Already 2 years ago, right after he had been hired as our manager, Ten Hag answered a question about possibly being reunited with Overmars at Ajax in the future like this:
“That’s a romantic thought,” the 51-year-old told De Telegraaf. “We’ve have been very successful together. It’s hard to say it’s happening, but it certainly could.”

A romantic thought, heh?

Last week, he spoke to Voetbal International and backed Overmars again with some strong words:
“I stand firm that I find it a disgrace the way Marc Overmars has been treated,’ Ten Hag said. “The departure of Marc Overmars killed Ajax at the time. And from club perspective it was really stupid to throw him under the bus straight away.”

Our manager calling it a disgrace that a serial sexual harrasser gets fired.. what are the cafs thoughts on ETH's continuing bromance with Overmars?
Can we deduce from it which position he takes on a Greenwood return?

Daft comments to make publicly. I am sure he knows a lot more than we all do about the details of what went on behind the scenes, but from everything we know, it was pretty bad. So it’s an odd cause to take up. He’s also the manager of Manchester United, so representative of our organisation, and as such I’m not comfortable with him publicly lobbying on behalf of someone fired for serial sexual harassment.

Increasingly stupid, the more I think about it.

The problem is that Overmars was never fired. He left himself and for now there is only one case of him sending an inappropriate picture and the victim had been in contact with him for years so we still really don't know what exactly happened there.

Well, to him it's "football first".

Don't be surprised if Ten Hag is willing to take Greenwood back.

It certainly is strange that he addresses it at all.

But, perhaps he's talking about FIFA extending his 1 year ban from football and not just how he left Ajax. Just seems strange that FIFA would decide to turn the Dutch ban into a worldwide ban. Especially when you see players still playing every week when they've been accused of much worse.

We know he was willing to bring Greenwood back.

Because we know the club's original plan, headed by Arnold, was to announce him being reintegrated into the squad. And I'm pretty sure ETH confirmed when asked prior to that that he was consulted on it and had given his opinion.

The double speak and cognitive dissonance in this thread will be entertaining, at least.

Women, I stand with you, let's get this sexist out of our club. DM me and we can talk more about it or maybe go for a drink.

The reports last summer indicated that he did.

As you indicate, the new Overmars comments are largely in keeping with his football first mentality. Personally, I don't agree with it but a lot of these decisions should be made and owned by the club, nor do I really have much interest in his personal views.

Yeah he's shown consistently he's not that aligned with a lot of fans morally.

It's not a great look tbh.

He was prepared to integrate him last summer

he’s a horrible judge of character or has questionable morals himself. I choose to believe the former.

not a great look either way for our great club

I wish he went after bad ref decisions with the same amount of energy

I know this is going to get turned into a Ten Hag out vs in debate, and anyone expressing an opinion on whether the comments are fine or daft is going to be automatically labelled a Ten Hag loyalist or traitor, but can we not do that?

On face value I think it’s daft, to come out in support of an alleged serial sexual harasser, but on the other hand, I will freely admit that I am not up to speed on the finer details of that scandal.

I might think he should be fired as our manager because of performances, but it has nothing to do with this incident. I formed that opinion based on results and performances alone. Despite what I think about how the team has played, I’m not prepared to drag his character through the mud in the hope I get the outcome I want. That’s just wholly indecent, unless there is justification to do so.

Can someone rational please give us an impartial view of the whole Overmars scandal, so we can actually judge his comments on their merits, rather than our preference for manager?

Overmars sent pictures and sexually explicit messages to female colleagues without consent. Even reported he verged on ‘stalking’ behaviour towards one particular colleague who wasn’t agreeing with his advances. He was then forced to resign. Ten Hag had a great working relationship with him and felt that his footballing merit should have kept him in the job. Someone who was their most successful ever sporting director should have been given some leeway.

Really stupid comments. He has to realise these are not appropriate to say as manager of our club.

So would you call Ten Hag all sort of names like you regulary do with posters in Greenwood and other threads where people don't agree with you on moral stances?

Or are you still glad we have this sort of person as our manager?

Is there - perhaps - a difference between Greenwood and ETH actions? Maybe a slight slight slight difference?

Oh ffs - he really would bring Greenwood back in a heartbeat, wouldn't he?

Ultimately it will not be his call. The club is still in the process of end of season review. The final call will be made for manager position, Greenwood, signings and etc. We may not know what he actually think.

Sticking up for his mate and what he believes in. I don’t agree with it but I don’t think it’s a massive issue in terms of being Ten Hag in or out. I’d understand more if he backed Greenwood, because if he can reintegrate him it makes his squad better, which is all that matters to a football manager whose job depends on results.
