F1 2023 Season

Alonso must fancy his chances tomorrow, starts have been Verstappen's only (very minor) weakness this season.

I keep hare about rain, Leclerc mentioned it, there is only a 20% chance.
SUNDAY, MAY 28 – RACE WEATHER

Maximum temperature expected: 25 Celsius
Minimum temperature expected: 17 Celsius

I am not Max's biggest fan, but fir play to him that was a monster lap to grab Pole.
Agreed. In any other car than that RB, he would have been in the wall. The way that car sticks to the track is just incredible.

Such a shame for alonso, hopefully he can put max under pressure tomorrow.

It wasn’t a perfect lap by Max, but it was a monster final sector. Must have taken four tenths from everyone else?

I’d love to see Max’s start finish speed trap speed, as I think we were allowed another glimpse of the RB with DRS and the engine mode on full.

Nowt to do with the start finish straight or DRS. It's the fast chicanes and traction out of the last two corners.

How do you know that? Did they do a side by side where Max was behind and then ahead before the DRS zone?

This interesting, hamilton quoted as going against team advise for Q3 and changing the setup so it was more orientated for the race rather than qually.

Whatever the change was it switched the car from being faster in S1 and S3, to making it faster in S2 for the race instead.

Why? The only reason i can think of is that he wants to be quicker in S2 coming out of the tunnel, towards the bus stop chicane.

So everyone finally gets to see Red Bull's floor, which means we can see others catching up next year?

Leclerc 3 place penalty. Impeding Norris in the tunnel. Ferrari really seem to have problems informing their drivers what is happening out there.

Monaco baby

Better than anything this season, just incredible hot lapping. Max did something quite incredible in the last sector and Alonso has been on it knowing where he'd be.

This is why I can accept Monaco, it's just brilliant for testing the drivers which I can appreciate, driving on such a knife edge brushing the barriers at each corner, as a one off in the season. What we don't need is lots of poor additional street circuits.

Say what you want, but the guy is out of this world.
It was a stunning qually lap by max, probably the best of his career. The greats all have one.

Senna 1988. Monaco. Manual gearbox. Beats his teammate Alain Prost in qualifying by 2 seconds. Shame it wasnt caught on camera. Closest we have is an onboard of senna at monaco 1990. Its scary.

Schmacher japan 2000 was probably his greatest qually lap. Beating hakkinen time by 0.009 seconds with the last lap of qually and then going on to win his 3rd world title in that race. But there isnt an on board of that which is a shame.

We have hamilton in singapore 2018, under pressure from the oil burning ferrari bullet, he pulls out in his words "his greatest ever qually lap"

Going further back there are others from other drivers, but they lack onboard footage. We are lucky we get to see onboard footage now.

He gained almost 0,2 in the swimming pool chicane, incredible.

One of the best Q3's in some time, the race will be a bit of a snooze fest tomorrow, but that last 12 minutes was box office.

That's because it pretty much is the race, there's always so much more riding on qualification at Monaco and anywhere else

Agreed. Qually is the highlight of the monaco weekend. Its a wierd one where qually viewing figures are higher than the actual race.

Only race i can think of where they should enforce the usage of all three compounds. At some risk with pitstops and more of a chance of things being mixed up.

It'll be another one stop strategy (the same as every other race this year). Silverstone can't come soon enough for the revised construction from Pirelli.

Fascinating answer from Max on Sky to the standard "There's talk of you leaving after your current contract" type question. Rather than brush it aside with a default answer he basically said he does want to go race in other series such as Le Mans and wants to do it whilst still young enough and in his peak to perform. Pointed out his interest in other series/cars in simulators is an indication that F1 isn't everything to him.

That's nothing new though is it? He's always been fairly straight and consistent on that question, when asked.

Brundle is gold on the grid. Asking Thibaut Courtois if he is rooting for his fellow Spaniards Alonso and Sainz :)

Expect to hear more of this in the future. Mental health awareness will create these all conquering athletes with view points similar to this.
