Europa League 2018/19 | The Noble Wulf Edition

Controversial opinion but I look at the team you put out in both legs and to me it simply isn't that good.

Coates and Ilori were both seen as joke defenders in England, is Mathieu still at your club or did he leave with the rest in the summer? Bruno Fernandes sounds a player but can't say I've heard of anyone else in midfield like Guedjl and that Macedonia guy, just read Acuna was suspended so not ideal to lose an experienced head like that.

It's not a team that really should be challenging for europa league compared to the obvious teams. More arguably whether you should be 4th in domestic league but after the summer you had...

Just lost too much quality in one go. Just 18 months ago you had Nani on one side and Gelson on the other so big difference to now.
Coates has nothing to do with Ilori. Bolly was seen like a joke at Porto and he is ok in England. Mathieu is injured. Regarding the rest last season we reached the quarterfinals with Atletico and it was closer than it looks. Of course the squad is significantly weaker. Villarreal deserved during the 180 minutes to qualify but a bad referee decision influenced the outcome of the game. It wouldn’t be the same playing 11 vs 11 for 40 minutes. Anyway even if we qualified to the next round we don’t have quality on the squad to compete at this level. The only extra player we have now is Bruno Fernandes. Don’t know if he will be sold or not but that’s another issue. Good luck for Villa, cheers.

That's quite the number of strong teams left in the competition. I'm sure of a number of them fancies a chance. Sevilla must be favorites by the virtue of being Sevilla.

Bruno fernandes is now the portuguse player with most goal this season ( for now) and the midfielder wirh the most goals in Europe. 22 goals and 10 assists for a CAM is absurd. He is having a ridiculous season. Imagine if he actually had good players around him. I hope we can keep him this summer but I am 95% sure he is gone.
You have to put into context that the majority were on the domestic league. I don’t know if he will be sold or not but honestly I see him more as a 10 than a 8. I doubt anyone will break the bank for him but I doubt we’ll keep him. Anyway don’t want more players here who want to leave, it was a big mistake BDC made trying too keep them for so long. It backfired and I don’t need to explain why.

Leverkusen, of course. Smashing us 3-0 in the league, then going out of Europa limply to Krasnodar. But what an exemplary game for the "which team has the advantage after 0-0 in the first leg"-thread ;)
I expect something similar for our return match against Liverpool.

Dinamo won 3:0 vs Plzen. Fantastic display, Czechs never stood a chance really. Playing like we did yesterday we can give it a go against anyone.

UEFA Europa League Round of 16:

Chelsea vs. Dynamo Kyiv
Frankfurt vs. Inter Milan
Dinamo Zagreb vs. SL Benfica
Napoli vs. Salzburg
Valencia CF vs. FC Krasnodar
Sevilla vs. Slavia Praha
Arsenal vs. Stade Rennais
Zenit vs. Villarreal

Not a super exciting draw, the only interesting matches could be Eintracht - Inter and Arsenal - Rennes

Napoli v Salzburg and Dinamo v Benfica could be cracking as well.

Chelsea and arsenal kept apart is good for us.
Emery will want to win it, maybe Sarri if he loses the League Cup. Still think the priority for Chelsea will be top four though. I seem them resting players for the Europa at least until the semis.

Now it begins for Chelsea. Feck that match in Kiev then to fly back for a mid day kick off on Sunday

For a draw that had no seeding, it sure looks seeded. City's draw in the domestic cups and CL is dodgy as well. Our draw in the FA cup etc. #conspiracy #corruption #abu #whitetext

I reckon Frankfurt vs Inter Milan will give us two great games......Arsenal vs Rennes and Napoli vs Salzburg will be interesting too

The quarter-finals could be fantastic

Chelsea
Inter Milan
Benfica
Napoli
Valencia
Sevilla
Arsenal
Zenit

Frankfurt in the Europa League this season have managed these results:

home:
(W) 4-0 Marseille
(W) 4-1 Lazio
(W) 2-0 Limassol
(W) 4-1 Shakhtar

away:
(W) 2-1 Marseille
(W) 2-1 Lazio
(W) 3-2 Limassol
(D) 2-2 Shakhtar

Shouldn't be too easy for Inter.

Could be an incredible QF line-up. Although I could see Salzburg upset Napoli and Frankfurt beat Inter.

Salzburg are Europa League killers, they can beat Napoli for sure.

Eintracht v Inter is an exciting tie.

Yep, Frankfurt is having an incredible season, especially in Europe.

What happens to fourth if an English team wins the EL?
Even if fourth qualifies, I don't want Chelsea or Arsenal winning it.

It's like UEFA's perfect draw in terms of keeping the big teams apart. The quarter finals are going to be great! Can't really predict Benfica vs Dinamo Zagreb as I don't watch either league, but I am going to go against the grain & say Carlo will steer Napoli through the tough tie.

Arsenal won't win a European trophy - Don't worry about it.

Oh Arsenal are playing now first away from home ....good news for us because they are playing three days later at Old Trafford.

4th place to Manchester United and Arsenal or Chelsea are winning the Europa League => Five english clubs in next season Champions League

Wait, what happened? I thought they were at home first?

Lacazette got a three game ban  They'll be without him for the first QF game, even if they do beat Rennes.

Ahh, thanks both. Pretty harsh on Rennes. I'd much rather be at home second.
I don't think UEFA would have done that if the tie would be Arsenal vs PSG/Lyon.....yep unfair on Rennes.

If UEFA have a problem with Arsenal and Chelsea are playing at home on the same day then one of them should play on Wednesday (like it was with Sevilla and Real Betis this week).

Salzburg will surprise a lot of people. I am not saying they are the favourites against Napoli, but it will be much closer than most think.

If we finish 4th and Arsenal win the EL we'd have 5 teams in the Champions League next season.

Erm, England kind of had 5 teams in the CL last season.
Thanks.

Arsenal have won the cup winners cup, which is an European trophy.

I doubt anyone will care right now, but there's some pretty decent Europa League ties tomorrow :D Nothing will top the last two days, but who knows? Might get an AFTV meltdown in the early kick-off, & Napoli vs RB Salzburg right afterwards

Ozil starting for Arsenal.
