Excitement

You could employ Santa Claus and it wouldn't stop this being one of the worst days in my life and the clubs life.

However I'm sure the new manager will be fine. He's got such a great squad, a bit of money and a great helping hand.

Let's get behind him.

It's just sport, not the loss of a family member, you bloody drama queen.

Chill pocco, don't go loco.

Moyes is great at doing well with modest budgets, whilst never actually winning anything. if he could guarantee us passage to the CL every year then the Glazers would be laughing from a financial point of view.

Like I said, let's just see, I probably am completely wrong, but hey, SAF did just retire, and we look set to hire Moyes in his place, so I'm a little annoyed today!

There's no way Moyes is being lined up because he's cheapest, and you know it deep down. We're all gutted today, but for once can we not write someone off before they've even started here? It's happened so many times down the years, you'd think we'd learn.

A success for the Glazer's is a manager that won't cost them much, won't need big transfer budgets and can guarantee a CL spot every season, they don't care about trophies.

United's success (aka winning domestic trophies and being competitive in UCL) directly reflects in United revenue and in stock prices IMO. Which means that they indirectly cares about trophies.

I'm not writing Moyes off, I won't deny that I'll be horribly disappointed if he's our manager next year though, especially as up until 9am this morning I thought SAF still would be.

It was a very unique signing for us though. They could have easily said "sorry he's too expensive and we can't afford his wages". Wouldn't have been the first time we couldn't afford a player.
Ferguson has said repeatedly that the Glazers have been excellent in supporting him with any purchase he has asked for - are we to believe that he was lying, or that the Glazers were only so supportive because it was him?

Be logical about this. Everyone is going to want to do what is best for the club. Intentionally allowing the quality of the team to reduce is definitely NOT what is best for this club.

No Trophies
No CL Group Stage experience
No Experience Handling Big Budgets / Signings
No Experience Managing world class players / big egos
Terrible Away record against big teams
No Experience at a top level club

He's a nice guy but this is the biggest Job in football. If he's the best we can get then it's a sad day for our club.
He isn't 'the best we can get' though is he? We could attract almost every manager in the world. If we hire Moyes its because the club believe that he is the best man for the job, not because nobody better is interested.

It's had a massive impact on everybody, I reckon there's a lot of people feeling the same. Twigginator is probably one of the only ones that hasn't lost his shit today.

Oh, some people will be distraught today. No doubt. If they want to get that emotionally involved in the whole thing then fine, have at it.

I just don't feel any sadness seeing Ferguson leave, that's all. I'm surprised and disappointed, but not sad. He's had an incredibly successful, lucrative career with us & Aberdeen and from the outside it seems as if he's enjoyed every second of it. He's great at what he did and gave us all a lot of enjoyment, but it's good to have a fresh start. It should be a celebration.

It's new and exciting.

Bullshit John.

We're Man United and not Arsenal.

And Fergie was a dynamic colourful character when he came to United.

Manchester United was a very different club when SAF took over for one, and he came to United, having broken the Old Firm in Scotland. Moyes in this case would be arriving to arguably the biggest club in the world having won the 2nd division with Preston NE and nothing else.

It's kind of hard to feel excited about that with the news we've just recieved.

He might turn out to be an amazing manager for United and become "the next Sir Alex", but right now I'm not really feeling that.

I just want this to be a bad dream.

Exactly, something some people fail to grasp.

Yeah John, stop talking shit!

Obviously your inferior mind didn't understood my joke. I called you John as your username is Cina thus making you...wait for it...John Cina. Geddit?

I got your joke Karen, I just refuse to acknowledge such derogatory name calling, is all.

It is a little different being a miserable git who has beaten Real Madrid in a European final with a minnow such as Aberdeen. Moyes is not bringing much to the table by way of success.

We need Hectic for a name change here again.

Don't you dare.

(He already named me John Cina before, it was his first one)

Yeah yeah, I remember it. Together with The Chinese Information National Agency and some other usernames. It would be funny if he does it again ;)

Stay on topic, damnit.

At the moment I am feeling more excited about the idea of seeing Cina having another username nightmare, than the idea of seeing United playing under Moyes.

Today is a day to honor Fergie and not to lament the fact that whoever his successor may be, he won't have the CV of Fergie himself.

We have to get a grip on ourselves.

Yeah alright, alright, I have an extremely pun-able name, as I'm well aware of by now. Get back on topic and be excited about the shittest day in recent memory of this club.

Which is why I'm making sure this thread doesnt drift off into another General-thread.

Is it only negative feelings about Moyes taking charge then? Yes, I agree that it's perhaps the most boring choice we could make, but still.. Am I the only one looking forward to seeing what a new manager can do with our current squad? Most of us have said that we think that our current set of players should play more attractive football then we've been doing lately, so is there any chance of this?

Of course, under a manager who actually plays good football.

There would be an inkling of excitement if we hired Jose, or Pep or Klopp.
If we take on Moyes there will be nothing of the sort.
Sure, we might end up playing scintillating football and bring in some big players but it's unlikely isn't it?

Maybe it's a case of Moyes playing the type of football that his players allow him to? We dont got anyone like Fellaini and Anichebe (thank God), so maybe the hoofball-football will be dropped and he'll actually try to play some decent attacking football?

When I heard the rumours about Sir Alex retiring - worry
When the rumours are confirmed this morning - sadness
When Moyes becomes the most likely replacement - devastation

So no, not excited at all... :(

That might very well be the case.

No matter what we can't do anything but wait and hope for the best and if he is Fergies candidate as well I have a feeling that he will be right choice in the long run.

Well said. People seem to think that predicting a massive post-Fergie decline is a complement to him, but it isn't - it just shows that many don't really appreciate what he's done with this club. He has given United a strength, stability and longevity which doesn't rely on him being there. I think if the club went tits up next season, Fergie would see that as his failure, not his replacement's.

On top of that, I think the time has actually come for new blood in terms of our style of football and attitude on the pitch. We've lost a bit of our excitement and energy, and have just 'done enough' too much over the last couple of seasons. I'm excited to see a new man turn that trend around. So please not David bloody Moyes

How? Because other people fecked up? It doesn't matter if you leave an organisation in good standing, it doesn't take much for those remaining to mess it all up. I can't put much of that on SAF. He's done his hard work and laid the foundations for some time. However, it's up to others to maintain that stability and build on it. I doubt he would see it as his fault. He's being harsh to himself.

Maybe we should cheer ourselves up by starting a 'Quadruple 2013/2014' thread.

Because at the moment... IT'S ON!

I feel the same.

Excitement? SAF has just retired how can any true United fan feel excited right now?

Because as a United fans we take the past and embrace it in our future. Sir Alex has built a club that has taken the philosophies of Sir Matt and matured it into a massive culture that is seen by fans world wide. His legacy will be the greatest gift he's ever given to the club and something that I feel will keep United at the top of the football food chain.

Sir Matt was an institution, but Sir Alex built an institution. That's why i'm excited
