Europa League Draw, Round of 32 - we got Real Sociedad

Are people really scared of Real fecking Sociedad?

My god, how have standards fallen around here. :wenger:

I think some of the twitter stuff filters through to the players, unfortunately (not the Caf, though), because they are impressionable kids with brands to tend. If you scroll through the twitter comments linked to the players, it is not filled to the brin with ‘Real Sociedad is a really tough opponent, I wish we’d have gotten Molde’. If so, they might have become more ‘scared’ of them, but as you suggest in your last post, they’d just as likely be more on their toes.

But as twitter is more filled with ‘This sucks!’, ‘JLingz = losr’, ‘Pogba TRAITOR’ and ‘Ole Out!’, I don’t think someone writing ‘hope we get a cheap draw’ on the Caf is going to filter through and affect the players at all, no. I think it much more likely that what if anything affects the players negatively, are all the fans that expect us to be best in Europe and trying to ‘raise the standards’ by dishing out ‘NOT UTD MATERIAL’ grades in the public.

I’d wish it wasn’t so, but I think it’s pretty likely.

I do agree with that however, fan mood does still effect players and to some extent the manager.

A good example is the managerial job. When the manager realises he is under pressure, he goes into his shell, defensive tactics, do not lose.

Reckon we will somehow end up against one of the other Premier League teams before the final somehow.

Finding it hard to muster any excitement about this right now though.

Sevilla are better than them and we should have beat them - if we are fully fit and at our best I don't see it being a big problem.

Its amazing, there was a time when the whole world hoped to see us draw the Real Galacticos knowing they'd watch the best football possible, and now we are shitting ourselves over Sociedad.

Its a joke. People on here acting as if they are Prime Barca.

I don't understand this either. We should knock them out even with Bruno not playing full minutes both games.

Nice trip (if anyone could actually go) but apart from that, its hard to get too excited by this. My season priorities now for selecting strength of teams would be:

1. Premier League (I'm glass half full - if we beat Burnley as the game in hand, we're 2 points off the top whilst playing average football so far this season. If we can start to play a bit better, why not try and capitalize on this weirdest of seasons).
2. FA Cup
3. Carabao Cup (given we're in the last 8 already)
4. Europa League
That's what I thought. In normal times people would/should be salivating over the prospect of a trip to San Sebastian. It's an amazing city.

Plus the leaders of the Belgian, Dutch, Ukrainian, Greek, Swiss, Austrian and Serbian leagues

That's twelve league leaders, compared to zero in the Champions League :):wenger:

Ok, so we dropping this like Liverpool do with domestic cups?

I can see the narrative excuses already. Hardest Europa league in years, we should be glad to have come this far
"Improvement, there's no shame in going out against La Liga leader"

"You do realize they're better than Madrid and Barca at the moment don't you?"

There's always some poor excuse.

Europa is where the action is ;)

That's us out then. We rarely play well against Spanish sides.
Good news for Ole though, he wouldn't have won it anyway. Can now focus on top 4 in the PL to save his job, that is what its all about

Currently top of La Liga so must be doing something right. Still think we will beat them.

They are a good team, but we are better and should win this over 2 matches 4 out of 5 times.

Are you joking?
Have you watched La Liga recently? The standard of top 6 teams in Spain is at least on the same level as top 6 in PL, and Real is currently above Ream Madrid and Barcelona.

Yes I've watched la Liga recently and if you think we should be scared of Real Societat then I don't know what to tell you.

We should off course not be scared, but RS is probably one of the toughest opponent you can get right now. It just seemed like you underestimated RS.

My predictions

Wolfsberger AC (AUT) v Tottenham Hotspur (ENG)
Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) v Club Brugge (BEL)
Real Sociedad (ESP
) v Manchester United (ENG)
SL Benfica (POR) v Arsenal (ENG)
Red Star Belgrade (SRB) v A.C. Milan (ITA)
Royal Antwerpen (BEL) v Glasgow Rangers (SCO)
Slavia Praha (CZE) v Leicester City (ENG)
Red Bull Salzburg (AUT)
v Villarreal (ESP)
SC Braga (POR) v AS Roma (ITA)
FC Krasnodar (RUS)
v Dinamo Zagreb (CRO)
Young Boys (SUI) v Bayer Leverkusen (GER)
Molde (NOR) v Hoffenheim (GER)
Granada (ESP) v SSC Napoli (ITA)
Maccabi Tel-Aviv (ISR) v Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)
LOSC Lille (FRA) v Ajax Amsterdam (NED)
Olympiakos (GRE) v
PSV Eindhoven (NED)

Drop it. Look like we're having shit luck this year. pSG Leipzig, and now Real Soceidad straight after we dropping down as seeded. Even if we beat them, we likely pick up another tough team next round. Not worth it really.

The league is wide open this season. If you want to gamble and then that's the where we should throw everything at. Resting our players and focusing to repeat that run post restart, and we're a title contender.

Has Sliva transformed them? I would worry about any team with David Silva in it. Pep will be missing him.

Bad luck with the draws, last years CL finalist and semi finalist with a long trip to Istanbul then we drop down to Europa to find ourselves playing La Liga leaders with Silva ready to sink us.

Saying that, I think we have enough to get through

Yes, if anything, I think the combination fan negativity x media negativity is what can affect the staff of a club negatively, players included. Brian Clough would have been hospitalized within a week at the current Man United.

Have you?
There is a reason why Sociedad are above Madrid and Barca, with the latter being in shambles and probably the worst I've seen them since 15 years.
Might I remind you that Sociedad wouldn't even made it to the R32 if it wasnt for Rijeka causing a big upset and beating AZ in the last round.

You're talking on "if". Napoli was taking the beating by Real Soceidad, and got lucky not to lose that game. If this and if that, it's same shit as saying we're whisker away to get to next round of CL, from an own goal from Leipzig. It didn't happen when it matters. End of.
