Erling Haaland

We aren't Bayern. We are Liverpool of the 2000s under Hicks and Gillette. But we won't be so lucky to have the courts force a sale.

Shit but true. Better to sign the players to get us back to the top and if they want to leave it'll be an easier building point than where we are now.

And let's be honest if we had signed him and Bruno and actually where winning stuff he wouldn't want to leave. Now wouldn't that be better than our yet again half arsed attempt at improving.

Look at City's summer last year and ours. You would think they where the ones who where miles behind not us. No ambition at all at this club sadly.
You're forgetting Haaland has an agent who offered Pogba and Mkhi to City when we were doing really well in the league under Jose?? Us doing well now under Ole would be close to irrelevant especially with a client who's clause can be triggered by any club including the likes of City and Liverpool. A lot of talk now is hypocritical if Haaland left for a measley £65m you'd be berating Woodward like he bombed a building. Despite our last few years we're still one of the biggest clubs in the world we shouldn't have to contort to standards only favorable to agents and reps over the club even Liverpool of 2000s would never do that. We'd be no different to Arsenal who have Odegaard on loan that Madrid will immediately take back the moment he plays well.
Our last summer was poor no sugarcoating but if you genuinely expected us or any other club in general(Chelsea's case is an exception which was caused by factors people are aware of) to go on a spending spree during a pandemic you have yourself to blame. It's not helped that BVB's demands for Sancho were unrealistic if they accepted our £80m plus £15m add ons offer(which was HUGE) our net spend would have exceeded £100m on top of what we spent for VDB only Chelsea would have spent more than us. Let's hope this year they are willing to do business in a more realistic manner

The saddest aspects to this Haaland saga is
1. When he was playing for Molde aged 16 , why on earth did Ole not let anyone at OT know that he had a phenomenon on his books
2. His father will never let him sign for Utd , he still hates us , because of Roy Keane's tackle on him
3. We've virtually sworn to never deal with his agent again !
:boring:

I don't expect us to do anything because we are a terribly run football club.

What we should do is a different matter. There has always been an excuse with us Pandemic or no Pandemic.
No point saying Ifs and buts about Sancho. For all we know we had no intention of ever completing that deal.

Possibly it's better to pretend Dortmund wanted too much money.

I get the Lukaku comparison, both have excellent size, speed and strength. But in my opinion he is much more similar to a prime Adriano. Prime Adriano was so scary and so good. Haaland is that sort of player imo.

Now, this is a comparison I can get behind.

1. When he was playing for Molde aged 16 , why on earth did Ole not let anyone at OT know that he had a phenomenon on his books
Think you are being ironic, but anyways.
Always wondered why United never made an offer for him, while Haaland was in Molde. Utd was probably the club who did the most thorough scouting job on Haaland- Utd scout Tommy Møller Nielsen attended most of Moldes games in Haalands break through season, and was on the stadium, when Haaland (17), scored 4 against league leaders Brann in 17 minutes.

Could have signed him for £5 mill, but only Juventus and Red Bull Salzburg made an offer.

He's a fantastic player, in a position we're weak in. He's got the ability, seems to have that drive, has previously worked with Ole and is from a footballing family. All perfect for Manchester United.

However, his agent alone is a big negative and a big reason I won't be too disappointed if we didn't get him.

Not sure he would have come here anyway. He chose the smart choice out of Salzburg and Juve to get game time and develop his game. He probably thought he wouldn't get much game-time here, at the time we would have had Lukaku, Sanchez, Martial, Rashford, Mkhi, Mata, Lingard and most importantly Mourinho.

Maybe not, but we never tried. Was it Jose or the scouting team that wasn't convinced?

1) Of course he did. As someone who has some of his closest friends connected to the club, it stands to reason that at some point he may have let it be known that he manages someone kinda talented. Manchester United had scouts in attendance when he netted 4 goals in a game as a bloody 16 year old: https://www.goal.com/en-ae/news/haa...kjaer-man-utd-scout/4vps18443gln10sl1irvv9tfz

2. This is not true. Alf Inge Haaland has stated publcily that he does not mind, and would even be happy to see his son play for Manchester United. He makes a distinction between being a fan and work. Like most adults do.

3. Sir Alex Ferguson did. The club obviously takes no public stance on that.

The thing I hate the most personally about the entire saga is this quote from last year after we failed to sign Haaland, and it makes a very grim suggestion that the club itself is the reason Haaland is not here. I saw this interview when it happened since its in Norwegian, but the quote goes like so:

"“You never know how it would go in other clubs. It may well have been good, too, if we had chosen a different route. We’ll never get an answer to that. But we are very happy with the clubs he has been in,” said Haaland Sr."

“You have to go to a club where the whole club wants you, not just the coach. I think that’s the most important thing, in addition to how the club has been over the last five or ten years and what direction they’ve taken.

“Because it’s dangerous to just sign for a coach, because he can suddenly be sacked.”

I said it before and I will say it again.... if there is only one player we can buy this window.... it has to be him.... period...

the guy has everything and at such a young age, we can recoup all of our money if he decides to leave for other clubs in 4-5 years time.... just go and get him

Solskjaer is in regular contact with him, so we don't need anyone to sweet talk him, I doubt Dortmund will let him go this summer, think Sancho will leave first,

And around half of those appearances he was playing for Reb Bull Salsburg. Man's a machine

Give me one good excuse not to go all out for this guy.

Haven't signed a top striker since RVP. And Lukaku was our only other attempt to.

Ronaldo took 56 matches to get to 20, is that correct?

Murtough's old comments on Haaland when he was asked about scouting him several years ago is very interesting now given his appointment.

Haaland's buyout clause only kicks in summer 2022 where he can leave for 60 odd million. This summer he's going to be priced at close to double that meaning nobody will buy him. Not even City.

We aren't signing Haaland this summer guys. I got stick for saying we wouldn't get Sancho last summer due to Covid and was proven right. Even more sure on this one. We don't have 100 to 120m for a single player this year. How could we?

I genuinely don't think we will even be able to sell Pogba either which I'm sure some fans were banking on.

Is the new structure designed to make a run for Haaland?

- when choosing Dortmund he said that he felt Ole wanted him but not MUFC

so next time we talk to him it’ll be football men not money men.

Question is, is Darren Fletcher the one to convince him to come here over every other big European club?

Be amazed if he's not at City by next season.

I think the only scenario where he leaves Dortmund this summer is if they fail too qualify for CL. Then I think they‘ll have to let both Sancho and Haaland go. If that happens we probably need to put 110-130 M EURO on the table to get talks with him (unless there is an unknown CL-clause in his contract), and it will be very interesting to see which other clubs that will spend that kind of money now. I don’t think he’ll even consider PSG, Italian clubs or Chelsea.
Sancho will most likely leave this summer no matter what.

Pfffff! I'm so tired of reading this BS take on why he didn't sign for us in Dec 2019.
Ole did all he could. The club didn't, and I still think it was too early for him to sign for a club as big as ours. He wanted a smaller step, to be a guaranteed starter, instant KO stages of the CL, guearanteed CL play next season and he wanted the release clause to be in total control of his step to the big guns. His connection to us, Ole, was walking on this ice at the club at the time as well and Dortmund's charm offensive (the whole team approached him on social media begging him to sign for them and telling him how they looked forward to play with him) and willingness to be his steppingstone won him over. We offered him way more money than them, but could not match the security, gametime/development, CL and charm at the time, and hopefully we have learned from it. We need to present a believable, ambitious and interesting plan to him, and the whole club must be behind Ed and Ole the next time we approach him. If he's sold on the project wew have a chance.
We're big club in how much money we can pay. Not that we're on a different level and in all conquering mode. We're having similar objective like Dortmund at the moment: wrapping up CL football behind the obvious favorite.

With that in mind, Ole didn't do it enough. He couldn't guarantee Haaland starting status. He didn't see all to its Haaland full potential. Your point contradict itself based on the wrong assumption of the bolded part.

Instant CL KO, CL football guarantee didn't stop many other players joining teams that ain't in it. We ourselves are the strong example of that. Same window it didn't stop Bruno from joining us.

With our model, the manager role covering much of other clubs' DOF duty too. We all heard how SAF worked to influence during the signing of players beside the executive director negotiate the contract with the agent and the club. In comparison, at Dortmund, players would be signed regardless of the head coach influence. If our current manager can't sell the project back then, I doubt we would be able to do anything better if we try now. In a normal season, we're not exactly doing that great, nor we're showing ambition to conquer the league or Europe any time soon, which would be Haaland next step. Look how quickly thing turn for worse for Klopp and Liverpool within this season. There is no longer SAF to guarantee long term project, so if you can't really sell it in shorter term, you unlikely achieve any thing now.

We never had the first dibs on players from South America. Now it seems we don't have first dibs on Nordic players either.

So much for the biggest club in the world. This is what happens when you let mediocrity set in in the name of showing "patience" with managers.

£150mil would be cheap.

10 years+ of service.

If our owners have any ambition they need to get bidding. He will make the club a fortune in the long run. Signing Zlatan,Lukaku and Cavani cost us a lot. It adds up with transfer fees+agent fees.

I am all for it if he scores enough goals to dig out the defence when it still concedes a few of those sloppy goals

Yeah Im not buying any link with this one. I will be delighted if I see a picture with him holding a united scarf above his head ( Or todays equivalent) . until then Im not getting on this train .

Just cannot see any way in a million years that we could sign him whilst keeping Pogba too

Well won't be much use if we sign him and downgrade to having a midfield that has no passing ability. He will need more than just Bruno feeding him from midfield.

Pogba and Halaand would be brilliant together.

We sold Lukaku and signed no striker since. We should not need to sell our second best player to replace Lukaku.

Madrid were equally terrible when Ronaldo decided to join them, then they built such a brilliant team that dominated CL like no other club.

Also not sure how his development will stagnate at Barca, ManUtd, PSG or Madrid. He will always get plenty of chances at every club as he makes half chances into good chances because of his movement. With players like Bruno, Pogba in the midfield, Haaland will get plenty of chances.

Things change very quickly in football, Liverpool for 2 years looked like they can't do anything wrong, it was all perfect. City for 1.5 seasons looked like average team. Now Liverpool can't do anything right and City cant do anything wrong.

If he wants to build legacy then he should go to Spain top 2. No club will build the legacy of player like those 2.
Madrid now is even worse than in 2009, I assure you.
