Carrick up front.

Then we could sign Delfouneso, Guthrie, Karl Henry and David Jones, promote Wootton, Norwood and Will Keane and obviously win every trophy going.

You never seem to be happy with what we've got. He's done well where he is, and you've got no evidence to go on he would be better in midfield. As a matter of fact considering where he's played for the last 10 years of his life, it's proposterous to suggest he learns a new skill set and completely different discipline in an area he'd struggle to break into.

I'm convinced you just see a random moment a player does, or a random skill that could be beneficial elsewhere on the field, and think "I know, this will be controversial" and post it. There is no basis for many things you say.

Actually we could do with someone who actually has balls like Vidic and doesn't look scared like Evans and Smalling.

Scholesy made a perfectly reasonable point. It's quite possible that Fabio only started playing on the left to make room for his (then) weaker brother on the right. This may of course not be true, and maybe you know better?

If so please enlighten us instead of replying with a stupid fecking smiley.

Could he play in midfield as well then?

Scholesy thinks so, perhaps you could give your opinion.

My opinion is that with Scholesy's posting history where he recommends obscure players and thinks players should swap postitions any other post, it's laughable.

Hence the

Its certainly not the first time that its been suggested that either Fabio or Rafael could play in midfield. Being as attack minded as Fabio is, and with a world class player keeping him out of the side, its not a ludicrous suggestion to think that he could possibly refine his game to play more advanced.

I think its unlikely to happen, but i dont think its laughable.

Just focussing on the "left back" bit of Scholesy's post it's predictably unhinged. He finds it "strange" that we're picking a young player in the position he's always played throughout his career?

Also, why should Fabio be "back-up" for someone exactly the same age as him - that plays on the opposite flank to the one he's used to - when our current left-back is pushing 30 years old?

The green smilie was the appropriate response.

Actually, completely ignoring him would probably be better.

Thanks. I've wondered what Fabio would be like as a right-back myself.

I've also learned a bit about posting history. His, and yours.

I still find it strange why Fabio is a left back. I would prefer him as backup to Rafael I think, and I also think he could be in midfield.

I don't know about the midfield bit but I don't think thats the most controversial post you've done.

He doesn't look all that natural on that side going forwards even if it is the position he's featured in most of his fledgling career thus far. But hopefully its just a case of getting experience and working on things in training i.e. crossing better with his left and just being able to use his left foot in general especially passes down the line (short or long).

Unless I'm mistaken, didn't Fabio play in midfield in the CC once? Or did I imagine it? I also seem to recall someone saying he's well in midfield for the reserves. I can't be imagining both, surely?
