Erling Haaland | Dortmund player

I hope he does well, it’s a good start!
We’d have never accepted a player with a release clause, not a chance.

From VG.

Shit translation: "When my father and I made the decision to join this club, we knew that they had players that could play me through, it's an extremely high level and were playing well together already " says Haaland and gives special mentions to Sancho, Hazard and Reus.

He could have had Lingard, Pereira and Mata feeding him. Oh well, it's his loss...

The player didn't want to join a mid-table team which is run badly and offers nothing for youth development. Get over it.
Not everyone in the world is dying to be here. Many players would rather be somewhere else. Some people still think this is 2010.

It's just a temporary move for him, he'll be here within 3 years... :nervous:
Well, he´s only 19 and probably hasn´t sign his last contract. If Ole is still here in 1-2 years time, United would be in the competition. There were rumours that Haaland wanted some sort of insurance that Ole would be in for long term before he signed any contact with United.

Harsh.. im sure joining Manchester United and becoming part of that history means something. Not that much but still worth a little.

However we have to be honest and admit that if you join Mnachester United right now you mostly do it for the money.

He'll have a better environment to develop at BVB then can move to Bayern who are a better position than us anyway. From the player's perspective it's a no brainer let's be honest, the original poster is right.

Why did anyone join Liverpool prior to last season? Why does anyone join Spurs? Arsenal?

Because they are not Man Utd. They are other clubs and players want to be there. This isn't the 1920's.

Yes, he made the right choice for his career. Cant argue against that. Perfect situation for him to develop, play CL, 'challenge' for the league and have great players behind him to create chances.

Klopp, Anfield, money and after that history. Spurs and Arsenal have living as London as bonus too.

If you are not a fan and could earn somewhere else just as much or slightly less than at Manchester United, i can understand choosing for a smaller club like Dortmund. Europa League, Ole, the squad lacking quality and board mismanagement for years arent great selling points for joining Manchester United.

Of course he is, Ms Negative Nancy.

Btw, he did say he wanted to come to the EPL someday, so a move to Bayern isn't set in stone at all.

And why are you replaying to me and not the original poster who said we're a mid-table club, or is he a Mr.Positive ?

The important thing is that we secured the moral high ground by telling his agent where to go and I, for one, am delighted we didn't sign this relentless goal scoring machine.

why wont he score a hattrick when they give him so much space.

Good on him though given its his debut. I wish we were more persuasive when we were after him.

One of Ole biggest failure at United. How he wasn’t able to lure him is a big warning sign for any United supporters. It is obvious this kid is talented and Ole’s connection and also managing one of the biggest club in the world!!.......This is a sackable offense. I will not forgive Ole for this.

The club quite rightly refused Raiola's insistence of a release clause. Unless you want a player who can leave for a derisory fee in 2 years time?

Well well looks like we missed out on someone who will be RVN/Henry/RVP caliber for the next decade or so.
Just our luck.

Silver lining. We just might have that caliber of a player in Greenwood at that position so oh well.
Would have been a much bigger blow if Halland played any other position.

As well as the release clause thing people seem to forget that apparently they wanted guaranteed hours and Ole with Martial, Rashford and Greenwood couldn’t guarantee as much playtime as Haaland wanted.
Haaland went to a place that could give him playing time as first choice where he can also move on from in a year or two.

The kid generally made a sensible career choice hardly anything to hang Ole over.

Why wouldn’t we? We still make a profit and we might accomplish something in the time he stays here. Moreover, it is not guaranteed that he will leave in 2 years time. The player, agent and his family are more important factors of him leaving in two years than his release clause. He could stay here for 10 years if he loved it here so much and we are in good terms with his agent and family.

As I mentioned before, how we missed out on him is inexcusable and shows poor management and leadership at this club. When pointing out a list of negative about Ole, this one definitely comes on that list as we showed interest and even had our coaches went into advance talk, only to refuse because of that stipulation.

All speculation with nothing verified. Unless of course you want to believe everything Ed wants you to believe to cover up their own incompetence. Excuses. We missed out on a talent.

Had he came here and scored for fun you'd be looking at a 150-200m player in 2 years time with a release clause of 50m - you think that's a good position for the club to be in? You think if Real Madrid came in for him we'd have any chance of keeping him?

Or we let Dortmund have him for now and get him later, have him for his prime years possibly where he thinks about staying for long terms rather than moving with the intention of moving again?

It seemed like Haaland wanted to move to Dortmund anyway due to the type of club they are - they are a selling club that gives chances to their players to improve before doing just that. Im okay without us having to be that.

If he does that well and he loves it at the club, why would he want to leave for Real Madrid? Haland doesn’t appear to have the characteristic of Tevez or Balotelli. If he had come, I m quite sure he would have accepted a renewed, more lucrative contract that benefits both United and him.

Why would we want to compare ourselves with clubs that are worst than us?

Youth coming off from academy and making into the first team regularly is a remarkable achievement in itself.
But I am talking about producing talents that clubs across the world would want to acquire. Our club youth system does not have a reputation of making such talents. I don't really think non-English talents really lookup to our club and think this is the place I want to be to develop.

That's just pure guess work.

He clearly was worked around by agent work and that will happen again in the future.

Same reason every player goes to Real Madrid, they're the biggest club in the world and provide better chance of winning multiple trophies than us

No one can predict the future, but I prefer my plan rather than the one where he develops at Dortmund and we are fighting with the likes of Madrid, Bayern, etc. for his signature later on.

What's the difference? Loose him to Madrid for a derisory fee or compete with them for his signature? I'd rather compete with them and miss out than forced to sell him to them and be bent over in the process

This. People bemoaning the drop in standards insisting we should be happy to be a farmer club absolutely boggles my mind.

The Bundesliga is wild. What a fan friendly league, even the shit teams bomb forward like mad men. Our league is so defensive compared.

The difference is that on one side, we have a very small chance to land Haland. While on the other side, we land Haland but with a slight possibility that he could leave for small amount later after bringing us back where we should be. The latter seems more reasonable than the former. If he does leave, we still get a profit and give the likes of Greenwood a better path to regular first team football. We are one injury away with MMM(M3) from being toothless in the attack and having another season of Europa league football. Haland will be a great addition at the moment to this team

Stop talking absolute shite. Mid table team and offers nothing for youth development. Of all the horse shit I've read on this site, those two statements are probably the worst.

Reality is we're not a top top club anymore and Haaland would've helped us get closer to where we should be. We really should have signed him.

Based on the interview after the game, the main reason for going to BVB was due to them having really good attacking players that would create chances for him. From his point of view, it is understandable as a "poacher" to rather play with Sancho and Reus than Rashford and Martial. It is not about being a selling club, but more about the players and type of football you play.

We are not that great though, are we? We "give chance" to fair few young players but we are basically throwing them to the wolves instead of slowly easing them in. Also, complete lack of good coaching doesn't help improve as players. All the young players we signed in the last few years have also not improved here at all so I would say yeah, we are bad at youth development at this moment. Borussia is a perfect club for him right now to improve as a player and if I was in his place, I would have done the same.

How do you assume we'll be able to get him few years from now on ? I mean I have the same problems about Sancho and people assuming he's destined to come here at one point. Remember Griezmann ?

He'll just move the goalposts and say he's too expensive in a couple of years from now.
