Erling Haaland | Dortmund player

Harsh.. im sure joining Manchester United and becoming part of that history means something. Not that much but still worth a little.

However we have to be honest and admit that if you join Mnachester United right now you mostly do it for the money.

No, we are still a powerhouse. It’s okay though, you are entitled to have this opinion.

The player didn't want to join a mid-table team which is run badly and offers nothing for youth development. Get over it.
Not everyone in the world is dying to be here. Many players would rather be somewhere else. Some people still think this is 2010.

Horrible post which is totally made up.

1) United aren't mid table
2) United are the best club in England for youth development.

Based on the interview after the game, the main reason for going to BVB was due to them having really good attacking players that would create chances for him. From his point of view, it is understandable as a "poacher" to rather play with Sancho and Reus than Rashford and Martial. It is not about being a selling club, but more about the players and type of football you play.

I agree with that too & I think we can't shoot ourselves for not having the right players at the right time either.

That's why Ole said - Haaland had made his mind up where he wanted to go. Hopefully we get better players over the next 2-3 years & if Haaland keeps it up - seems like the last piece of the jigsaw type of player we need than someone we fit in to absolutely nothing at the moment.

No manager would change that right at the moment Haaland was going to leave.

So whilst it hurts that he is obviously a good young player - I can't start pointing guns at Ole or even Woodward - I just know Haaland had his mind settled to make the right decision in his mind though I do think Dortmund are a tad overrated as a progressive building club. Still a better move for that type of player than United at the moment, or City, or Liverpool.

Just finished watching the second half and he's definitely a good striker with elite movement, but Ausburg's defending was absolutely comical. I was surprised by how good his first touch was.

Are we? In what matric?

I know we used to have the most academy graduates playing in the PL, do you mean that?

There's that and there's our home grown record and there's the fact we have been giving minutes to Williams, Greenwood, James and you could say Mctominay this season.

If you're a young player and want an opportunity you have the best chance of that at United. Would have thought that didn't really need too much explaining?

The Bundesliga is wild. What a fan friendly league, even the shit teams bomb forward like mad men. Our league is so defensive compared.
Watching the Bundesliga this year it seems like every team employs a press with a high line. Even a team like Union Berlin was pressing Leipzig in the first half.

You said he was making his stuff up so I thought you had some actual facts to back up what you're saying, that's all.

I don't really think the bold is that true based on the last six years here, really. We are still pretty good for academy products (not as good as we used to be) but we haven't brought through a properly successful young prospect that we purchased (which is what Haaland would be) in the last decade. Martial is the closest and even he has question marks over him still.

How do you assume we'll be able to get him few years from now on ? I mean I have the same problems about Sancho and people assuming he's destined to come here at one point. Remember Griezmann ?

I don't think Sancho will come here though & I think that's because of Rashford being so good at LW whilst Hudson odoi is average for Chelsea.

He still does have a chance in coming here because we obviously wouldn't let a generational English talent out of our grasp and I think Abrahmovic isn't investing in Chelsea as he used to - so their is a chance but if he want to go to Chelsea he has the chance to compete for both spots whilst we can offer him only one.

All speculation with nothing verified. Unless of course you want to believe everything Ed wants you to believe to cover up their own incompetence. Excuses. We missed out on a talent.

Read back what you've just posted

Well is our record not fact?

Pretty good for academy products is also downplaying what the club does. Williams, Mctominay, Rashford are all first team regulars. You also have Greenwood who is getting plenty of minutes and Tuanzebe. So that's 5 academy players making up the first XI.

If you want to talk about young players in general we can add Wan Bissaka, James and at a push Martial to the list of those being given big breaks/opportunity at Old Trafford. That's 8 first team players. Who else does that by choice? Chelsea have had to give some opportunities out this season given their ban but United do this time after time.

We are not that great though, are we? We "give chance" to fair few young players but we are basically throwing them to the wolves instead of slowly easing them in. Also, complete lack of good coaching doesn't help improve as players. All the young players we signed in the last few years have also not improved here at all so I would say yeah, we are bad at youth development at this moment. Borussia is a perfect club for him right now to improve as a player and if I was in his place, I would have done the same.

Isn't it tiresome being this miserable?

If we play both Greenwood and Williams, then 4/10 outfield players in our strongest XI are from our own academy. That is pretty fecking good. And who have we thrown to the wolves? Rashford? Greenwood? Willaims? The former is en route to his best season yet and has taken massive strides this year and the latter two have been used sparingly but still gained loads of confidence and experience this year and have grabbed their chances with both arms

I really wish we could have bought him, but considering the buyout clause his fat arse agent insisted on it would have been a bad move.

Come on, listing AWB, James, Greenwood, Williams. It's a bit too early for that.

And I agreed that our record of academy graduates is good compared to others. But we seriously haven't bought a young, talented player in a donkeys age and turned them into a success story. Martial is the closest we have to it and anyone who thinks he's turned out to be what we thought he would be after his debut season is kidding themselves too. We really are not an attractive proposition for a young player looking to develop their game right now. I don't like to say it, but it's true.

That doesn't mean other big English clubs are either, in case you think that's what I'm saying.

Joined them before their winter break and he's still scored a hattrick before Ed's signed anyone!

I said it: The boy is a natural goal machine.
Dortmund said they wanted to get him in January as there is still a chance for titles this season and he could be the missing link.
Reus, Sancho, Hazard are providing great service but they struggled a bit with converting.

I really hoped that Ole would have been at least useful to get him.

Nah sorry totally disagree. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion but I don't see it backed up with anything other than your opinion.

De Gea?

Tell you what having just seen all the goals, Augsburgs as well. If defending was as bad as both teams were today Lingard would be banging in the goals. Some of it was ridiculous.

2 very good finishes and one tap in.

forgetting DDG was a blunder, fair example.

I'm not sure how it's just opinion. Look at our major signings of young players since Ronaldo and Rooney and tell me the majority of them weren't duds? De Gea and to a lesser extent Nani and Martial are the only ones you could label successful, really.

But that's the exact same for most big clubs these days and that's why more and more players like Haaland and Sancho are choosing clubs like Dortmund when they're young to develop before moving to us or another big club.

I didn't realize that they changed the rules on January signings, so he will be able to knock PSG out of the CL as is customary in the round of 16.

Well how many young players do we buy? I'd argue not as many (until recently) as we develop more of our own. You can't just look at it in a lopsided way.

The fact is United give young players opportunities and have continued to do so at arguably one of our toughest times. I'm not sure how you can argue against me on this.

Why would we want to compare ourselves with clubs that are worst than us?

Youth coming off from academy and making into the first team regularly is a remarkable achievement in itself.
But I am talking about producing talents that clubs across the world would want to acquire. Our club youth system does not have a reputation of making such talents. I don't really think non-English talents really lookup to our club and think this is the place I want to be to develop.

I'm pretty confident that many clubs would want Greenwood and Rashford.

Who have Dortmund produced?

They mainly give youth a chance mainly to players they buy in.

This fecking club is run by idiots. This guy is gold even Stevie Wonder could fecking see that.

He has a £60m release fee in his contract that is active from May 2022. People like you moaning now would have been even worse had we got him and then lost him after 2 years to Madrid, Barca or even City or Pool. We'd have been helpless to stop it too.

Haaland starting where he left off,by scoring goals for fun.
New country, new league, new team mates, doesnt seem to matter for this guy.

People blaming Ole for us not getting him are totally lost.
The only reason we had a slim chance of signing him at all,was because of Ole (and a huge salary)
In the end, that was not enough and he went to Dortmund which seems to be a very good choice so far.

Nah.

I wanted us to sign him.

But for once the club got it right.

What's the point in developing a player for two years and then be at the mercy of a buyout clause?

Don't worry guys, the money is in the bank for Ole to use. It will probably remain there cause the prices/conditions are rarely right.

Because.. it's a forum and I disagree?

Look, I still think we're a really attractive proposition for players despite what some say, but I can see why, based on our (lack of) success with signing players of a similar age and reputation to Haaland in the last decade, that players like him would be reluctant to come here over say, Dortmund, who have done an incredible job with young players they buy, in contrast.

And people think Greenwood's the better player.

In all seriousness, Greenwood would have made an absolute mockery of those defenders given the same space.

If you were scouting him for the first time you'd report back that the signs were very positive but you'd need to seem him play a game against an actual defence before you could give any sort of opinion.
