I read somewhere that Ralf's role is essentially part time, only working 6 days a month. If true how could he possibly hope to establish a productive working relationship with him?

I've always thought it showed just how thick our players are that they have so willingly thrown someone under the bus that they know will continue to have an influence at the club after the season comes to a close.

That to me this mentality is problematic and one of the reasons why United have failed in the last 10 years. The club has done what you are describing, every manager has done a clear out without much difference and that's because we have followed the logic that you are following which is to not expect or demand any sort of teaching competence from the new teacher, he can just buy new pupils.
For me the point of Rangnick is mainly to avoid that nonsense and help the new head coach understand what makes our current player tick, what are their strength and weaknesses. Then the head coach will have the ability to adapt his teaching methods, try to fix specific issues and in hopefully few cases determine that he isn't the right person to fix something and sell a player.
But we need to expect coaching and man-management from the members of our staff, their job isn't to just put names on a teamsheet.

I think Ralf saying he has no involvement in the manager hunt, was purely him avoiding having to be asked about who it will be. I find it very difficult to believe that Murtough would not seek an opinion from Ralf regarding all the candidates they considered. I think the plan is to be able to say - you're leaving the club and don't go crying that you weren't given the chance to prove yourself - you were.

It is taken out of context, Neville was absolutely spot on, I suggest you people to listen the full interview.
While he is undoubtedly correct, I don't think he needs to paint that bleak a picture considering people seem to take his word so seriously. The flip side is that anyone who can take us back to the top or even thereabouts, will have achieved a lot of greatness (being the person who did what Jose, LVG etc could not) and United are making significant changes behind the scenes, whether they work out or not. If you can somehow make it at United, it can go from one of the hardest big jobs around, to one of the best.

It’s not really his job to help our cause, through, is it? He might be a fan but cheerleading doesn’t achieve much beyond eroding his credibility. On paper, far more qualified managers than ETH have wilted at United.
