Confused I thought BBC said that we aren't interested in him. If we can afford one more midfielder then I'm happy, no complain.

That was clearly a briefing from the club which usually isn't the whole truth. Probably too early for the club to confirm interest or it looked like he was going elsewhere.

This could be the story that blows Di Marzio's credibility with United fans.

When he speaks then that means it is done.Di Marizio has been hit and miss so I don't think we should take his article seriously.
When's he missed? Genuine question, I'd like to know which stories he's written that turned out wrong.

all he's said is that it's advanced and there has been a bid. If Monaco refuse to sell for X reason, we can't blame Di Marzio. The biggest test for Di Marzio is if Mohamed Bouhafsi reject the story as being false. Then we can question Di Marzio.

the only time he "missed" was when Gomes signed for Barca. IIRC, I think he said he was closer to another club but barca were interested. That's the worst Di Marzio has been

Other than that, i've never known a Di Marzio story, specially one confirming a bid, to be wrong.

Thanks.

Di Marzio wrote earlier that Griezmann was third priority for United and Morata was top priority. I among with others denied the news but in the end that turned out to be correct. I think for United he has been spot on more often than not in the past two years.

Is he all that? I haven't paid much attention to him last season.. watched a couple of YT vids and he looks a bit awkward.

Happy, and excited, to be proven wrong!!

Been thinking for a while that the club might release links to players as trial balloons and gauge fan feedback. Maybe they were horrified at the Dier and Matic feedback and saw the hoorah in response to their brief about Fabinho and changed their minds accordingly. An element of democratic transfers through the power of fan lobbying via social media?

Lets hope we can influence the Dembele and Rooney transfers too.

Really hope there's some truth in this. Far better player than Bakayoko or Matic imo

Would be a brilliant signing. He's also good at RB should Valencia need resting/ gets injured, sign him up.

I think he reported Falcao to City the summer we ended up signing him. There are probably a handful of others too because no journalist is infallible but Di Marzio does seem to be well sourced and more careful than other journalists when reporting on and committing to certain transfers.

I don't think you'd ever catch him doing what Sky did with Lewandowski and Aubameyang last week, anyway.

I wonder if Mourinho sees Fabinho as a RB rather than a CDM and we're still looking to buy Matic.

I think the RB reporting was down to Juve looking at him as a RB, yet they have stopped looking because we are well advanced in talks.

From there Di Marzio and co are only reporting we are in talks and submitted a bid, nothing about him being a RB for MUFC

Ain't this how we ended up with Schneiderlin. Maybe they shouldn't listen to us.

Unlikely. The Matic reports sound fabricated and Valencia was a mainstay for Mourinho last season.

No journalist can ever be 100% correct because of the nature of the business. Clubs work on multiple targets and even if player X is correctly reported as being a target, many things can lead to player Y being signed instead. What one really looks for is credibility in terms of what a journalist reports and whether he's a serial "I'll cover all bases" bullshitter or someone who latches onto every other rumour which could be true or someone like Di Marzio who's selective in what he gives his backing to and whether they genuinely seem true at the time.

IMO, the matic reporting was probably down to journos getting their hands on the Europa transfer list (easy transfers that add to squad depth). A list no longer needed.

I think Fabinho was always on the CL list, we are only hearing about this now because its "well advanced".

No, I think it's just because it's an easy transfer to report with the Mourinho connection, like Willian last summer. We're not talking about proper journalists here, it was MEN and The Sun reporting it. Most people with their heads screwed on could see through the Matic links.

Because we don't play 4-4-2 and Herrera would start over him in a 4-2-3-1, leaving him the DM role in a 4-3-3 role.

I am not 100% that he would. We will play so many games next season that we'll rotate the squad. In the big CL games and games against the top 6 I agree we'll go 433, but against lesser sides I think you'll see one of Herrera/Fabinho partnering Pogba.
