F1 2018 Season

Dull race and pretty ominous for the championships. Was hoping Mercedes would have closed the gap over the summer but looks like Ferrari are now even further ahead... Could be in for a 2013-esque end to the season given this should have been one of Merc's more competitive tracks on paper.

Nice to see the new Force India off to a good start, Perez probably a good shout for DOTD.

Looking at this pic , the Halo saved LeClerc, Alonsos car would hand landed square on LeClercs hands.

This season is far from over, unless Merc can find some more speed from their new engine, looking like Seb is going t eat away at Lewis's lead.
Mercedes should have won here, Monza next that should be a Merc track and then Singapore.

If Vettel doesn't win the title it will be a colossal failure on his amd ferrari's part. Clearly the best car

No with Ferrari PU, Monza should also be ferrari track.

10 place grid penalty for Hulkneberg, he admitted that it was his feck up. Bottas got a five second penalty for his crash on lap 1, guessing the fact that he damaged his own front wing meant it wasn't any more. Makes no difference to the result.

Even with Ferrari looking stronger, I think Vettel needs a Hamilton DNF. Hamilton is still going to win some races .

Terrible race. Glad I recorded it and could watch 4x speed.

The way Ferrari is looking , I think Seb is now favourite for the title now, they are faster than the Merc's and the Merc does not handle well in dirty air.
The next 2 races will be interesting, for the past few seasons they have been Merc wins, Ferrari look like they are on course for the first home win since 2010.

My reasoning is that Vettel will not win all the remaining races. Hamilton will win a few imo. So all Hamilton has to do is finish on the podium for the races he does not win (not the hardest of tasks). If he does that, he'll be champion imo. Hockenheim was very crucial imo.
Vettel has no margin for error while Hamilton still does.

Safety cars, rain, first corners and mechanical reliability can all drastically pull things in one direction or the other. Ferrari have the best car but Vettel seems more likely to make critical errors. Hamilton doesn't necessarily need to be perfect as he's always likely to be top 3 even if he's not on it but Merc need to maximise everything strategically. I think Vettel will do it but there's a few more twists and turns to come.

I can see where your coming from and yes Lewis does have a slight advantage, but those 17 points will soon vanish
Equally all Seb has to do is stay ahead of Lewis and he will win the title and at the moment he can do that with ease, I agree Hockenheim was crucial.

Agree with you brother. Lewis will win.

Exactly as you say Armchair, with a critical variation.

Thought this was an interesting read after seeing the sea of orange at Spa:
https://www.crash.net/f1/feature/904148/1/max-factor-how-verstappens-fans-have-changed-f1

One of the things it discusses is the possible return of a F1 race to the Netherlands.

BTW that video showing the halo doing its job is amazing. Little perturbed some of the comments to that video are trying to argue he would ve been fine without the halo. Possibly but it would ve been a game of inches.

I'm always got amazing for the people who still argue about halo just because the looks. I take slighty ugly car for safety upgrade. How can people still argue about driver's safety just for aesthetic looks amaze me.

Resistance to change. No one is arguing now, however.

Some still thou. Its not even up to debate in first place.

Anyway, Hamilton wont get any DNF by himself. Unless its technical failure, he will play it safe. Unless Vettel too, he isnt as same as error prone as Vettel

You'd think that. But on the other hand, Spa was supposed to be a merc track, and Vettel passed Lewis on sheer power. If Ferrari prove the faster car at Monza as well, then Hamilton really will need rain/safety car/mistakes by Seb/Ferrari/serious improvement by Mercedes, basically it would be out of his hands, because Ferrari would be the faster car in every race left.

Hamilton: "Ferrari has found a special trick to win".

Why can't just he accept we are better than them?

Don't see a problem with what he said , said nothing wrong, he was pissed and rightly so , the Merc is not the fastest car and he knows that, I would me more pissed with him if he just accepted it.
You have just taken the word tricks out of context.
Why should be accept Ferrari have the better car, if he does he might has well give up on the title now.

I felt it was casual language.

I think most of the general public in the UK understood what Hamilton meant when he used that word. He even clarified it again for the media. There's even a compliment in there if you look harder. Clearly everyone ran with the 'story' and other people have commented as we all love it when dominance is toppled.

If he said "they have found something special [to get the performance boost]" then nothing would have been made of it but that is pretty much what he said and clearly what they've done. As much as he can be a detestable character to some at least he is coming out to the public, being himself, and saying what he feels.
