We got 3 points, but we were piss poor to start the season after a very flat preseason. Concerning

What? Murtough goes and buys who Ten Hag wants!
Then he is abdicating responsibility he needs to be the adult in the room, given the arms race going on in the PL we don't have the luxury to pander to managers. Do proper thoughtout recruitment with the whole recruitment team, never rely on the manager's pickings, we losing money trying to clear out anothet manager's mess we shouldnt be creating another in the process. £400m in two seasons to look like that is very worrying. Wtf is ETH playing at?

EtH got it wrong today. Not just with the initial setup but also with the subs. In a game where we are getting dribbled through midfield, taking off Mount for Eriksen was suicidal. Wolves kept attacking our left time and time again and Shaw had zero cover. I know he can see the problems himself but I worry that he might be too stubborn and keeps sticking with the current midfield. He needs to change it even if it means Mount becomes a 55m benchwarmer. The balance isn't right.

Yeah, that's just not true. MacAllister would have gone to any top 4 or established top 4 side that were in for him- if we'd been in with a bid and pushed harder, there's just as much chance if not more we would have got him. They're a 'big club' but not feckin Real Madrid approaching a Brazilian, and certainly not bigger than united. Players always tell white lies after they sign - see Kane suggesting that he wouldn't have gone to a PL rival (2 years after he went on strike, for a short time at least, to try and sign for City, and where stories were leaked all over the place suggesting he'd be amenable to signing for Ten Hag earlier this summer).

Yes it is. By all reports he wanted to go there whether we pushed harder or not. You can see with the Caicedo and Lavia deals when players want to go somewhere they will go. There was a reason for it and all reports at the time said that.

Worried about ETH, the players were shit yea but the tactics were questionable

Shaw as an inverted fullback doesn’t work
Bruno and Mount both were too high up the pitch
Have been saying this as soon as the Mount news broke, Bruno and Mount won’t work, especially with Casemiro as the DM who doesn’t have the legs. What we needed was a silky smooth CM who could pass around the press and make us tick not a #10

It looks like ETH is trying to emulate Klopp’s Liverpool when they use to bypass the midfield and deliver straight to the attacking trio, trouble is they had actual talent up front.

We need bodies in midfield before the window closes, it’ll be a disaster season otherwise.

I just haven't seen this amazing football he's supposed to be able to produce. He has a team that is practically his now and it's just the same as what we've had for a few years now.
Agreed. The very least I’m expecting from him is to introduce a particular brand of football. He has not done that yet. We don’t look like we know how to press as a team or combine to create chances. If he doesn’t fix that very quickly, results will follow and the supporters’ patience will be tested.

MacAliister wanted to go to Liverpool, we were never going to get him.

Because Mac Allister was so good for Liverpool yesterday...

'Players like' its an example of someone who was better suited to our needs who we could've gone for. I could've also said players like Lavia etc. My point is we spent £60m for nothing other than to continue the tradition of United buying #10s when we need #8s. Donny's successor found for double the money. Great work.

I'm gonna put that down to new manager bounce and the players preparing to play against a completely different system. Still not good enough though.

We didn't look ready at all tonight. Not surprised to hear we're playing a behind closed doors match.

That was worryingly poor. Zero control, terrible quality and decisions on the ball, and physically we don't look ready at all.

If we get 6-3'd by Arsenal, there won't be an excuse this season. Bring in Amrabat and move the Chelsea reject to the bench pronto.

Alternatively, make me look like a fool but sort this out.

So still blaming the guy who hasn't demanded these players. Continue to pass the buck for ETH, this team is made up of most of his players now. It's all on him.

Having full preseason, getting the signings in early, still can't get us into any kind of rhytm and with zero pattern of play. Had my reservations with him coming from a superweak one sided league dominating by one team, which quite frankly has the by far the biggest budget and biggest talents in the league.

So quite naturally will get plenty of possession and score a lot of goals. In the EPL, there are no weak teams and if you have players whoare not athletic enough. Imagine you get rid of your best running midfielder to watch a no10 dropping deeper in midfield next to Matic MK2 " legs gone" Casemiro and Lose possessiona t every occassion tryna play hollywood balls Bruno, How can you stand chance in midfield with this?

Day and night if you have a player who can run all days from deep with the ball like Wolves have and we are talking about relegation team. How that was not a penalty and it stayed 1:0 is beyond me. Lots of room for improvement but manager makes the same mistakes again and again.

technical floor of the team is still in the pits - and now so is the physical side with a midfield of Bruno/Mount and a diminishing Casemiro

all things most people that watch football regularly could have told you beforehand but somehow our manager thinks this experiment will work

Nah, honestly it's up there with the worst. No more than a handful of times, if even that, have we been so completely outplayed at Old Trafford by a bottom-table side.

Despite good results last season, it was worrying that we didn't make more progress in terms of performances. There are no excuses now, this is his team, he's spent a fortune, and we must improve quickly.

Brighton did that in the first game last year and won the game. Then you've Wolves beating us two years ago at Old Trafford, if you go through the last 10 years there's lots of examples. But yeah this year it has to get better for Ten Hag. It's just one game though, let's see.

I'm not sure what he's playing at with that midfield. We will NEVER challenge City or Arsenal with that midfield. Never. It is not possible with that setup. Surely, he must see it?
Mount is at best an upgrade on VDB for now. Will he improve? God, I hope so. But I don't see any kind of creativity, passing range, calmness, or ability to carry the ball at the elite level. But I am not sure how much we can blame it on ETH. Some of our rivals are buying 100 million midfielders, whereas we are looking at half of that value.

ETH may be a great coach (that remains to be seen for us), but without good players, he will achieve pretty much nothing much to write about here with the competition we are in.

Dunno if they players have been overworked or underworked in preseason but they don't look like a team peaking physically and ready for a fast start, could take us 4-5 games to get up to speed going off that game.

Yep the fitness or effort was abysmal. Players shouldn’t be outrun when the coaches are meant to have been working on it.

Football improvement. More goals, more consistency, stronger mentality. We have struggled greatly to kill off games. We need to dominate and crush other teams, and not turn every game into a 100 minute nail-biter. Too many times we have let teams come back from the dead. And also, as I said, an end to the humiliations that have become seasonal as of late.

This is the improvement I expect, even in an increased competitive environment. Less 1:0s and 2:1s. More 3:0s and 4:1s.

Yeah, well... :nervous:

Let's hope it will prove to be an outlier.

We're honestly so crap it's unbelievable. We have the audacity to mock other teams when we were hanging by our dear lives at our home to 1-0 win against a midtable team and our GK is saving our ass.

Nothing has changed. We're continuing from where we ended last season. At least we got the 3 points this time.

That has to be the worst performance from the so called top 6. We thought Liverpool would have issues in midfield, we need to look closer to home.

Extremely concerning. I've backed ETH completely but I'm having huge huge huge worries. My worst fears are being realized on the pitch.

What do I know, but I don't see how this midfield can work. Not sure what's this midfield supposed to be doing. Obvious susceptible to the counter, poor in possession and the whole point of Mount is supposed to be pressing and we were awful with that.

I really worry for our season and him.

Needs his striker to be fit as soon as possible.

The issue with United, and its a long standing issue for the past 5, 6, 7 years. It is utter chaos in the midfield. They all play at 100mph.

You can see why he would want someone like Onana from Everton. We need more physicality and athleticism in the squad.

Agreed. The very least I’m expecting from him is to introduce a particular brand of football. He has not done that yet. We don’t look like we know how to press as a team or combine to create chances. If he doesn’t fix that very quickly, results will follow and the supporters’ patience will be tested.
There was zero structure, we had Shaw next Onana on goalkicks and Martinez, later lindelof, in midfield. What was that about? No one in logical positions to recieve a pass, we were outmuscled and outfought. Then we were totally dominated after the goal. We're going nowhere at the moment.

Seriously worried.

That was as bad as I can remember of anything that has been served up over the last 10 years.

Did you watch.. you know... us losing 7-0 to Liverpool last year? :wenger:

Lads I think he should of been more careful with money spent this summer. I think we should of bought in a different midfielder and 2 CF with Onana

I do like Mount but I'd rather options upfront. Throwing Mctominey upfront last 5-10 mins is poxy.

Ten Hag talks about control. When are we going to see the team control possession and thus games of football?
It really is baffling. We are so careless in possession, there is no structure and everything is so hurried. I am absolutely shocked by today's performance :(.
