I don't. You're allowed one change of trajectory to defend. You can't just shut the door repeatedly, otherwise overtaking would become near impossible. A guy like Max with no rules wouldn't end a race and would ruin races all the time

Why? He's made his move, he's overtaking. Max changes trajectory when he can't and at that point Ricciardo had already began breaking for the turn. 100% Max fault
The rule is more to make overtaking viable, imo. Otherwise a lot of moves would end up like we've just seen.
But there's still room, because it still allows what is the standard defense these days: commit to the inside, as the overtaker commits outside you still get to move back out to both get a better line and reduce the other guy's space.
