It's a terrible day for Manchester United-supporters everywhere, and I've been stuck infront of the computer ever since waking up hoping that all of this is a prank. What the man has done for this club is hard to say in words, and I'm sure we're all eternally grateful for what he's done for us and what he'll continue to do.

However, I cant help but feel a little excited about this. Moreso if Jose is the man taking us forward, but Fergie has been in charge for all my life and I've never experienced a United without Sir Alex. Though we have no idea how life without Fergie will develope, I'm looking forward to a new chapter in the clubs history. What will change? What will remain the same? We're going into a new era where everyone else expects us to decline, but lets all stand together and show the world that Sir Alex Ferguson has built a club that will remain throughout the ages, rather than die down.

Ferguson and Sir Bobby will keep a watch over the club as we go into a new age. Lets make the best of it, shall we?

Any of the ridiculously low levels of excitement that I had have quickly diminished with the increasing likelihood of Moyes becoming manager.

You could employ Santa Claus and it wouldn't stop this being one of the worst days in my life and the clubs life.

However I'm sure the new manager will be fine. He's got such a great squad, a bit of money and a great helping hand.

Let's get behind him.

Of course I will support any appointment, but Moyes is dour in every sense of the word.

Ahh the hypocrisy, from "Fergie always gets the selection/tactics wrong" and "he's in denial about our midfield" to "we will be shit"? We would still be favourites for the title next season and we will probably play better than we did this year, which involved a lot of poor performances.

First I was very sad. Niw with Moyes beeing the one who looks very likely to succeed fergie I'm also disappointed. Not excited at all.

A big signing or two and you'll all be excited again.

Well said. People seem to think that predicting a massive post-Fergie decline is a complement to him, but it isn't - it just shows that many don't really appreciate what he's done with this club. He has given United a strength, stability and longevity which doesn't rely on him being there. I think if the club went tits up next season, Fergie would see that as his failure, not his replacement's.

On top of that, I think the time has actually come for new blood in terms of our style of football and attitude on the pitch. We've lost a bit of our excitement and energy, and have just 'done enough' too much over the last couple of seasons. I'm excited to see a new man turn that trend around. So please not David bloody Moyes

Well Santa Claus is a shit manager anyway. He got Lapland FC relegated last year.

It's very hard to have any excitement over who our new manager will be when you think that he's going to be in the dugout instead of Sir Alex. There's nothing that can make that feeling any better.

I have no excitement. Moyes will bore us to death next season.

I'm excited, I cant help but think things have started to stagnate recently and we've been adopting a win at all cost tactic which hasnt been very pretty. I feel a new man can come in and tweak a few things (play midfielders in midfield) and we should keep on winning.

That doesn't really address your issue though does it.

I must say that my initial reaction did contain a large degree of excitement, but I am in the group who has had any excitement sucked out by the seeming inevitability of Moyes' appointment.

Your white text is about as true as it gets.

People not being excited by Moyes potential appointment is not to say they wouldn't rejoice in his success.

I would be behind Moyes 100% if he is appointed, but his appointment won't scream "come join the new era at United" to prospective players the same way Pep, Mourinho, Klopp would.

And Fergie was a dynamic colourful character when he came to United.

Indeed he was.

Here is is live on TV, seconds after Aberdeen (Aberdeen!) beat Rangers (Rangers!) to win the 1983 Scottish Cup Final (Cup Final!):

We're the luckiest team in the world. We were a disgrace of a performance. Miller and McLeish won the cup for Aberdeen. Miller and McLeish played Rangers themselves. They were a disgrace of a performance. And I'm not caring, winning cups doesn't matter. Our standards have been set long ago and we're not going to accept that from any Aberdeen team. No way should we take any glory from that.

Admittedly, we're yet to find out how Moyes reacts to winning a cup final...

I am more excited about my lunch time sandwich then I am about the idea of David Moyes being in charge of Manchester United.

True... it is toasted cheese.... but still.

I'm nervously excited. It's the fear of the unknown and the start of a new era. I'm looking forward to next season no matter who ends up managing us. Deep down I've imagined what it will be like once Fergie leaves and the time has now come. It's gonna be one hell of a ride.

I've always maintained it will be an exciting time when we get a new manager, it's an experience a lot of us wont have had before.

All that excitement is taken away by appointing David Moyes though.

If we appoint Moyes then I can't wait for the inevitable U-turn on here. Possibly when we win a few games or beat a rival.

It won't be a u-turn to be vocal about which candidates we want or don't want until one is signed, but then get firmly behind whichever man gets the job. Wanting the best for the club but sticking by it no matter what.

That's called being a good supporter.

Sorry hearing SAF retire only for Moyes to be the front runner is very hard to get excited about. There's not a single thing, not 1 that gets me excited about David Moyes.

Exactly.

You've read what people are writing about Moyes, they're not going to be 100% behind him. I just can't see it.

How about idolizing someone for being great at what they do, and then showing no trust at all in their judgement. Surely any rational supporter can trust Fergie and the club here and maybe even see why they may be picking Moyes.

We don't know if Moyes can handle big signings? What's the biggest one he's made? Fellaini?

Fellaini, Yakubu, James Beattie, Bilyaletdinov and Andy Johnson.

3 of them proven scorers who suddenly stopped scoring after a while, and now Jelavic is following that trend. The Russian guy looked alright, but it never worked out.

Sad really but there's also an element of excitement. It's unknown to a lot of us. Sir Alex will still be here - so maybe moyes wouldn't be so bad. At the end of the day, we're expected to play a certain way. This season, most people weren't thrilled by our performances

So let's see. I'm just glad Sir Alex will still be involved either way. I'm sure he'll still play a big part behind the scenes
