Nope, you are being hypocritical in that you supported Ole throughout our worst run of form for 50 years, and after 2.5 years of mediocrity, and yet you are laying into ETH after less than a season even though we're doing better than anyone could have really expected.
Did I say that I supported him throughout our worst run of form for 50 years?

You have to get over with him really. And stop obsessing with this ETH guy now too.

Weird as feck.

You are also being hypocritical in that you had a high standard in Ole, yet do not seem to have the same standard with ETH.

Well yeah, we're also top 4 and in the final of the FA Cup.

It's like people have forgotten just how bad things have been for the last fewyears... :wenger:

I don't know if you're choosing not to understand what I'm saying. It feels like that though, which is bad faith and not the type of exchange I'm interested in. You're mentioning what we have "achieved" - and harping about it - when I have already elaborated I'm speaking in terms of performance. I expected United to be a better footballing side than what I feel we are.

With the nature of cup competitions, you can win them and/or reach finals without necessarily being a good team. Top 4 in the league I believe is a better metric for consistency, but then again, I look around the league and some teams that traditionally fight for said top 4 placements have been absolutely catastrophic this year, and it's not as if we have that locked just yet.

I don't know what you want me to tell you - I said I expected us to be a better side, and that I'm disappointed with our performances away from home, the heavy losses we have suffered and that I think the manager's in-game management has not been the best - and what I'm getting in return is "Carabao! Top 4! FA Cup Final!" with a side of emojis and "have people forgotten how things have been?!"

I'm aware of these things, and I still expected United to be a better side under EtH, that hasn't materialised yet, and lately I'm not seeing many strides towards it, is all.

Why should we give a shite about what posts complain about?! 'Struggling against every team we face' - WTF?!
It’s not that I give a shit about them but it shows people still have the same opinions that we look like a team of strangers, no movement, kicking the ball at each other, sloppy mistakes.

and what team have we really out played in the last few months? Maybe forest. Every other team more or less controls then ball, have more than enough chances to score and we rely on counter attacking and ‘individual brilliance’ of rashford. Hopefully next year after a summer of coaching we’ll look better as a football team but we are no where near that yet.

According to your logic, the only people who can lay into him are the ones who lay into all the previous managers from the start.

So you are gatekeeping criticism.

Ole fanboys are gonna exaggerate everything when criticizing Ten Hag. I mean he obviously made some mistakes this season and deserves some criticism. There are obvious ones though with an agenda who get a bit giddy when we aren't doing well and almost all of them were defending Ole to the hilt.

His in game management is severely lacking. We were been dominated because Antony wasn't tracking back to help AWB. He needs to shout at him to get back and help.

At 2 nil up you play tight not that open, even Pep now plays long balls when it suits them.

At 2:1 why is our full backs out of position after a ricochet? It's mental

He blames players all the time and never takes responsibility

I'm aware of these things, and I still expected United to be a better side under EtH, that hasn't materialised yet, and lately I'm not seeing many strides towards it, is all.

Do you honestly not think we’re a better side than we were last season?

Ole the crappy manager has brought this squad (minus 200 million worth of sexy new players) to 2nd place in the League and a Europa League final. What we are achieving now is not a miracle. It's still good though.
It's always Ole with you stans.

Ole inherited a squad that had a Mourinho core. He had a very good CF in Lukaku, 2 upcoming players in Martial and Rashford, a functional midfield of Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Fred and benefited from Greenwood's emmergence from the academy. Still needed to spend 200 million and had 0 trophies to show for it only to replace our only functional CB at the time with a ball playing world record fee, that is slower and can't even pass to save his life. Still got the captaincy for it.

Left us with an absolute shambles of a bloated imbalanced squad with huge disciplinary issues, a past it prima donna 37 year old CF that didn't bother to show up for pre-season. But hey ho, ETH is in the exact spot Ole was because he spent 200 million after the manager lost Matic, Pogba, Cavanni, Greenwood and Mata all in one window.

I’m starting to get worried about ten hag abit now. Im hoping he’s the man to make us compete again. But these second half performances are frightening me. If we end up backing him and he buys another few players and then doesn’t succeed we’re stuck in the same position again players that first another mangers system and not another.

I understood him taking off awb as he was on a yellow, diving in and just letting his man make crosses.
I understand why Fred came on.
Also why martial came on, we wanted rashford out wide

I don't understand weghorst, it's a useless sub each and every time now. He can't hold the ball up, he can't do what fellaini used to do. We would be better of bringing on pellestri which keeps Bruno in the middle

I don't think his subs were bad. This game is on players who played shite in second half.
You don't get away with playing like Casemiro today. And Fred was somehow even worse when came on (and we probably would've agreed that was the right idea).

Sancho doesn't often play more than 60'. Antony looked weak and I think made sense to sub him.

I don't know what hapenned but once Tottenham got some momentum we couldn't get back to the game. Not sure what ETH could've done about it
Yeah that were my thoughts as well. ETH did something and tried, but it didn't paid off. To be honest, I dont think, anything else would have worked wonders as we seemed beaten when 2nd half started. For whatever reason. What I noticed again though was ETHs reluctance to be a bit more pragmatic. FFS mate, you have Rashford in form on the pitch, who, if anything, is useful for counter football - why not at least give a deep block a chance for once? He tries to prove his way is better than being pragmatic. Pep thought the same but adjusted in the end. Hopefully ETH will read up on that...

But again for protocol: tonight was not in the manager, players gave up. Think ETH could have gotten a few bonus points today by smart adjustments but yeah

Six points clear of Spurs with two games in hand and seven points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand. We're making top four.

And on that note, if you offered any United fan at the start of the season top four and a trophy they would've snapped your hand off for it.

Sadly, that's not all that's happened this season. Top 4, Trophy and some of the most historically embarrassing defeats in the clubs history.

Have you watched Casemiro performance recently ? There's every possible indication that he's going to slow down sooner rather than latter. How many years are you expecting us to squeeze from him ? 2 ? 3 more years ? Such sum of money is better invested in a long term option, not someone you're going to use for 2-3 years at most before he goes down hill.

Eriksen has been decent but I have seen nothing spectacular about him over the course of the season. His season has been pretty overrated. He's also not someone you're going to build on him.

Decent value ? Is this for real ? What are we going to do with such value when he's that shit ? We needed someone to compete with Shaw on such position because Shaw himself is hardly consistent.

Weghorst was a terrible choice for a backup striker in Jan and I agree that jury is out on Antony (which is hardly spectacular considering the amount of money spent on him).

Out of this window, the only 2 players we might build upon on the future is Martinez and Antony (if he proves to be good). The rest are short term options or bad players.

Nothing really impressive about this. I would prefer to invest money into players we're going to build upon for the long term future, especially since we're rebuilding the team and not expected to win the league or CL anytime soon.
You are repeating the same bollocks, 2-3 years - zero indication it won't be longer - is extremely long time in football and he was a GREAT signing. You are ignorantly negative, even when responding to somebody else you summarised the season with out mentioning the fact we went through to the FA Cup Final the weekend just gone.

We've got a long way to go and ETH's subs are a massive issue. Everything else has been a reason for optimism.

Do you honestly not think we’re a better side than we were last season?

This was true until the cup final against Newcastle. We looked a much improved team.

Ever since winning that cup, we have been back to the same old shit we used to watch regularly last few seasons.

The problem is this is giving very bad vibes of it being another false dawn. We have experienced it plenty of times, so there's always fear of it being another one.

Everything has been really bad since winning that trophy.

And I’d defend ten hag too if people were calling for him to be sacked, (they’re not) because I think and hope we can get better but when you question his tactics, subs, our performances and say you’d hope we could be playing better by now and just get met with carabou cup win it’s a bit unfair

Watched most games recently. I just don’t think the players are good enough to control games, but Ten Hag will have to sort that out it in the summer. I would have concerns over Ten Hag if he’s thinking he can make do with De Gea, and if he doesn’t completely change the midfield (as well as get a striker in).

Anyway point stands, scrap top 4, finishing below Newcastle and losing the Fa Cup final will be such a godawful end to the season and will put a lot of shadows and doom going into the market no matter how much the top reds here are going to convince themselves. We're heading towards a very negative end to the season.

Please win that damn cup so that summer doesn't be shit.
We won't beat City

Do you honestly not think we’re a better side than we were last season?

I wasn't using last season as a comparison point/metric. I just expected more than what I'm getting from United under Ten Hag, which I have already conceded might be my damage for having said expectations.

I always thought managers needed about 5 years to build a team

You did though - I can quote your posts if you want?
If you have a lot of free time, go ahead and make sure you added some context on them too. Only in the United Forum, supporting or saying some good words about the manager is a bad thing when he got sacked or something later. But let me make it clear that I have yet to say ETH is sh*t and he can't be successful.

All I said was that I hoped he improved his away game performances and second halves for the next season.

According to your logic, you are also being hypocritical in that you had a high standard in Ole yet do not seem to have the same standard with ETH.

This is not the first time since 2013 that we have managed to finish in the Top 4 or win a trophy. In 2017, we won the Europa League and League Cup. That year, we finished second (with 81 points). In 2015, we won the FA Cup and finished fourth. And then what? LVG and JM never managed to make us a title-winning side (or seriously challenge for it).

My point is: we have 60 points of 31 games, and we may very well finish in the top 4 (in a season where Liverpool and Tottenham are poor), but then what? Will we be a better team next year? Will we challenge City/Arsenal/Liverpool for the title? I doubt it.

And, to be clear, I do want the manager to stay. That’s not the issue here. We are just not making any serious progress for years now.

I don't think this is true. We weren't as great as the commentators make out in the first half, but we had some decent patterns of play with first time passes, off the ball running and blind passes in the first half. I don't what happened to all that in the second half.

That result is one him. Shocking second half performance, again we desperately need a midfielder who can control the tempo of matches because once a team gets any sort of momentum against us we simply fall apart.

If we sign Weghorst I will be ever so slightly angry and confused. Nothing against the fella, seems likeable and I wish he was good, but he's not. If Ten Hag wants him long term, thats a red flag for me.

that's a lot of words but all I can really see is 'waaah'.

We have had spells of playing some excellent football this season. It's not really much of a surprise that the quality dropped off as we lost Eriksen to injury, Casemiro to ridiculous suspensions, have played most of the season without a number 9, lost Garnacho, lost Martinez, lost Varane, and have a goalkeeper who is not suited to modern football. It does feel like your expectations were unrealistic.

We didn’t.

If Ten Hag wants to sign him permanently, I want him sacked. No if's or but's. No manager that chooses to pay actual money for Weghorst is gonna lead us to the promised land.

You are confused. In 14/15, we finished 4th with no trophy. 15/16, we won an FA Cup and finished 5th with a very bad and boring league campaign.

In 16/17 we won 2 cups, but finished 6th. In 17/18, we finished 2nd but with no cup wins (lost fa cup final to Chelsea I think).

I'll just say that he has made mistakes, like every other manager. And the team has had some pretty bad displays under his tenure too. He needs to fix our away mentality asap. But the people who can't see the difference between his coaching and Ole's are being willfully over the top with criticism. Everything else, especially the Wout sub when Pellsitri was right there, is fair criticism. But the team is heading in the right direction, there can be no doubt about that.

I don't know how people are turning on Ten Hag when the same players who have let the previous three managers down are still involved. Yes, we're not perfect. But we've had a good first season, look how long it's taken Arteta to get Arsenal to title challenging.

I have no doubt he can't wait to replace a lot of these players. So many just not made of the right stuff. With the Glazers in post though, that's not happening any time soon.

According to your logic, the only people who can lay into him are the ones who lay into all the previous managers from the start.

So you are gatekeeping criticism.
To be honest, I'm surprised that anyone is 'laying into him' given what we have achieved so far this season, but I'm especially surprised (or maybe not) at those who shouted down any criticism of Ole for years on end suddenly losing their shit cos we drew 2-2 away to Spurs. Have you all forgotten that we lost 6-1 there under Ole?!
