Erik ten Hag vs Sancho | Sancho back in full training

Zero chance of that though.

Becoming a big impact sub would be progress though unsure if it warrants insisting on that collaboration further than next summer.

Or maybe off field issues might make the RW position a little more open. :nervous:

ETH is explaining why Sancho didn’t make the squad. Perfect valid reason. Sancho on the other hand is being a diva, instead of taking this as a message to get himself together an improve his performances: mentally weak lad.
Seems like Ole Gunnar had a special talent collecting players like this.
Leaving one of the highest paid players completely out of the matchday squad speaks for itself. Unless people want the manager to lie about the player being ill or something there's really no way to pretend like it's not related to training or performance.
Remember when Ragnick or Ole tried to lie like that about Lingard? And Lingard tweeted that he absolutely was not ill.

Lying would not have necessarily prevented petulant response from Sancho, it would just catch Erik in a verifiable lie. Manager has all the right to say that he is not satisfied by player's performance. Sancho was bang out of order to tweet that shit message and accuse him of favoritism

He has previous for being late to training, missing team meetings with City, England and Dortmund.

I remember Dortmund dropping him for a key game after he returned late from international duty. I'm absolutely backing the manager here. He has no reason to lie or shoot himself in the foot like that.
I don’t know is anyone actually thinking ETH is making this up. It’s more whether it was appropriate to call him out. What’s the benefit of ten Hag telling the media that one of our players isn’t training well.

Ten Hag should absolutely drop Sancho and even sell him if he’s not willing to give his all. But after a lousy match he could have just not added more fuel to the tabloids fire and said he was carrying a knock.

How long before there’ll be stories of dressing room splits and player unrest. Paper never refuses ink when it comes to United.

Nope, he was competing for 4 forward substitute places with 3 other players - Hojlund, Pellistri and Garnacho. And was so shit in training the manager picked an extra midfield youth player over him. £72m signing, £350k a week, and can theoretically play in any of the front 4 positions. Ousted by Hannibal and Gore for an away game against Arsenal despite being fully fit. It's utterly embarrassing and a dire indictment on his effort levels and attitude.

Lets be completely honest, he was never getting picked ahead of Hojlund for the CF sub spot (and if he was the knives would be out for ETH saying why buy him if we weren't going to pick him etc). What I said stands for Gore and Hannibal - its not beyond anyones imagination that Eriksen might need to be subbed off later in the game as we have seen countless times before, or that Casemiro might get carded, and Sancho wouldnt be getting put on as a CM would he?

Essentially whats happened here is that there are 2 sub spots for wingers and 3 players for them in Garnacho, Pellistri, and Sancho - someone has to miss out and its not a huge stretch to think that ETHs tactics for Arsenal favour speedier players which meant that Sancho sat this one out, or the other 2 just simply showed more in training which is what was essentially said.

For it to turn from that to the vitriol we have had for 27 pages (and counting) kind of proves the point I was making in my OP. Especially since at no time did ETH or Sancho even say anything negative about the other or the team!

I just hope Saudi club sign him or club him to a club that is willing to start him so we can recoup the funds we paid. He has nothing in his locker that can unlock Premier League. Just a poor poor buy from Ole. ETH made the same mistake with Antony.

Another woodward classic of giving this guy £350k per week, when he still had it all to prove in the game. FFS.

Yeah. Giving this salary to Lingard's best buddy who already had history of being called out for not trying hard enough in training was a ticking time bomb and when you think about it how things have turned out for Sancho at United is not as surprising as it probably should be.

We have already get rid of Lingard, Henderson, Pogba and Ronaldo. It seems we still have problematic characters like Sancho and Maguire to get rid next window.

I don't think he is going anywhere , the club leaked it enough times during the summer that they were wiling to sell him and no other club has showed any interest.

People pinning their hopes on the Saudi's coming in for him , but even they are not showing any interest.

Our squad is not stacked with proven quality so he will still get chances here , but nothing he shown so far suggests he can make it at Utd.

Is Maguire problematic ? I know people slotted him as arrogant but he's available and coming on pitch when called. I don't think he slagged United really, even with the most negative reading of what he says he had to prove or not. I don't think he's overtly happy about his position and maybe that will come out after he leaves, but he stayed well within the bounds of the sort of correctness expected here.

Like Pep multiple times last season, like ETH with Rashford and Garnacho?
Like Fergie did with Rooney multiple times?

Your quoting probably 2 of the most successful managers in history, you can do that when you have credit at the club in your back pocket.

We can’t sell players as proven this window so he’ll still be here in 2 years time and it’s another player we’ve probably made a loss on. Shouldn’t accept less than 50 for him though. He’s still young and will be decent for certain teams

Yep although sad thing is, in both cases this was the obvious outcome for a full season before now.

The Antony comparisons are absolutely laughable and a shite stick some of you anti ETH are using in this very thread.

Antony has a fantastic attitude in terms of workrate and is showing slight inprovements game on game, but end product can be fixed, Sanchos attitide seemingly cant.

Plus Sancho has showed basically nothing in 2 seasons here. Antony has showed flashes of potential.

Maybe.

I guess I just feel like Sancho is ahead of Antony technically.

That's the end for Jadon and by posting that message he obviously knows it. £60mill from Saudi?
Nobody is buying him with his shit performances, horrible attitude, and on £350k/week salary.

Not even Saudi.

Sancho is no Neymar and Saudis are not idiots. Sancho is only football royalty in his head. He's done nothing to be that or for anybody to think of him like that. Not to mention that most these Saudi teams have managers from Europe, why would any of them want to deal with somebody like Sancho?

Irrelevant if he’s a passenger OOP. ETH wants to create the best side in the world in transition - that includes defensive ones - and Sancho plays with zero intensity. Rashford gets away with it because he puts up huge numbers and offers great intensity running in behind - Sancho isn’t good enough to justify it.

I think it's a tool that managers can use, but only sparingly. Some people do need a (mild) kick in the butt to react. I think EtH was as soft as he could making that statement.
Maybe they'll have the proper discussion about it between four eyes this morning and that'd be that.

Big Harry is far from problematic, which is one of his (few) positives IMO. He's accepted his fall from grace, plays when called upon and has not kicked up a fuss like Ronalod or Sancho.

Added to that he's at least had some good performances and has actually tried his best, unlike a nothing player like Sancho. There's been absolutely nothing to like about his stint at United at any point.

And rightly so.

Taking shot at his "talented teammates" now. Pathetic. And by the way, Antony's shortcomings are well established but out of possession you cannot accuse him of not working for the team. He's tactically way way way more important than Sancho.

If by a lot you mean twice ever. Then yep. Loads. You're just like Jadon. Spacegoated.
Funny quip to finish but not really relevant to this thread again. Shouldn’t you be moderating such behaviour. . .

Woe is me

Utterly unacceptable statement from Sancho. We may never find out what happened last season but ETH and the club seemed to go above and beyond to protect him, which was good. To put this statement out 30 minutes after a painful defeat is shows poor judgement and poor attitude. He should never play for the club again in my opinion. That may may seem harsh to some but if it was SAF there would not even be a footprint left where he stood.

Antony has at least been consistent at the level he’s at and offers workrate, the effort is there, even if he’s technically limited. Bin this Bloke now if we’re going to have his people talking shite in the media, it was bad enough when someone the level of Ronaldo did it, at least he’s achieved stuff in the game.

Antony does get shown favouritism.

If football was 100% about what you do with the ball at your feet, yes.

But look at how many times he won the ball back or stopped an attack last night. Nothing to do with favouritism really, it's all work rate.

And rightly so.

Awww diddums. Maybe it's because Antony trains harder and works defensively?

It's not what we paid 80 million for but it's better than you jogging around the park mate. You score nothing AND you don't defend.

Staggering that there are people out there who watch football regularly and can’t see how much more useful Antony is to the team than Sancho. They wouldn’t know a good performance if it smacked them in the face.

Does he ?
Sancho was here a year before and had much room to cement his place. Antony might be a laborious type so far but his workrate might also better enable some other players to be a wee lax, and Rashford certainly is often showing on the field why he's top of the pecking order.
I know it's a little trite but it's on him to prove he can claw back his way into the squad.

agree with this, if Sancho was training and playing well he would have a place at the very least on the bench. I'm 100% with ETH here. The club needs to back whatever ETH wants to do here, otherwise we will be rewinding back to the last Ole and Ralf season and the same old nonsense from certain players.

The way I understand it, the club had big losses in 2020 that hindered their ability to spend this year without violating FFP rules. We'll be 3 years removed from the end of the 20/21 season on July 1st, 2024, so there will be a lot more room to take the FFP hit of dumping Maguire, Sancho and van de Beek for whatever someone will pay for them.

He’s not even been better on the ball than Antony. He’s got a better eye for a creative pass and is probably a better finisher but Antony is far superior at carrying the ball up the pitch. He’s also much stronger and more difficult to win the ball off. Until Hojlund joined he was probably the best player we have at hold up play. Sancho gets pushed over by a gentle breeze.

So it's Antony's fault for the last 12 months...how about the season before that?

Who was to blame then?

I like Antony (as a footballer…) a lot but I’d say Sancho is definitely much better in attacking transitions. It isn’t something Antony is very good at. If it’s a 4 on 3 I’d far rather sancho have the ball than Antony.

An example of the kind of player we need to get out of the club. We should try and get rid of him in January to a Saudi team.
