F1 2023 Season

Would love to see Lando get a podium!

Least the mercedes/Ferrari/McLaren/Aston Martin battle will be exciting, especially if Albon gets in the mix too

What's happened to AM?!

Looks like McLaren have leapforgged Mercedes now. They look very very good

Mika Hakkinen was right  McLaren are gonna challenge Red Bull for the 2nd part of the season

I doubt it but it would be golden if it actually happens. Zakk brown pogo bouncing his whole pit crew after they snatch a win would be really memorable

Mistake at the exit of turn 7, lost a couple of tenths but realistically today P8 was the maximum. Seems like still optimizing the upgrades.

Be really interesting to see what McLaren race pace is like. But it seemed very competitive (albeit not with Red Bull) in Austria. I think RB will still generally be several tenths ahead of all others for the rest of the season, but the 4 way battle behind them between Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin and McLaren will be very entertaining I think.

Shout out to Piastri though. Obviously Norris has done a great job too, but Piastri, as a rookie and first weekend with the upgrades, has done a brilliant job to get that car behind Norris and ahead of everyone else.

Lovely stuff from McLaren. Am a bit of a Norris fan so while I'd prefer to see him at Red Bull with Max this is great to see

Love seeing Norris up there! Big fan of Lando.

Verstappen is just an animal. Give everyone a bit of a chance, then snatch it away!

Even as a Max fan would have loved to see Lando get the pole.

Fair play to McLaren. Serious upgrades

* Any top driver in that Red Bull is unbeatable

Kinda. I do think Hamilton, Alonso, Leclerc, Russel, Norris and Sainz would still probably win the title in it but Verstappen is on a level above everyone else in the sport currently which is hard to say as a Hammy fan.

I really hope so. Big fan of Lando, and it's nice to see a rookie in Piastri doing well. McLaren's two drivers are also way more likable than the Merc lot.

Maybe we should do a poll on whether Perez is still at Red Bull after this season. Personally I hope not. Not getting to Q3 five times in a row in a car this good is just criminal.

Norris looked fast in Austrian sprint too, Norris was all over Leclerc for 20 or so laps, so I am not surprised. But Piastri's position is impressive, well done to him.

Aston Martin has fallen a lot in just few races.

Piastri had old car specs in Austria, only Norris had the upgraded version. So it's the first race for Piasrti to use the new and better car.

Charles wants out, would be simply lovely if he somehow ends up in the other RB
Think the question will be is whether Ferrari thinks Charles should be retained at all costs or whether they ll cave to the on going pressures of the Sainz camp. Plenty of stories about his folks having burned the RB bridges before and playing politics, and it appears the rumor they've been doing the same at Ferrari aren't going away. Charles being sarcastic about Carlos today and Carlos doing the same in the other direction before seemingly only add fuel to that fire.

Not had a chance to follow last few weekends - are McLaren high up based on track suitability or genuine pace upgrades?

Upgrades but potentially both. Hungary will be interesting. If they are still up there on that track then these upgrades have made them absolutely brilliant.

Can only hope. Have no time for Norris but always had a soft spot for McLaren.

I was more about how Piastri didn't look anything special this year in general, so this is positive result even if he had the best car on the grid.

Wow, mclaren. Damn. Norris cars at 75% upgraded and piastri at 50% upgraxed. Last part of upgrades to come at hungary. Sensational performancd. That was a great qually session.

I'm still not over how bad Checo has been the last many races. His performances have been horrendous. Especially in qualifying.
Honestly. what's keeping Red Bull from giving the seat to Ricciardo for the rest of the season?

As a McLaren fan this is the best I’ve felt since Monza 21 but that felt more track specific and circumstantial than the leap forward in pace this weekend.

It’ll probably transpire to be midfield pace vs the Alpines for the rest of the season but it gives me hope that they’re moving in the right direction for the first time in a while. Hopefully the new technical recruits and wind tunnel being completed in the next couple of years will pay dividends.

Rumor is they tested him on the simulator and he was actually worse.

Just watched qualifying again.
Forget Max 5th pole was always on, even if for a second I thought it was Norris.
The McLaren upgrades are working better than anybody thought they would.
Piastri did not look anything special, did nothing in FP, Norris the same but the pair nailed it.

The car at silverstone minus the upcoming upgrades at hungury is the car mclaren wanted to start the season with. Also their car designer is ex-redbull from newey's team. If anyone would be able to copy the RB it would be him. Forgot his name.

Ferrari engine reliability seems to be a concern as both Haas and Alfa Romeo had engine issues.

Rob Marshall - he’s the McLaren new technical director of engineering and design.
