Although it ultimately didn’t work out (which is a big shame) I wish him well at his next job, wherever it is. He’s definitely not a detestable character.

If you put the clearing of shite players down to him then you must highlight Antony, Casemiro, Onana, Mount, Amrabat ... This is why I specifically didn't mention transfers.

Being a decent man isn't something to be measured about. It should be the given.

Strange that you put our best performing player of this season in that list?

Apparently bought in to help us pass from the back but didn't see that last season (I've barely seen any games this season), and not worth 50m.

In the same boat, sure he demonstrated professionalism but he wasn't fired for anything other than lacking competence to do his job at a level that's acceptable at the size of United.

It's like having a timely and well mannered handyman who's subsequently ineffective for the purpose he / she was hired.
That's a great comparison. If that handyman is a nice, well-intentioned person, then you're unhappy about the outcome, but might very well also feel sorry for them and hope they'll find something they're better at - like simpler jobs or just one aspect of the trade.

Just like people are doing here for Ten Hag.

He maintained his reputation for setting up to win knock-out, could be an excellent international manager in time. I wonder where he’ll pitch up next, perhaps Germany.

He's an absolute shite in-game manager and tactician, a questionable man-manager and got a shit eye for talent. He also comes across an arrogant dickhead with the charisma of a wet napkin.

No way Germany would take him, I'm fairly certain even Netherlands wouldn't.

Germany are stacked in terms of managers so unless the entire DFB goes on a cocaine binge and decide to torpedo the german national team for the lulz, they won't touch this fraud with a barge pole.

I don't get the love for EtH, brought one trophy of note at the expense of our league standing. Looked clueless for the most part and broke all records.

Yeah a statement written by a PR person doesn't really make me feel any warmer towards him

He was very much not a likeable character. All of Ole, Mourinho (pre third season) and LVG were much more likeable characters than him.

If he's such a good coach, why was he so baffling with his tactics here? What happened?
Let's see what happens next. I never quite understood why ETH was called "still a good coach" despite no evidence to support this, at least after the Carabao Cup win. Was he really a better coach than Ole? Not in my eyes, Ole made us play better football with worse squad than what ETH had at his disposal in my view.

He had a "good coach" reputation from Ajax, what saved him from some scrutiny, but I ain't buying it until I see him successful in the next serious club.

I really rated him at the start and thought he will be our best manager post SAF. Apparently I was wrong.
It will be interesting to see if his career will take a serious nose dive after managing us, like all our previous managers, except Rangnick, who is doing well right now.

I just meant a German club. Long-term I think he may manage internationally, countries like Switzerland or even Belgium.

Harsh but fair.

BTW regarding having a shite eye for talent, it just amazes like he didn't give a real chance to Álvaro Carreras. I just saw full Benfica match yesterday, where he as LB was MoM again. And I'm not even claiming he would be the best thing since sliced bread at United but with all the problems United had at the left side, not even giving a chance was criminal. Carreras looks like he will turn into a very good player. Hate praising Benfica players but have to be honest

We were a terrible side for close to 19 months. That's the worst form demonstrated by any previous United coach in the post Sir Alex era. I hope for his sake be returns to his winning Ajax formula because feck we were terrible using whatever the feck he attempted here.

Got us two cup wins and our reward was 19 months of crap PL and European form. Glorious.

Still can't get over how long we played the wide open, end to end 'chaos ball'. Seemingly he didn't have an issue with us facing 30 shots per game.

This is what I don't get. People tried to excuse it but that isn't the sign of a good coach. It's chaotic football which didn't seem well coached at all.

You underplay his successes unfairly.

He won 2 domestic trophies and took us to another final. He bought us CL football in his first season. He’s cleared quite a lot of unloved players from the squad and brought through Garnacho, Kobbie, Amass, Collyer, and bought in quality young players like De Ligt, Ugarte, Zirkzee and Hojlund.
He dealt decisively with the Ronaldo and Sancho fall outs.
There is plenty of good Erik has done for the club, but you don’t want to see it or acknowledge it.
On top of that he is a thoroughly decent man, a football obsessive who always strived for the club, he did his best and always acted with class and dignity. There is no shame in coming up short ultimately and all the hate and negativity toward him is unwarranted and frankly pathetic.
Remember that embarassing 0-3 home defeat?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. There's a lot that went on during that time. We loaned him out in January of last season with an option to buy. At that time Shaw was already playing/very close to returning and ETH was promised that Malacia would also be back by February. This was also the reason why we sent back Reguilon.

Having two full backs ahead of him meant Alvaro wouldn't get the regular gametime he needed to progress. He wouldn't be starting ahead of Shaw if he was fit. It's just our shit luck that Shaw got injured again in Feb and Malacia had a botched surgery which meant we ended up in this situation with no fit left backs.

I can see him becoming Crystal Palace manager if they don't start picking up results.

Yeah, there was the best period we’ve had in the last 10 years (December 22 - March 23) and two domestic cups. The City final last season was the best moment we’ve had in the last 10 years.

However, we’ve never had such a prolonged period of being a really poor side. March 2023 - October 2024 you could genuinely count the number of good performances on one hand. That’s quite remarkable levels of shit. Even Liverpool 2010-12 or Arsenal 2019-2021 had some better performances over a similar period of time (whilst also winning domestic cups) and weren’t just getting mugged off so easily. He basically oversaw what I consider to be the worst PL era of our history.

Who knows it might get worse, but genuinely if it got any worse this season we’d be in a relegation scrap. It has been that bad. His reputation is such that I doubt he’ll get a job at another big club.

Something tells me you don't particularly like or rate Ten Haag.

Exactly my sentiment. Don’t think he’ll ever manage in the Premier League again, too.

I'd like to thank Ten Hag for his service.

He created memories that will last a very long time, broke records and ultimately spent a fortune to overhaul the side, while leaving it in an even worse state than solskjaer, both in terms of lack of proper training and innate quality.

I think out of all his successes, his myopic approach to transfers was the most pleasant surprise.

Should have been given more time. Felt like there was still more for him to do.

Sorry but he really is. Delusional, arrogant, pigheaded, stubborn. Throws his players under the bus regularly and never took any responsibility for how crap we were but always talked down to everyone as if he was some genius. Can't stand the prat!

Bit of a silly post really.

It didn’t work out but there was good and bad over the past two seasons. Plenty of positive memories to go with the poor ones, very similar to the signings.

The squad is young and has plenty of potential. I’m sure Amorim will be looking forward to getting stuck in.

Maybe look at your own amount of time that you spend in a United forum than judging a former Utd manager.

Do we have a buyback clause?

Watching the Chelsea game. Wtf was this guy doing on the training ground for the last 2 years? We can’t even put together a coherent move or pass the ball.

Mod! We got a Liverpool WUM here.

I really thought he'll turn you into an elite side when you signed him and still find it utterly bizarre that he changed his playstyle so much compared to his Ajax' days. I can't remember a single manager appointment that went so disappointing. There are obviously worse coaches out there but I genuinely thought he could be the next big thing after seeing Ajax play like a Pep side in the UCL.
