Ok Guys. I am not very familiar with League 1, so can I ask you guys to give me some 101 info about him. As far as I understand (watching from CL of course) Bakayoko is also a defensive mid. In fact he has been very consistent in his performances, and I feel that Fabinho; although very good, yet gets a alot of help from him.
I just fear that we may actually be doing a Morgan Schneiderlin here.

Bakayoko is the more active destroyer who goes around and breaks up the play while Fabinho is the one who sits back and shields the defense. Schneiderlin is a box to box midfielder who did best when partnered with Wanyama who did more of the dirty work. They're different players really.

Monaco play with two defensive midfielders but the team around them is more adventurous. If Fabinho comes, I think we'd be playing 4-2-3-1 only at home against the weaker sides, in which case he should cope just fine. Mostly I'd expect us to play 4-3-3 and he'd have Herrera to help him out.

We seem to brief typically when we've missed out on a target and pretend we were never in

Thanks. But I was wondering that with Him in the side; wouldn't we be playing 4 1 2 3. Or a triangle midfield. Can you please elaborate on the formation which you have in mind

Against a 4-1-2-3-1 we'd be unbeatable. It'd almost be like we had an extra player on the pitch.

Yes, so I would prefer a calmer presence in Fabinho. We already have Herrera who is our active destroyer, and is competent enough to drop back in case Fabinho chooses to push up, especially for set pieces. Fabinho is not on Carrick's level in terms of positioning and passing range (who is?), but he is much more mobile so that makes up for it.

Preferences for our CDM slot, in order:

1. Fabinho
2. Matic
3. Casemiro
4. Matuidi
5. Lee Cattermole
6. Yaya Toure
7. Joey Barton
8. Retired Slippy G
9. Mr. Potato Head
10. Eric Dier

Carrick was decently mobile in his prime though. Fabinho is still young so I hope he can improve if we sign him, especially in terms of positioning.

You mean Zlatan? ;)

I'd assume if we sign Fabinho we'd be playing 4-3-3 (triangle midfield). Not sure whether Herrera would play alongside Pogba or behind Pogba alongside Fabinho. You generally don't spend this kind of money for a benchwarmer and Herrera's too good to drop.

True, Carrick was quite mobile when it mattered, snuffing out dangers that Rio or Vidic could have missed. Fabinho has all the time and talent to develop into a monster of a DM, has the right physical and mental attributes for it.

As for the midfield trio, I think with the 3 of them, it would be flexible enough. Usually Herrera and Pogba will be the ones who will be pushing up, Pogba doing what he does best, while Herrera has hell of a good cross from deep/corner of the opponents box that I have seen a few times this season, while whoever started on the right wing will be pushing for width, or tucking in and allowing Valencia to bomb forward. I can see Fabinho pushing up at times too, rotating with Herrera, with both having the legs to get back to help out if the attack breaks down. This will allow Pogba to be more free in his role, thought I have to say that he has improved in his defensive side a lot under Jose.

Please just get this done. No more fecking about, tick off the CDM box with the best possible candidate (Fabinho) and move on to other areas of need.

Don't want to hear any excuses if they somehow manage to screw this up and try justifying how an inferior CDM which they ended up signing will end up doing as good of a job as this gem would/will. You want to be known as one of the biggest clubs in the world along the likes of RM and Barca? Fecking get the best guy available who you've targeted, no ifs or buts end of story.

The thing I don't get with this is, Dier and Matic I assume would be harder to get and especially in Dier's case more expensive. Also, Dier and Matic are proper destroyer type DM's where as Fabinho is more like a Herrera. I thought in an ideal world we would have a destroyer type DM to play in between Pogba and Herrera.

What Fabinho could be getting bought for is the RB slot long term. Valencia will be 32 by the time next season starts and Fabinho used to be a RB before. This would then allow the MEN to say 'look we were right, Fabinho wasn't a midfield target'

I'm starting to think the main reason we're not interested in Fabinho is precisely Mendes. Are we after any of his players? Isn't Mourinho supposedly to keep on serving his agent's interests, like he did so well in the past? My guess is they had a fallout following Real Madrid and Chelsea's debacle, where Mendes players had a great part (Pepe, Ronaldo, then Diego Costa), and now Mourinho is not risking it anymore.

If they'd had such a falling out Jose would get himself a new agent.

Di Marzio said two days ago there was a bid, and one of his staff said yesterday we are in talks. It's only MEN insisting no interest. Simon Stone said whilst he heard weeks ago that we aren't interested, that things might change.

Matic is easier to get than Fabinho. Chelsea are looking to offload him. Monaco on the other hand would want to keep Fabinho and demand silly sums for him.

I thought Fabinho wasn't represented by Mendes?

City got Silva done with no hassle. Their CEO openly stated Juve were interested in players, martial wasn't a full blown saga. I don't think Monaco are like Madrid.

Looks like we're going for Matic.

For Martial Monaco needed money. As for the rest, it depends on the player will to move, if Fabinho is happy to stay, Monaco won't push him out.

agree, however i think fabinho's words speak clear enough that if we are really bidding/talking then he'd probably push for it.

IIRC Monaco had already promised to let Fabinho go in this transfer window since he stayed on for another season. And it's not as if they will be selling him for some insanely low price.

Couldn't it be easily possible that Monaco tried screwing Juve out of more money by saying we bid €50m for Fabinho.

Seems Di Mario got the link by Juve chasing a cheaper option after being told we'd bid more.

Or Fabinho's agent. But an important information for people is that Monaco is a place where most italian agents spend a lot of time, it's possible that Di Marzio got his information from one of them and not from Juventus.

good to know.

I was actually thinking, when was the last time we had BBC and Di Marzio on opposite sides of a rumour? Even though Stone has clarified his position somewhat, it's still two high profile journos getting opposite info.

Seems he'd be replacing Herrera rather than Carrick in the starting 11. Looks more box to box than an out an out holding midfielder.
