F1 2020 Season

So more of the same this year then in terms of results. Guess we can always hope the DAS system isn't as reliable or something.

Hope Lewis gets number 7 this year. Amazing driver, one of the best of all time. A British sportsman to be proud of.

Hope he wins this year, then moves to Ferrari next year and brings them back to the top.

We might need Santi back to make this season interesting

Any idea if Merc continued to use the steering system?

It's within the rules this year so fine for them to carry on. Next year they've amended the wording regarding the steering so it won't be allowed.

Formula One bosses sent a private briefing note to the teams on Friday that insisted the first three races of the new season remain defiantly on despite the spread of coronavirus.

However, with global panic rising as stock markets plummeted, F1’s update outlined an extravagant screening protocol in Bahrain for Ferrari and AlphaTauri (formerly Toro Rosso) staff, given the 400 cases, including 12 deaths, close to their factories in northern Italy.
The note sent by F1’s owners, Liberty Media, said: ‘Those travelling (to Bahrain) from Italy will be subject to travel restrictions.

'On arrival those individuals will be met from their flights by a dedicated team who will escort them to a specifically created lounge, where a team of doctors will test for the virus in a process that takes approximately three hours.’

Authorities in Melbourne will also screen those coming from affected countries. The update on Vietnam, which boarders China, was positive, with F1 noting there had been no new cases in the country for 10 days.

F1 said they would continue to monitor the situation, but confirmed: ‘Based on current expert and national government positions we will be heading to Melbourne as scheduled and the season will continue as planned, other than for the China postponement.’

Its bullshit and indicative of the power Ferrari hold over F1

What they did should be known to all, sport should be transparent

There have been suspicions over their ERS system for a few seasons with GPS traces showing they are somehow able to deploy electrical energy for much longer than everyone else on the straights, there have also been suggestions they are buring oil too by vaourising it in the intercooler.

This is not going to go away.

Seven F1 teams have released a strongly-worded joint statement claiming they "strongly object" to the FIA reaching a private settlement with Ferrari regarding their 2019 engine.

Ferrari's power unit from last season was the subject of much speculation due to their straight-line speed, and the FIA announced last week that they had made a settlement with the Italian team after long-running technical investigations.

Details of the agreement were kept private but the governing FIA said both parties had agreed to "a number of technical commitments".

The other F1 teams not powered by Ferrari engines - Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren, Renault, Alpha Tauri, Racing Point and Williams - have now joined forces to say they were "shocked" by that report and want "full and proper disclosure" from the FIA.

The statement reads: "We, the undersigned teams, were surprised and shocked by the FIA's statement of Friday 28 February regarding the conclusion of its investigation into the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 Power Unit.

"An international sporting regulator has the responsibility to act with the highest standards of governance, integrity and transparency.

"After months of investigations that were undertaken by the FIA only following queries raised by other teams, we strongly object to the FIA reaching a confidential settlement agreement with Ferrari to conclude this matter.

"Therefore, we hereby state publicly our shared commitment to pursue full and proper disclosure in this matter, to ensure that our sport treats all competitors fairly and equally. We do so on behalf of the fans, the participants and the stakeholders of Formula One.

"In addition, we reserve our rights to seek legal redress, within the FIA's due process and before the competent courts.

Ferrari are so decisive. I used to really like them.. mainly because they were red, but it's become more and more obvious how many decisions they get in the past few years - which makes Mercedes and Hamiltons dominance even more impressive.

Fascinating how efficient and ruthless they are on the new season.

A podcast I listen to had a guest on (ex Pirelli engineer) who was suggesting that what they were doing is greatly increasing the efficiency of the engine by introducing additives into the cylinders by vaporising oil in the intercooler, and that's why Leclerc was 5kg under declared fuel weight at Abu Dhabi last year, they were underdeclaring their fuel weight to hide the efficiency of the engine but got caught.

It's messy, the FIA tried to sweep it under the carpet but rightly so the other teams are not having it. Bit crap it's overshadowing the new season but some clarity needs giving on it.

Video posted by Dutch drive Tom Coronel (one narrated, and another without narration I didn't link) showing a lap at the redone Zandvoort track in the Netherlands. Looks like they still have a fair amount of finishes to do though:

Appears to be track that could be pretty grueling for the drivers from an edurance perspective because of all the turns - but the banked corners will probably look awesome on TV. As folks also point out in their comments however - it may be a rather dull afair with regards to F1 cars likely having very few opportunities to overtake.

Looks pretty impressive, but agree overtaking looks like it could be difficult and the banks corners will look good on TV, hope the weather is the same for the actual race.

Not yet convinced that the season opener will actually happen.
Questions remain over the Vietnam Grand Prix on 5 April, Vietnam has imposed a 14-day quarantine period on any travelers from Italy who enter the country, a policy that would lead to the cancellation of the Grand Prix if it remains in place.
Bahrain, whose race is on 22 March, a week after the season-opener in Australia, has a similar policy but has eased its restrictions for people working at the Grand Prix, but Bahrain Grand Prix organisers have suspended ticket sales for this month's Formula One race while they assess how many spectators will be allowed to attend.
I can see more races being cancelled, even the season going completely !

The 2020 Bahrain GP will be held without fans in attendance due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

The Grand Prix is set to take place on March 22, a week after next weekend's season-opener in Australia, but with coronavirus cases growing in the Gulf kingdom, Bahrain race organizers say it will only be a televised event.

"In consultation with our international partners and the Kingdom's national health Taskforce, Bahrain has made the decision to hold this year's Bahrain Grand Prix as a participants-only event," a statement read on Sunday.

"As an F1 host nation, balancing the welfare of supporters and race goers is a tremendous responsibility. Given the continued spread of Covid-19 globally, convening a major sporting event, which is open to the public and allows thousands of international travellers and local fans to interact in close proximity would not be the right thing to do at the present time.

"But to ensure that neither the sport, nor its global supporter base, is unduly impacted, the race weekend itself will still go ahead as a televised event."

Been watching the Netflix behind the scenes show and my god Verstappen is a cnut.

Half way thought season 2, I agree.
I like Christian Horner in it, comes over very professional.

Yea he’s come across mostly quite well. I quite like the Haas team principle too. Ricciardo unsurprisingly is also great.

The Renault boss is a bellend.
