F1 2022 Season

le clerc just chucked in fastest lap i think

merc in 9th and 15th ... only FP1 but certainly not looking like chainsawing the spoiler has made a huge difference
Yeah did , on a new set of softs, but not much faster, will be interesting to see what Max does on a new set.
The chainsaw to the wing has not helped Mercedes by the looks of it.

Red Bull and Alpha Tauri look rapid in a straight line. I'm inclined to believe that the Honda engine might be the most powerful on the grid.

Mercedes on the other hand, I think not enough has been made of the engine. Yes the porpoising is an issue, but it's also the case for other teams. I don't believe it's a coincidence that the teams struggling are Mercedes customers. I think the engine is much weaker this year but I doubt any team will admit that at this stage.

I actually think it's the Ferrari. Top speed isn't just affected by engine

There have been a lot of rumours that Mercedes are struggling to adapt the engine to the new fuel for this season. Pretty stark when they were more or less a minute off Ferrari and Red Bull and the bottom 6 teams were all Mercedes powered in Bahrain.

There’s reportedly been a ballistic missile attack 11km from the race track and you can see the smoke as they drive around - target was an Aramco depot who sponsor this race…There was a similar attack last week I think.

I think maybe portions of the media haven't come to terms with the idea that Mercedes may not be in a title fight this year. Seen a lot suggesting they develop the car back into contention.

Totto Wolff thinks the engine is as good as the rivals. The porposing and the sacrifices being made to deal with it are making cars running that engine look slower.

There is definitely something up with the engine this year as you would think at least 1 of the teams running it would look decent, is it possible that the tighter design of the engine is at cause for the porposing as the weight distribution is a bit fecked

I think this is more the problem, the new fuel should not be a problem to them.
Aero is the problem , porpoising needs to be sorted, get that right and they will be challenging I think.

Lewis Hamilton says all the right things, but of course he doesn’t do the right things. Hypocrite? To a certain degree, but we’ve seen it all before. Speaks about human rights and his responsibility, his ability to meet with officials if need be, like they would have any interest in meeting him anyway. Probably a bit more important stuff going on than meeting a noisy and self-obsessed race car-driver.

If you want to make a statement, stay at home and boycott the event entirely, don’t show up like you’re on the fecking catwalk and speak semi-ill of the regime once you’re safely in the paddock. Again, lots of words (from a guy driving a car) but absolutely no action. He thought more about that outfit than human rights before hopping on the jet to the Saudis that’s for sure.
You're kidding, right? Hamilton is the most outspoken of all F1 drivers (ahead of Vettel) on various issues, including racism/diversity, climate change, animal rights, and more. Being outspoken is already a pretty useful thing for people with a big public profile, and he marries that with personal action, like donations, various activities for charities, being a vegan, and so on. I would also rather see Hamilton in Jeddah with his little protests (like the helmet colours), than him at home and a replacement driver in the car who'll keep quiet.

If you want to criticize people, let's start with those that do absolutely nothing rather, shall we?

Nice post.

I’ll generally enjoy any opportunity to talk shit about Lewis Hamilton but this is a really odd take.

Interesting watching the sky f1 coverage saying its a fire and they have to wait for confirmation etc. If a missile attack went off 16km from the barcelona track or another this would be all over the news.

From Sky.

Domenicali briefs drivers on fire
We've had confirmation that the meeting saw F1 president Stefano Domenicali brief drivers and team principals on the situation regarding the nearby fire.
Some journalists in the paddock are reporting that several drivers have been left unsure over continuing with the race weekend.
It remains to be seen if they will all take to the track for P2, which gets underway in a little under 10 minutes.

Sky Sports are reporting a drivers meeting and FP2 delayed by 15 mins, I am reading on twitter ( ok I know) that the FIA are considering pulling the race.
Any real truth in this or just twitter bullshit ?
If they do cancel the race, I can see it happening at the 11th hour.

They should. It's not like it's an accidental rocket going off course from a training exercise, it's an act of war and it's within eye sight of the track. Shouldn't have gone there in the first place and shouldn't go back before a whole lot of things changes.

I agree.
The fire is 12 miles from the track, the fire must be massive to see that mount of smoke.
Safety must come first, must admit if I was there , I would be looking for the first flight out.

The porpoising on the Mercedes is awful. How can Hamilton and Russell even see the breaking point when the car is bouncing like that?
