Erling Haaland | Dortmund player

Bloody hell you muppet Ole coached him for a whole season at Molde. :lol:We were in for him but the kid chose Dortmund because

1. it is a much better prospect for his career. He's seen Sancho and Pulisic, Lewa and Auba. This is inarguable. We weigh down young players with unrealistic expectations and at this point in a mediocre team Erling Halaand's head would be first on the chopping block every time we lose.
2. United didn't want to give Raiola free reign.

Hah? You missed my point. So Ole knew about him way before December. So why did Ole make a move only in December, just when everybody was interested? Even you and I, a nobody, knew that by that time Dortmund was then the most sensible move. Also wasn't Raiola his agent just recently?

Every time he plays proves how smart he was to sign for them, a well structured team with lots of creative players around him, he'll definitely scores load of goals.

Let's pay up for his clause now. Nothing stopping us right? ;)

I know you're joking, but the clause (which is not officially confirmed) could actually not be activated until 2022.

Haaland has made the right career decision to join Dortmund, he will score a lot of goals in Germany, improving his game, before making a big money move to any club he wish later on.

instead this works perfectly. He goes to Dortmund, probably scores 50+ goals over the next couple of years, at which point Dortmund get the initial amount they paid, plus the wages back, and a bit on top of that. For them it’s almost like a loan deal where they’ll likely come out of it in profit. But for that reason I can also see why United weren’t interested.

Its almost as though he’s trying out for Bayern Munich at this time. The next Lewa in a way

Sums up how gullible a lot of this fanbase is. Woodward briefed the press that 'we backed out because we were never going to be held hostage'. These deluded fans are treating that as gospel and chest-thumping because 'we are not a stepping stone'.

What they're failing to comprehend is if there is any truth in those briefings then we basically snubbed one of the hottest properties in a position we desperately needed strengthening... for pride. And now we're scraping the barrel in the search for a short term option in that very position. Where's that pride now?

For what it's worth I think the reality is that he rejected us, not the other way around. I hope most people can see right through this face saving embarrassment from the specialist in failure.
Excellent post

Of course he rejected us - Ole literally told us straight to our face in a press conference - "I wont be talking about other clubs players" - whilst he clearly went out there to convince him to join us otherwise. Hardly doubt money was the option but just simply that we are not a good football club and not one making quick snappy decisions when coming to transfers as seen by this January.

There were rumors out here that stated we rejected him because of the stipulation were he could be sold for 60m in two years.

The best choice would be United. We have better training facilities, sport equipment and coaches....Yea, maybe you are right. At this moment, he might have rejected us..But, still our manager is Norwegian and Haland is Norwegian..That must account for something when trying to lure his attention

The reason we did not sign him was the buyout clause in his contract. Simple as that. Haaland himself has said he wants to play for Ole again and has said he wants to go the PL. We were clearly inn for him, but i guess the the club(?) found those terms unacceptable, which is fair imo. With such a low release clause hes basically on a glorified loan deal and Dortmund wont really make any money from him when he inevitably gets sold

I just find the whole deal with the release clause incredibly strange. I know that fet fecker Raiola loves to move around players since it gives him a nice wad of cash to stick in his fatarse pockets, but Haaland is probably worth way more than 50 million now, never mind in two years if he keeps developing

I honestly think you just see what you want to see.

I don't get it - if Haaland really wanted to come here over Dortmund then why would a release clause matter to him?

That wouldn't stop him signing a contract with us & he'd still prefer to come here over Dortmund surely?

I can see the other way around where he was relatively open minded at the start about him moving to Dortmund & United, aswell as previously Barcelona & Juventus- wanted to see both sides, whether Ole was long term United coach, checked Dortmund's facilities & stadium, their players & eventually Raiola managed to get a better contract out of them as well so Haaland rejected us because there was MULTIPLE things better at Dortmund than United.

Seems like a better place to be than united. If we added the clause we may be in talks for him longer but I see no reason why he still would be interested in a move to United over Dortmund - are you seeing what's happening at the club at the moment? Are you seeing the injuries and the way the players are attempting to play? The Boos & the scarves?

Give it a break - he rejected us because Dortmund is a better place to be than us right now - hopefully when his clause is activated we are in a better state and him wanting to move to the PL means he moves to us - picking up the where he should have left off.

It doesn't take a coaching badge to understand that there is not a single player in our squad that can create chances for Haaland & he himself would have also taken things like this in to consideration.

Jesus, I just hope he somehow flops so we don't have to hear all this tedious bickering and snarky comments for the next 5 years.

He made the best move for his career at this point in time. Him, his dad and agent are going to cash out big time in 18 months.

He chose Dortmund or maybe we didn’t like the idea of a release clause set very low. Ole did mention it in one of his pressers. I think the clause took us out of any further negotiations and he was certainly a player Ole wanted.

Same

I just can't wait until some games against Bayern Munich or some CL games atleast so Dortmund can actually play against a defence that may make things a bit harder.

Atleast to nullify the whole 5 in 45 minutes thing a bit.

I hope he keeps it going forever, Norway is up against Serbia and then most likely Scotland in the Euro qualifiers. Hopefully him and Ødegaard will do it for us.

Regarding the transfer, I‘m happy we didn’t agree a deal that would give him a low release clause in two-three years, with Raiola and his dad getting a big chunk of the next transfer fee.

The move to Dortmund was perfect for him, and I’m hopeful we’ll sign him in a few years.

there was a good article on the Athletic about Haaland

Dortmund have been watching him and meeting with him for a long time. They did the groundwork with him.

Solskjaer - having worked with him before puzzled me a little. Did he not spot the potential at Molde?

it pains me to say Haaland probably did the right thing for his development

as for Raiola we know his plans. Haalsnd will probably get 2/3 more moves in his career.

United need to wake up if they think they can do business without getting in bed with greedy agents. This isnt 1997 with Paul Scholes walking in to renew without an agent.

and the Glazers can feck off about being righteous- they are the RyanAir of football - we're shit on the pitch but have noodle partners and they would monetise anything they can get their greedy mitts on - feck off Glazers

...You're going to find fewer elite superstars signing long term contracts with clubs without exit clauses unless you offer them astronomical contracts. Players and their agents are not going to allow the transfer market to be dictated by £100m+ transfer fees, when the alternative is for them to absorb the income by carefully holding the balance of power by signing selective contracts.
Spot on. I think this going to be a trend and I can already see how many players refuse to extend their contracts in order to control their careers. Mind you, you’re going to have to be a top player in order to be able to get top clubs to accede to your demands.

For what it's worth this supposed 50mil release clause is purely a product of English media. Their German colleagues assume he has a clause, but that it's significantly higher.

His goals to minutes ratio is pretty sorted.

He hasn't even played 17 full games :wenger:

the two games I’ve seen in the Bundesliga the defending has been non existent. Like Sunday league defending but can’t deny the two bits of work for his goal’s. He was on the move for his first and seemed to know exactly where the ball was going to go before his team mate even struck it. The second one heck, probably 99.9% of coaches would tell you to wait for a team mate and play that in to the middle.

The speed at what he made up his mind with the confidence and accuracy to execute it was impressive. I know it was an open net but not easy to score from that angle with Defenders rushing back to the line.

That Sancho goal was something else.

It’s like Manchester United have to be a laughing stock in every situation.

Missed out on a player who cost just £17m, manager knows him and is friends with his father, then scores 5 goals in his first 60 minutes for the club.

You couldn’t even make it up. Mean while at Old Trafford we have one fit striker who has 8 goals in the Premier League all season.

You can only laugh at this point. The club would be much better off not making enemies of the super agents.

Ultimately, his agent works for him not the other way round. We clearly didn't do enough to persuade him we were the right move. It was Haalands choice, and it looks like the right one.

The most impressive thing for me about Haaland is he has so much drive and hunger for the game, and obviously isn't all about the money. I hope he goes on to smash many goal scoring records. It's exciting for world football, but a real missed opportunity for us.
Maybe he told Ole that he will see him in two years if he is still manager, and we can afford him.

Well the silver lining for me in this is that I feel we will never need to buy him. I feel we will have a world class striker in Greenwood and well can't have them all. Otherwise I wouldnt like this at all, Haaland is cleary great and it would have sucked that we missed out on him but being that we have Greenwood who I also expect to be great, we are fine. Its what it is. Cant have them all. Greenwood will likely have 10-15 goals in Premier League next year.

Not just that. Woodward Lies(tm) are potentially vastly more damaging to the club than usually discussed.

They're the equivalent of some high schooler getting dumped and then pulling the no-I-dumped-them-routine. That's all fine for about two minutes. But what happens when the truth gets out PLUS the fact that you tried to spin it the other way.

Woodward definitely looks stupid enough to not realize the ramifications of people in the footballing world snickering behind his back.

Ruthless finishing so far but Bundesliga clubs do love to play a suicidal highline, let's revisit this after few months time once teams have adjusted to his style.

Also, please wash off the scent of 'we didn't want to be held hostage, hence rejected him'. That's utter drivel and makes you look like a right tit. You see that Woodward PR whenever a player rejects us. He just chose a club who wouldn't pay as much as we would but have an environment where he'd significantly improve as a player, I can respect that.

Allure of Man Utd continues to lessen due to years of mis-management and we have reached a new low under a novice manager who has no pulling power or vision to sell to a player. Have no option but to see this phase out and hope club can sort it’s shit out over next few years.

We should probably be looking at this guy as well, Shon Weissman, stats just as good as Erling and without the Raiola circus, would probably cost only a fraction of the price and no release clause demand.

'stats just as good'

If he’s got a release clause and he’s really so good can we not just buy him in summer?

If he’s got a release clause and he’s really so good can we not just buy him in summer?

According to the Athletic, the clause is only activated towards the end of his contact:

"For the first time since the acrimonious departure of Mario Gotze to Bayern in 2013, Dortmund also had to insert a release clause in one of their player’s contracts. The fee is substantially higher than the £50 million figure quoted in the English press, however, and only becomes active towards the latter stages of Haaland’s four-and-a-half-year contract."
