Todays performance is exactly why I wanted him over Hojlund, that’s no slight on Hojlund BUT Ferguson showed more than enough last season to show he’s going to be a superstar and he’s doing it in the Premier League already whereas Hojlund may well have to adapt and settle.
They were never selling him this summer. Point is moot

Still think we should've gone in now. He'll explode this season and I could see us having to compete with Arsenal/Liverpool/Chelsea/Newcastle next summer.

Time will tell if we went with the right option. I think a little bit more than we paid for Hojlund we could’ve gotten him.

Yeh im not sure about that. Think given the fees we've seen this window it's fair to assume Brighton would have wanted north of 100mil. Maybe even around what they got for Caicedo. And given we've seen our attempt at penny pinching, it's probably also fair to assume we wouldn't have been able to afford that.

Something tells me Sir Alex is probably absolutely boiling at us not moving for this lad.

He is a bit special.

He’s as guaranteed as they come IMO. His strengths are not as obvious as an 18 year old Rooney, but it’s starting to feel like when an older Kane started scoring for Spurs.

The one thing that I count against him is the Brighton factor - how many of the players they’ve sold have lived up to their assumed potential when they were at Brighton?
I think the Brighton flop thing is a bit OTT, their recently sold key players:

White - Success
Burn - Success
Cucurella - Flop
Bissouma - Success
Trossard - Success
Caicedo -
Mac Allister -

It’s fair to say they’re all great players bar Cucurella, I think buying the right players from them currently should be encouraged.

Get the chequebook out. £30m loan next summer with an obligation to buy in 2030!

We’ll get him. Despite this thread telling me he isn’t needed because we already have the grand total of one attacking player in rashford and potentially another in Rasmus who may be able to get over 10 goals in a season I suspect we will want to reinforce the attack at some point in the next 2 seasons.

Will all depend on the sale, not just regarding us having the money but if we have owners that push for big names they might find going for someone like Oshimen more glamorous. Impossible to say what will happen going forward.

Even if it is to be Qatar they do seem to have learned. PSG have had a rather good window which has gone under the radar with all the Mbappe noise.

He will cost £150m next summer at this rate. The only way we’d buy him at that price, especially with all the other problem areas we’ve to address, is if Rasmus turns out to be proper shite.

You havent seen Hojlund yet.

also, if Brighton sold a midfielder for 115m, how much do you think they would want for an even younger British (pretty much) player? i think 130m plus?
If United get the fans desired takeover money will be no object.
If they don't he'll end up at a London club or Real.

15 goals in 32 appearances at 18 years old, in the PL is elite. Whoever gets him will have a superstar.

We potentially need a CM for Casemiro and a CB for Varane. Our “problem area” is scoring goals.
That’s assuming the likes of Antony, AWB/Dalot, Mount can actually make the step up and be good enough for the team. Sancho is also basically a dud now so we will definitely need wide players realistically. If Rasmus shows enough promise to bang in somewhere between 10 and 20 PL goals (which would be great!) there’s no way we will use our entire transfer budget on another striker.

He’s special and it was always obvious. We should’ve gone all out for him over Rasmus.

We haven't even seen what Rasmus can do yet, but poor guy isn't going to stand a chance if he's going to be compared Haaland and Ferguson early on.

I doubt Brighton would have sold him this summer anyway unless it was a crazy offer, which we were never going to do whilst still been held back by the Glazers, and Ferguson might have rejected us at this point aswell, he seems happy where he is to me for now.

Well you can shove your "pretty much" right up your hole

If you think we’re replacing Antony and Mount next year then I have a bridge to sell you. They are key players in the profile of the squad we’re building out of possession. Our issue is scoring goals. The idea we shouldn’t have two high potential young attackers in the same squad is bonkers and the complete antithesis of everything that made Sir Alex successful. Goals win games. Strikers are what you spend your budgets on - a point that seems to be missed in the era of the 120m DM.

Most of this chat should go in the thread in the football forum.

Shades of a young Rooney about him. We should break the bank for him next summer. Clearly got something and the character to make it at a big club.

Spurs enquired ans got quoted £100mil. So there was zero chance od us signing him this summer.

I think you’re misconstruing what I’m saying. I agree we should go for him regardless of whether Rasmus is a success or not. But strikers cost a fortune now and the days of clubs having multiple top strikers on the books (especially when most only play with one up top) are long gone. I just can’t see the club spending £150m or so on a striker if the one they paid £72m a year ago proves to be a success. I would love if we got Ferguson but I’d be shocked if it happens unless Rasmus flops big time.

He’s as British as Kylian Mbappe mate.

Think people need to chill on why we haven't already paid out for Ferguson. He's still young and as such still suffers from inconsistency. When he's on like he was today, he puts everything away but he also has games that he struggles to get into and is subbed off early. Think United fans would have no patience for those highs and lows after spending a big fee. It's likely to happen Hojlund too but I think he should just stay at Brighton until he and his game matures because he's clearly going to be sensational when he does get that consistency.
