Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

This is the guy we need to be all over if we ever replace Solskjær, there’s something about Dutch and German managers… they know how to play football the right way.

Find it so silly that people keep going on about the way he speaks, the Dutch media would only talk about this when he just arrived at Ajax.

There is nothing he can do about it, he's clearly an intelligent man, a very decent guy who rarely or never misbehaves. Just silly.

Half of the people couldnt even understand Fergie cause of his accent, just move on.

The press would absolutely eat him alive in England. It doesn't matter what he can do about it, but it makes him unsuited to be a Utd manager. Most outlets hate United there, it's a very big contrast to Holland where most outlets are pro Ajax.

It won't help him indeed if the results are bad, but when he gets results no-one will make a point out of it.. It's the same in NL right, when the results were bad the media made an issue of it, when the results are great you hear no-one about it..

The major challenges I think will be whether arrived top players will 'accept' his managerial style, because he demands a lot of player and it quite 'eigenwijs' (not sure what the correct word is in English), and whether the board will give him proper time to implement his ideas of football. Because he wíll change things and it wíll take time.. For the players to get used to him as a person/manager and his playing style..

No it doesnt make him unsuited to be an United manager. It's stupid and they shut up about it as soon as they realised how good of a manager he is. LvG was horrible in that regard too, and also entertaining but I dont think it influenced him in any way, he was not the right fit for us.

Clearly that interview is also not a serious one by the way, his german interview gives a fair reprentation of how he can present himself.

But does he like the country or culture? "heh-heh".

The LVG comparisons aren't apt btw. Vangle has charisma, this man has zero. Good manager though, I think he best fits Bayern but he'll probably take over from Pep unless Nagelsmann flops.

But winning over players, building trust, earning yourself some patience is also a lot about finding the right words.

LvG has loads of charisma. He does it in a slightly deranged way, but he's a character. And the interview in German from his Bayern II days doesn't really look like a supporting piece of evidence for Ten Hag.

I'm glad that he didn't decide he wanted to reinvent the wheels this season. Usually he'd try something new every season, which would inevitably fail and see him return the good old working tactic.

If he'd improve his ability to make the correct subs he'd be a great manager.

Do you feel like he hasnt at Ajax? I think the whole squad loves him whilst I remember the younger players saying that they too had to laugh when they heard him speak when he just arrived.

Ajax even has a lot of non-Dutch players in Alvarez, Martinez, Onana, Nico, Tadic, Haller, Neres, Antomy relatively. Whom he would have to speak English with on a personal level, I think it is a non-issue which most decent human beings get over, which luckily seems to have been the case in his career so far.

You know much better than me what's going on at Ajax. I'm just talking about possible risks at a new club.

Definitely true, but I dont think there is an issue there necessarily, as you hear nothing but praise from players from different backgrounds at Ajax. Don't forget English is the main language at Ajax during all match preperations etc because there are a lot of non-Dutch players.

The critique against his presentation mostly comes from how he talks to the media, which is an absolute non-argument as long as the players are happy with him. It can only be a tricky thing when the results arent there and the media are constantly mocking him for his presentation at that point (which they dont do when the results are there), which can be a factor in building up external pressure. Still, if you hava a solid confident organization like Ajax has for the last couple of years, the organization will be blind/deaf to irrelevant arguments like that.

They only thing is thats a questionmark whether arrived top players like Bruno, Pogba, Cristiano, etc will be able the accept/cope with his high demanding coaching style.

I think certainly Bruno and Cristiano would love him. Ten Hag is a decent man, good man manager but crazy about the sport like Guardiola is without being a crazy man. Bruno and Cristiano are probably the most demanding players in our squad who do anything to win.

That being said, I hope Ole shows he is the long term manager for United this season despite alk the doubts surrounding him.

Feels like this guy is destined to take over from Pep. We should do everything we can to poach him at the end of the season if Ole doesn't pan out and hope Pep stays for another year. Such contrast from our football :(

one Pep Guardiola is my idol for another :wenger:

If we become champions once more this year and survives the group stages of the CL he will be rated as one of the greatest Ajax managers ever, and very rightfully so..

Too be fair the poster said they play the right way, LVG did play the right way was just awful at executing it
Personally I think LVGs style is out of date especially for the PL. awful football and awful state he left us in. I won’t hear a good word about him

Well that might be true the replacing him with Jose was the worst decision ever. LVG played possession based football and while he failed instead of getting a manager who does the same we go the opposite and hire Jose.
It just showed how the Club had no identity or style

Plenty of clubs have done that and have been doing just fine , our problems are just that we have been failing in recruitment both in terms of managers as well as the players.

But City and Liverpool have done that and yes the likes of Chelsea haven’t the difference is they are happy to sack quick which we are not.

Survives your group stage? You dominated two out of three of your opponents. And your league form is ridiculous.

They look good don’t they and the impressive thing is this is nowhere near the quality of the Ajax SF team a few years ago yet as a team they play as well.

You think he will be tempted to take on a massive club (I mean in one of the top 4 leagues) after this season?
How good is he in changing styles/formations and in-game management?

I’m not a Ajax fan but I think any top club should take him he is one of the best around for me. He can mix it up tactically and the football he plays is good but the most impressive thing for me is his adjusting too the opposition in game

Been linked with Bayern (before Nagelsmann went), Barca and Spurs (lol). Safe to bet he will be going to a pretty big club once he leaves Ajax.

They are risky jobs though Barca are in bad shape and Spurs are well Spurs

Always said he should be the man for us, if we where ever in the market for a manager.

Ticks the boxes

I will never overcome his numpty factor. I'm a sucker for people who can express themselves well. Who cares how his team plays.

I was reading that he interviewed at Spurs and they weren’t too keen on his communication skills or his potential backroom staff. Looks like their loss just now.

Juanfield should be a good word said about him.

It is a weird take to say the style is out of date, considering how dominant City and Pep are. LVGs issue was his execution was too rigid and led to a stale version, much in the same way Jose might have been able to coach a perfect low block with dangerous counter team, but another coach trying the same method just ends up parking the bus and playing hoof ball to nobody.

What LVG did show is how effective coaching can make even the Smalling's of this world adept at keeping possession.

That very much sounds like them protecting themselves after he turned them down.

I mean it links with what the Dutch poster above @KirkDuyt has said. Maybe it's an actual concern?

He looks like someone who we should consider. By no means am I saying he’s a dead cert for success, but he has a very good background and has a better on-paper record than OGS in terms of trophies won and whatnot.

But I’m sure people will be yelling ‘hipster’ and ‘flavor of the month’ as we keep along with OGS… and I’m not necessarily bashing OGS for that but OGS has had time and money to do his thing and there doesn’t seem to be any signs of improving the cyclical erratic form we’ve been experiencing in his time here.

Too many people on this board still make excuses for the absolute shit show that he served up.
Keeping possession and endlessly recycling is not my idea of football and certainly not a fit for this league. As far as I remember we went down in goals scored and chances created during his time.
I hate that he completely turned me off football during his period
as I said his style is out of date

I only watched the highlights from Ajax’s game yesterday so this is not a very informed opinion, but some of their approach play around the box and movement was fantastic.

Talking isnt the easiest thing for him. He doesnt look entirely comfortable in front of a camera (much more than when he just arrived) and he also has quite a strong accent.

Other than that, a very decent, likeable man that doesn't do crazy things and seems obsessed with football. He says insightful things during his press-conferences, implements youth and has really worked on a style of play, identifying player qualities. Those that go on about his camera-career, are most likely the OGS-guys and that's exactly what they deserve.

And it was non stop in the first half especially. Every time they had the ball there was alot of off the ball movement. They broke down a low block with ease and certainty

I am such a sucker for short passes and movement in tight spaces. Goals like Fred’s vs Tottenham and Nani’s vs City in the community shield a century ago are my favourite but are pretty rare at United.
