FA Premier League - 25/02/25 to 27/02/25

Who decided to have these 7:30 fixtures at the same time? Forest/Arsenal, Spurs/City, United/Ipswich & Brentford/Everton are all watchable games. Then Liverpool Newcastle runs over some of that too.
TNT ?

Liverpool only need 20 points from 10 games to get it done. They opened the door for Arsenal to make it competitive a couple of weeks ago but Arsenal slammed it closed again (admittedly with some horrid injuries at the wrong time)

League was done back in November when City completely collapsed.

Standard in the league is at an all-time low.
I said so last season on here when a much regressed City clawed back the title relatively easily. We are beyond shit now and will still probably get 4th or 5th all though we deserve around 10th.

It might sound arrogant but I stand by it. Arsenal under Arteta has been an awful title-challenger and Liverpool had very little improving to do win a comfortable title. Still credit to Liverpool though, they have been good and current-Salah would have kept them in most title-races over the last decade

They are ravaged by injuries but also verrrrry hard to feel sorry for them because they knew all along and didn’t even properly try to address it in January.

I wouldn't rule out you ending up 2nd place, if Arsenal keeps creating so little, and they have a tougher schedule.

That would be kinda funny.

I'd be surprised if we win two in a row for the rest of the season to be fair. A select few players need to do a lot of heavy lifting if so. Like against Newcastle and the first-half today

You still finished with a decent points total.

Fact is the league has reset. 90+ isn't really needed to win the title and Liverpool can breathe a sigh of relief.

Wouldn't be surprised if City finish second and win the league next season. Arsenal are too reliant on Saka and probably need to go back to the system they had two seasons ago.

I obviously loathe them but watching Liverpool compared to what we produce is unbelievable.

They’re sharp, fast, good touches, working for each other, hungry.

A world away from us. Depressing to see but they play some good stuff.

21 points from our next 10 games guarantees it now. It's basically over though at this point.

Hence why I think the quality of the league has dipped a lot in the last 3 years.

You could argue only Liverpool and City has got worse, and the rest is better but I just don't think so.

It has become a lot more physical and competetive again though

Newcastle aren't beating Liverpool in Carabao Cup Final. They were in best form back when they beat Arsenal 2-0 at Emirates I think.

Even that they were compact in defence but Arsenal couldn't finish for toffee.

They need Isak fit if they want to win that final. Otherwise Liverpool will smother them in midfield and Salah will make them pay.

We're officially out of the title race after tonights win for Liverpool.

I think we took 18 points from our final 30 available last season.
I believe that would put us on 85 and Arsenal on 87 if they win out yeah. But if one of those 18 comes against them we’d still win it.

Would be the greatest feck up in PL history if we throw it away from here, but don’t think we will. Low 80s might even be enough this season. And I believe our only PL game in March is at home against Soton.

We also looked much more comfortable against City and Newcastle again than in the weeks prior to those games, so that’s a bonus.

Arsenal finishing 4th in a 2 horse race would be incredible tbf.
They'll finish 2nd but what 2 horse race? Liverpool won the league in December ffs

There's been a 90+* points league winner since 16/17, with the only possible exception being the 20/21 covid season with the super compressed schedule. And even then, chances are City could have got to 90 if they needed to anyways

So on average you probably still need to be a 90+ points team to win the league

Liverpool are currently on pace for 91

*a team on pace for reaching 90+ points at the time they won the title

Lazy narrative that. Had Arsenal won their game against friggin West Ham at home, and we had dropped points at the Eithad, they would've had the title in their own hands going into March. The perception that it's been over since before New Year is completely wrong.

So, what was most likely to happen back in December when you opened the gap to 10 points - liverpool continuing to be as good as they'd been and Arsenal not starting to win games at a 100+ points rate - happened, and here we are

Leicester go to Chelsea next and Ipswich to Palace so probably both teams will remain at 17 points. Hard to see these teams even get to 30 points until the end of the season.

Current bottom three with 11 games to play.

Ipswich 17 points
Leicester 17 points
Southampton 9 points

The bottom three last season after 38 games

Luton 26
Burnley 24
Sheffield United 16

Not a chance.

The bottom three are nailed on relegation.

Will be interesting to see Southampton's points tally in the end. They're on 9 currently with 11 games to go. Derby County finished on 11 points in 07/08. Southampton should get another 3 points (either with a win or 3 draws) and at least make it a better finish than Derby County's back then.

It was very likely in December that Liverpool would win it, but Robin is right that your narrative is lazy, the league was properly won for Liv last weekend with that swing.
