F1 2024 Season

Getting back to the cars - because frankly I couldn’t give a feck what Horner and his little dick gets up to - FP2 was much more interesting than I expected it to be. Especially as FP2 is the only practice session which mimics race conditions; so probably the only good indicator of where everyone is at for the race.

Mercedes look really, really good in single lap speed, and it’s brilliant to see Lewis Hamilton driving like he has confidence in the car again. The battle between Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren is going to be fantastic this season I think.

Sadly I see nothing else but a boring procession to the title again for that rancid Red Bull team. Their long lap times are a lot better than anyone else, and they definitely had power turned down a little bit, so there’s still more to give. I expect Ferrari ran on reduced power too, but not enough for them to seriously challenge.

The battle for places 2 through 6 is where all the fun and intrigue is going to be had this season, and that’s before we even factor in Alonso and AM. It’ll be much better than last season. The only competitor Red Bull are racing against, is reliability.

Yes I think that’s a fair analysis where things stand. It might not be +20 wins for RB again, but they’re still miles ahead of the rest. I expect Hamilton will win a few races if he indeed has a car he likes the feel off, but Max will be out there in the distance in terms of the driver championship.

The venn diagram of people who had access to these files, and people who could pull up all the email addresses of every journalist and executive and team CEO in formula 1, must be vanishingly small.

Potentially, but at the same time someone with the files but not the emails could just consult literally any F1 journalist and be sorted within minutes

This messages thing is nuts, I have a few lady mates and some of the messages they get are ridickulous, we're not talking like young man here - married men

If society went after all people sending dodgy text or whatever their'd be lots of people and marriages in sh*t.

I've not seen them, but unless they are not like "pay rise baby, come round, fired" then it's freaking personal.

Imagine all your personal messages being looked over by the world or even your partners ex dropping all the messages on X?

Haha same! I think we'll know more about what's going to happen come FP3 and once the Quali is done - I'm not a fan of any team (If I were to pick it would be Ferrari from early Schumacher days), but an admirer of what Red Bull have been doing these past few years - That RB20 looks pretty darn reliable. Would love some competition especially from a historic team like McLaren, but I wouldn't be surprised if this season is a repeat of the last - The bulls may have even fixed their slow corner shortcomings with their RB20, and might even do better than last year. I suspect it will be either in 2025 when most of the performance out of the current iteration is extracted, or '26 with the rule changes, where it starts to get a bit more unpredictable.

Ferrari and McLaren have it tight for P2, and I think Merc also have a better starting point than last year so it will be interesting to see what they do, and I hope this group closes the gap to RB as the season wears on.

I disagree. Horner is in a position of power and he shouldn't be flirting and sexting lesser employees.

what if he was single and they were the ones that initiated the sexitin... should he call HR and report employees

He's married, so your point is moot. He's also the head of the company, so there's a certain level of standards and professionalism he needs to uphold in his position.

This is going to be a very close qualifying session though TBF qualifying was brilliant last year as well.

Alonso looking like he means business in the Aston though as usual he will probably mess his Q3 run.

.

I've really struggled with my prediction and tried to cover any of the top teams doing well

Really tempted to put Charles on pole but gone with Max, because he's usually able to salvage something. Mercedes look a potential threat but not quite enough for me to put them on the podium until I see more of them

As always, what to do with Perez

Does anyone do the official F1 fantasy

My crap hot take is that Ferrari has done Sainz dirty, and I hope he shows that he is a better driver than Chuck Leclerc this year.

I've just tried the official F1 fantasy but finding it impossible to select a full team for the cost cap?

FP3s fastest time is still about a full second behind Max' pole last year and I expect one of these cars to beat that time. In other words, FP has given us very little.

I seriously doubt Ferrari are anything special this year, that car still moves around a lot in comparision with Red Bull that is really calm in corners.

Hard to say who will finish first in this session but if I was a betting man I would say Horner on a WhatsApp video call.

Who's everyone put on pole in their predictions?

I went for Max, very tempted to put Charles though

Now to try and get home from work in time to at least watch some of it, if agent Sargent could cause a red flag and damage a barrier that takes over half an hour to repair, would be much appreciated

Stupid timing :o

Had to be Max but Iam not convinced he will be, was tempted to put Hamilton

How long do we think it'll be til Ferrari and Charles let me down and ruin all my false hopes? I'm betting tomorrow.

Merc pace disappeared when it was needed then, looks like they probably raised the car and lost performance (even though its still sparking on the new skid blocks).

Track temps are making a huge difference, it's 10 degrees lower than usual for quality today.
