Europa League Draw, Round of 32 - we got Real Sociedad

They’ll have dropped off in the league by the time the game comes around, probably not enough to rest players and use the likes of James, Tuanzebe etc though

There are some cracking games in the Europa League, which I, personally, think is a very, very, very good trophy to win. Look at the Pedigree of some of the teams still left in the competition.. there are some great fixtures, potentially.

I think OGS should completely go for it. I want us to completely go for it. Why not? To concentrate on 'achieving' a top four finish?

We need a trophy and OGS definitely needs a trophy. We have a large enough squad, we have to make do with what we have, galvanise the players, and the club, and get out there and go for it.

BUT.... I do not think OGS sees it this way. He's always been nervous as a manager, and this is only showing itself even more prominently as his time progresses in the role. A shame.

You're talking on "if". Napoli was taking the beating by Real Soceidad, and got lucky not to lose that game. If this and if that, it's same shit as saying we're whisker away to get to next round of CL, from an own goal from Leipzig. It didn't happen when it matters. End of.

You mean the game Sociedad drew in the 90+ minute that Napoli were lucky not to lose?

I'm saying they were far from convincing and were a goal from elimination. Rijeka won the game in the 90+ minute and AZ was the favorite coming in the final game.

I'm not saying they didn't deserve to go through or something. I'm saying they aren't all that and are riding a momentum, which is probably coming to an end - they drew the last 6 games, were far from convincing in their last two and as I said have short bench and come to a very saturated Christmas period where they play Barcelona(A), Levante (A), Atletico (H) in a course of a week. Then they have Bilbao (A), Osasuna (H), Sevilla (A), Betis (H), Villareal (A).

By all accounts they have a run of 8 awful fixtures that will IMO certainly drop them in the table.

They may stay as title challenge and drop down the table, they have been a tough team to play against at least since last season. They're pretty much a game raising team too. They're there and about for that reason. The more they have less focus in the league, the more their ambition in EL.

Not unbeatable, but you would have to go to length to beat them, then it's mile away a job to reach EL final, while risking all the distraction in the league. As uninspired our league form may look on the eye, we're in the mix even for title run. If we can get less distraction, and focus to repeat similar run like last season restart, we may as well in a title run.

Sociedad have played 13 matches thus far, meaning one more than Real, 2 more than Barca and Atleti.
If we are to be scared if them, then we are in serious trouble. Rest as many players as you could until we reach final stages (if we do). PL is more important
And of course, play for the win, just be smart o know when to rest players and whom

Tough draw for us. Tricky tie.
We’d have to treat this like any cup matches.

These guys in free fall now - if Athleti win their games in hand Sociedad could be 15 points off 1st which is incredible as they were 1st when the EL draw took place.
Everyone crying about how hard the draw was hopefully now has returned to reality.

Not at all. The reality is they are a very tricky side. Inconsistent, like they were last year. But their high is very good. Like I said. Top 6 side with top 4 potential.

Gentleman's bet they won't be top 6 when we play the 1st leg?

Don't know anyone who has interest in this competition, all in agreement United would be better off going out in this round.

I am in the camp of sacking this off and prioritising league form, since I cant see OGS rotating much outside of injuries taking place and attempt to gain an advantage on our competitors by not being involved in it.

We should be trying to be a comfortable 3rd and closer to 1st and 2nd this year at worst, and not by the skin of the teeth 3rd and way off 1st and 2nd like last year.

If it was one leg ties I’d consider it.

How are they doing themselves in the league? Of course we should aim to win it, otherwise why play in it although i know we do not want to be in there
