Erling Haaland / signs for Dortmund

Thanks for that pearl of wisdom

You mock but this is the most realistic comment in the thread!

We get those that talk about his release clause and value like they are his agent to those that think they know where he will be in the next 5 mins!

The appeal of playing for United must be pretty huge for a Norwegian player right now.

We’re massive there already but with Ole in charge the interest is even greater.

He’s ours, relax

Apparently Utd would like to bring in an experienced striker as well to guide the youngsters. Word is Neil Shipperley to come in on a 6 month pay as you play contract. Wily, old experienced striker.
Is this legit Shipperly is coming? Word on the streets is that he's a bit of a wanker!

So.. Ole has said that Haaland knows where he's going to end up. Strongly hinting that he knows where Haaland is going to end up too.

Today, he 'broke' the story that Haaland was on his holiday and not on his way to Manchester, as was widely reported. He knew this because he once again confirmed he knows the lad and his family.

Despite being this close to him, Ole hasn't once ruled out signing him - An approach which the club have followed many times in the past.

This is absolutely done.
I like your reasoning, but I disagree with your conclusion:

a. Haaland knows where he's going
b. Ole knows where Haaland is going, for the reasons you explained
c. In particular, Ole knows that he's not coming to Manchester
d. Ole expressed surprise and doubt about him visitng Manchester this morning
e. Point (d) is because Ole expected Haaland to visit a city other than Manchester, as he's signed for a club other than Manchester United

I'd love us to be his next club. But I reckon the (circumstantial) evidence is hinting towards him going elsewhere. If Haaland was coming to Old Trafford early, Ole would have been a lot less uncertain about the situation.

But he wasn’t in Manchester? So the surprise makes sense in all scenarios here

If Haaland was about to move to Manchester, it would make sense that he might come to visit the city. Ole would be coy the reports, but not flat out deny them when asked.

If Haaland was about to move to a different city, Ole would be on solid ground by flat out denying that Haaland was on a plane coming here.

At the press conference, Ole flat out denied that Haaland was on a plane coming here. That points towards the second of the above scenarios: our manager believes that Haaland has no reason to visit and can't come up with a rationale for why he would.

As it turned out, Ole flat out denied that Haaland was on a plane coming here. It's because our manager believes that Haaland has no reason to visit.

But he could just know he wasn’t planning to come today?

Which he’d know for sure if he was joining, of course.

Ole was able to answer the questions by saying he’s on a business holiday. Bit strange he knows where a player with another club is going on that very same day no?

You're assuming that a new boss knows all of his subordinate's personal plans.

My boss will know when I'm visiting our London office on a Monday, but he has no idea if I'm coming early on Saturday to do a bit of shopping.

Likewise, if Haaland wants to come a couple of weeks early to look at property near his dad's old house, he won't necessarily give Ole prior warning. In that situation, Ole would shrug his shoulders and say he doesn't know whether he's here or not. Instead, Ole said that there's nothing for Haaland to come to Manchester for. Ole can only be certain that Haaland won't be here if he knows that Haaland has nothing to see here. It's that certainty about Haaland's motives that points towards Haaland moving elsewhere.

Nah, just when he's coming to Manchester (if he is joining)

Berba believes from playing first hand with Martial at Monaco that he deserves more faith.

I love Berba but he has been talking shite regarding this transfer. To be an elite club you need proper competition in most positions, especially up top. He of all people should know that considering he didn't even make the CL final squad just days after finishing the season as PL top scorer.

I’m pretty sure, regarding how close Ole is with at least three in the Haaland party (Haaland jr, Haaland sr, jim solbakken), that Ole would actually know about Haaland’s holiday plans.
Especially if they managed to close the deal last friday, or whichever day it was.
So I would say Ole being certain points towards Haaland joining us.
Believe!

Lazy striker defends fellow lazy striker shocker by advising lazy transfer window. We are one muscle strain away from being in another striker crisis.

Martial doesn't use the fast twitch fibres in his muscles so very unlikely he'd get a muscle strain.

I, for one, am sick and tired every tom dick and harry of ex United players spilling their wisdom to us and teaching manager(s) what he/they should do, who he(they should buy or sell, what tactick to apply, probably based on their humongous experience and knowledge as managers themselves!
:wenger:
I don't remember hearing/reading him giving advices to Tottenham? Is it because he will not get enough public attention, clicks, what not, or is it he "loves" United soooo much more then Spurs. Right.
Just shut the f... up and live your life and leave us alone.

Our treble winning season we had 4 strikers Yorke, Cole Ole and Teddy. Granted we played close enough to a 442 but having just Martial as our CF Is not enough seeing as Rashford doesn’t seem the same player up there as back up.

He’s talking beans

I think you and many others are getting it wrong. Ole is reacting to the Norwegian journalist claiming that Haaland in that same day was on his way to Manchester. Only because he was at Stavanger airport. I can imagine it´s a bit tiring with all the false stories and wild guesses in the media. So Ole is denying that Haaland was on that specific plane from Stavanger - not because United are a shit club - simply just because he wasn´t.

That may happen, but that’s far more down to the clubs make-up at this point in time. Liverpool are well-drilled, cohesive system, sum is greater than the parts type; Manchester United are fairly lifeless, lacking true identity.

Put it the other way — if we signed Minamino and Liverpool signed Haaland, would you still say the same?

Our signings struggle to do well in general, and it can’t always be because they’re not the right player/not good enough.
You make a good point. About if we signed
Minimino would he end up being as successful with us as he probably will do at Liverpool. Can’t help but think of Kagawa, a player who in Moyes first season whenever he played our football looked much better but Moyes preferred the cumbersome Rooney as a 10. And honestly who knows how well Martial world be doing if he had Klopp for 3 years as a manager.

With Haaland I think he’s not the right player; and even if his good enough in terms of goals once a few seasons pass his limitations will start to annoy people. But I agree a lot of the times our signings flop not because they are crap but because our coaching sucks.

In a few years Minamino will be 26, very soon to be 27, whereas Håland will be 21. Of course Minamino will be regarded as a great coup because he'll be entering his prime, Håland won't be anywhere near his. You're talking a few years down the line also but still degrading United, how do you know how ourselves and Liverpool will be performing in a couple of years?
Because I’m psychic

Eh? Sorry? Am I living in an alternate universe here. United have a reputation for developing the highest number of successful players in English football playing top flight football. They don't all go on to make it at United. That said are you living under a rock at the moment? The team just reached its landmark 4000+ consecutive match day squads of home grown talent and this year's average first choice 11 age is just over 20.

Bizarre statement.

I'm interested to know why you both think this? Any reason? Or is it just because one has gone to Liverpool and you want to be negative about United.
Because one is a modern day footballer... the other is a throwback to the 90s or Lukaku 2.0

You're on a forum discussing football saying that a ex-professional footballer shouldn't talk about football...

I’m not a conspiracist type but I think after the Keane saga he’s (father) seeking revenge and will sign for PSG

No he's talking Martial.

Ole literally knew that Haaland was going on vacation, not in Manchester. The surprise was from the question being asked at all, since he knew he was not on his way there.
