Excitement

If Mourinho or Klopp was coming in then yeah id be excited to see what happens. The thought of Moyes coming in and Rooney leaving is probably the most unexcited iv ever been as a United fan.

Meh I think i'll take a few days off from posting anyway, almost everything iv said in the last 24 hours as been doom and gloom, im starting to annoy myself.

Pre season without SAF . Not easy to get excited.

Gill is certain Sir Alex will take an immediate step back, and is unlikely to visit the training ground, in order to give the new manager space to stamp his own personality on his new surroundings without being in the 71-year-old's enormous shadow.

“Alex will give the new manager space,” Gill added. “He certainly won’t go on the pre-season tour [in July].

“It’s like me, I won’t go on the tour, it’s totally wrong. So I’d be very surprised if he [Ferguson] was at Carrington in the early days.”

The only time I feel excited when Fergie is no longer the manager of United, is when I saw my name taking over in FM.

Not excited about Moyes. Which is not to say he's the wrong choice. Just a "safe pair of hands" and very much a known quantity. Seen a having the same kinds of qualities as our last manager, tho inferior to him. Not necessarily expected to take the club in a new direction or try anything new or innovative. Not much to get excited about.

But I'd rather be successful for the next 5-10 seasons than excited now.

Really looking forward to the Moyes brand of football

It's going to be new experience for the younger supporters so I am kind of looking forward to August.

Still not excited. Still down from yesterday. Moyes seems a good manager, but not more and I don't think thats anything to get excited about

I'm excited to be honest.

I expect there to bit a small shakeup in the squad of a few players out and a couple in. The backroom staff will hopefully stay largely the same.

It'll be business as usual.

Fergy will be in the background. He won't interfere with the management but will be there for advice. But he sure of shit won't let his hard work over the past 26 years be undone either.

Don't worry. In Fergie we trust.

You're not the only one who feels like this Castia. I echo those sentiments.

I have to commend some of you for attempting to get excited about Moyes likely appointment, or at least trying to stem some of the doom and gloom surrounding it. I'm struggling with the idea of it personally and have previouslu vehemently refuted it anytime the idea has even floated as an option before. So now that it's looking nailed on it's not easy to just do a complete 180 on the way I felt before.

Apart from stability I don't see any benefit of us hiring David Moyes at all. He doesn't strike me as someone who has a winning mentality like all the best managers do. It oozes out of them and I'm not convinced its a learned behaviour either. Moyes would be totally uninspiring imo.

SAF leaving is a big enough blow, especially for those of us who know nothing else apart from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, but appointing Moyes over someone with a track record of being able to challenge and win things (Klopp, Mourinho etc..) just makes the whole thing more of a concern imo. I think a club like Shalke should be Moyes next logical step. See how he does at a team the next step up from Everton and then he can throw his hat in the ring for a job at arguably the biggest club in the world once he shows he has what it takes to be a winner. SAF was a winner before he came here, why are we deviating from those standards when we're currently more successful now than we were then.

Everton fans don't even see the idea of Moyes leaving as a bad thing. They're excited about Laudrupp after a lot of them aired their grievances over the negative football Everton were playing earlier in the season. Some are even hoping it gets sorted quickly before any discontent from United fans scuppers the deal.

I'll get behind him completely though, and I'm sure the vast majority of our fans will. I'll hope that he proves me completely wrong but I can't feel anything but pessimistic at his impending appointment. It's the safe, sensible, steadying the ship option but not ambitious enough for us I feel.

Is it a case of stability > success? Shouldn't we at least be looking for someone with a decent mixture of those qualities?

It's a case of replacing the greatest there ever was. Whoever comes in is a few steps down, there's nothing exciting about that. The idea of Moyes managing United is a depressing one, ditto Jose, Klopp or any other fecker.

They'd fill me with more optimism than Moyes

The people who want Klopp now are the same who wanted Svennis back in 2002.

I cant help but still feel excited to be honest. Not really about Moyes (to be fair, it's hard to get Moyest over this hiring..), but to see what direction we're taking the club in, to see which players he's bringing in, and how he plans to run the club. We all know that Fergie delegated plenty of his work in his latter years at the club, so it'll be exciting to see how he'll deal with the entire club.

Will he keep things the way it's been for the last few years, or will he try to take on as much as possible? Will the likes of Januzaj get a chance, or will Moyes go for the proven in his first year to make sure he gets the results? I for one is sort of afraid that a new manager will be terrified at the task of taking over for Fergie that he's simply not going to take any risks at all with the team, which will see our youngsters miss out on some opportunities.

Yes but there are levels to disappointment. Moyes is the bottom of it. I'd have personally loved to see the football someone like klopp would have got us to play.

You're not saying what you think you're saying.

As often is the case 'round these here parts, exoticness (is that a word..?) equals excitement. Out of Moyes' 17 seasons in management, 15 have been incredibly solid, and, contrary to popular belief, his sides have played some decent footie. Klopp might be a brilliant manager in the making but his record's much more of a mixed bag.

I'd much rather see what Moyes can do at a competitive club than hand the reigns over to someone who could very well be the Emperor's new.
