F1 2023 Season

This was in contention to be the most boring race of the season untill the final 3 laps, those were great with Russell the highlight for me

Hope Norris doesn't become a nearly man.

Don't like Russell so always good to see him stack it.

Excellent by Sainz that. Brilliant win. Great finish by Max, too. Really good finish all things considered and he nearly had Leclerc at the end. If we had a SC as opposed to a VSC then he may have been up there with the front lot.

Poor from Russell though. The pressure made him choke.

A lot of the comments online about this being more exciting just because of RB not being at the top are hilarious. Sainz led the entire race and was hardly ever under real threat until the end, and a lot of the action happened behind it. The same that has happened the rest of the season where we've had a lot of races with more action behind P1 than we did today.

A lot of people, myself included, don't really care about 4th-5th place battles. I care about P1. And today there was quite the battle for that. So it was an excellent race for me.

Sainz should get a cigar on the podium, epic race craft risking being slow and giving Norris DRS.

Alpha Tauri and Williams need to sort out which one will take Lawson and which one will take Daniel next season.

And send Sergeant back to Nascar where he belongs.
Think RB in particular has some tough decisions to make. One might argue that a race like today (despite Max having an amazing recovery) - shows how critical that second seat is. Had Checo taken more pts of those behind him in the WDC up til now , Max wouldn't have another 4 or 5 people still in contention at this stage. Especially if next season the other teams catch up more that should certainly make them pause.

What's funny is that Narris caught the barrier too.

He may have led the race but he wasn’t a minute in front making jokes about having practice pit stops

Wow what a GP. Best in years. This is what F1 should be like. Genius drive from Sainz, channellimg his inner Alain Prost.

Russell was very unlucky, deserved a podium.

More races like this please F1.

How much leeway does Tsunoda get with AlphaTauri? Lawson scoring points already today brings him to 2 vs. Tsunoda's 3 for the entire. Of course, this is a bit random, but he also outqualified him the third chance he got, with Tsunoda having a lot more experience with the car. He hasn't really delivered much since his first season.

It will be super interesting to see how Red Bull and AlphaTauri line up at the beginning of next season. Perez must also be hanging by a thread, and Lawson gives them some options. I imagine they want a bit more experience in the 2nd Red Bull seat, though. Could they tempt Albon back? He's been driving great with Williams lately.

Also got to say Lawson deserves a seat in F1 next season. much better than tsunoda and shown it in 3 races. Hopefully hes in the seat for Japan.

Good recovery drive from Max. Once the tyres were up to temp, the issues seemed to be managable.

You must be joking  How many overtakes did you see to call this best in years?

Yeah bar the last 5-10 laps where the intrigue made it exciting, the race was largely dull as F. I particularly dislike races where it’s sufficiently hard to overtake that you can drive 3 seconds slower than delta and manage your tyres

Lawson has done exceedingly well however Tsunoda has had terrible luck in all 3 races since Lawson has been paired with him tbf. AT messed up his race in Zandvoort with their strategy to wait for the rain, should have easily scored there and then in the last 2 races has had DNFs which weren't really down to him. Think Tsunoda and Lawson are a very good partnership

In fairness to Tsunoda he was on course to do very well in this race but had his qualifying hampered.

Its about challeneging for P1. We had a thriller. 3 different manufactuers within a second or two for most of the race. Not every race has to be about the most overtaking, its circuit dependant. That was a cerebral, slow burner of a GP that paid off towards the last 20 or so laps.

I havent had that adreneline buzz, nail biter feeling from F1 GP in a long time

Rather have that everytime than max driving 30 seconds off into the distance in P1 after 10 laps.

But doesnt suprise me Max/RB fans didnt enjoy it.

Question is do you need a experienced benchmark driver lile danny ric to help develop the car? Or do you go with lawson and tsunoda? Id also go with the latter.

Theres a rumour that as patt of the AM / Honda deal for 2026, Honda get to put a driver in the other seat, so tsunoda could find himself at AM in 2026.

Looks like something was stuck under Alonso's car most of the race or broke suspension arm housing.

Hell of a drive by Sainz, genius to make sure Lando always had DRS.

Crazy Max did that good with all the safety cars being so poorly timed.

On another day he had the pace to fight for the win. For a shit weekend by the team Max really salvaged it way more than could be expected

Virtual Safety Car kind of saved Red Bull from the worst.

Lando on why he didnt attack Sainz. When is the last time in F1, where two drivers from two different teams worked together to secure the 1-2 finish? im struggling to think of one.

"Amazing. Great race. No overtaking on track but perfect strategy. A great pit stop from my guys to get ahead of Charles and a good strategy," said Norris.

"Both Mercedes boxed and I thought it was a guarantee that they would get back past me, but I managed to hold them off. Carlos helped me achieve that. We worked together pretty well to help one another. If I got overtaken, he would have done.

"I had to play it tactical. If I attacked Carlos, I probably wouldn't have finished on the podium. I had to play it smart, and Carlos played it smart. He was clever with it all, so congrats to him."

In what way?

They didn't pit under VSC. It didn't help them at all really as It keeps the gaps the same give or take.

Max over the entire race lost like 28 seconds due to the Saftey cars not going his way.

But that's F1 sometimes shit happens

Those last 18 laps or whatever it was after the Merc's pitted for mediums were fantastic, looked like they had a pretty decent chance of getting a 1-2 but Sainz and Norris drove so well there at the end.

Really happy for Sainz, he truly deserved that top spot.
