Brazilian wizard says Manchester United is a dream, club pursue work permit
Everton Ribeiro isn't a name usually in the Manchester United rumour mill, the Cruzeiro box of tricks is 24 years old and though he's been linked with a move to Europe several times, nothing has really come of it. The usually reliable Lancenet in Brazil claimed this weekend that Manchester United had sent someone to Brazil to watch the player recently and are interested in signing him.
Lancenet say that before making an official offer to his club, Manchester United want to make sure they'd be able to get a work permit. Ribeiro doesn't play for the Brazil national team and would therefore have to be allowed a permit on a special case, with Manchester United having to put an argument forward that he's worthy of one. The Brazilian outlet say that Ribeiro's involvement with the national U20 team, when he was a left back, will help such a case.
If successful, Lancenet reckon Ribeiro would cost Manchester United around €8m, he's not the big money signing many fans of the club expect. He can play on either wing but also through the middle and has played in defence previously. He's been linked with moves to China, Russia and Qatar but his agent Robson Ferreira told Lancenet that he only wants the player to move to a big European club.
By some remarkable coincidence and convenience, Ribeiro spoke to Brazilian TV last week and said that a move to a big club was a dream for him, specifically mentioning Manchester United "I will continue doing my job here at Cruzeiro but plan on getting to a big club. It's a dream I've had since young, I've always liked Manchester United."
The winger clearly fancies the move and if Lancenet are correct then so do Manchester United. Aside from the work permit, a problem could his ownership. Cruzeiro only own 60% of his rights, the rest held by a company owned by his agent.

An interesting one... According to Wiki, he can play left wing back, either wing or as an attacking midfielder.

What happened to straightforward transfers? Every one now seems to be a fecking mindboggling maze of agents, ownership rights and clauses.

I remember the goal at 1:25 when it happened. Nice shot.

Unless he has Neymar potential I don't see the point. We have enough standard wingers.

Unless he has Pele potential I don't see the point. We have enough footballers.

Top job Moyesy, if we can't sign players from Everton, we will sign players called Everton :D

Bloody Moyes, always wanting to bring in Everton players.

God, we're trully transforming into Everton now.

( this thread couldn't end up any other way, could it ? )

Can't be any worse than our current wasters. Sign him up. How can he not be class with a surname called Ribeiro?

It's the 24 years old part that I'm worried about. Why did it take this long for his name to pop up?

From the three of four Cruzeiro games i've seen this season he was very impressive, but then again its the brasilian league where the pace and the intensity of play is nowhere near that of the premiership.

His agent has apparently confirmed that they've been in talks with United.

A better source though.
Cruzeiro insist they are not in talks to sell Everton Ribeiro

Cruzeiro have responded to fresh speculation about star player Everton Ribeiro and Manchester United, by reiterating they have not received any offers for the player.
Midfielder Ribeiro, who has never played for Brazil, was named Player of the Year in Brazil having helped Cruzeiro to the title.
Reports in Brazil claim that United are holding meetings about the 24-year-old midfielder - but the club insist there is no such talks.
Cruzeiro's director of football Alexandre Mattos told Globo Esporte: "We have not received any offer for him so far and I we are not aware of any interest from any club.
"Everton Ribeiro will only leave the club if Cruzeiro want."
Ribeiro's agent Robson Ferreira was quick to comment on Mattos's quotes and said that he was dealing with the English giants directly.
"Cruzeiro have not received anything because I am handling the situation directly with Man United," he is quoted by Globo Esporte.
"Everton Ribeiro has just been named the best player in Brazilian Football. Man United are interested in Everton Ribeiro.
"David Moyes is impressed and I personally met a Man United official and I was impressed. Man United consider him a complete midfielder."

With that name I am sure that Moyesy would be interested in him.
