You seriously think so? His rivals this year for the spots are Conte's horrid Spurs, the way they play is toxic venom to the eyes and they have been shocking for most of the season even for their standards. On the other hand you have Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

Think it's a pretty safe bet that if you fall behind those two you are not likely to be any big success. I seriously hope that doesn't happen cause I want him to have some good grounds to continue on next year and cl would be a good start.

If he fails to achieve this behind newcastle and spurs it's not a good look.

Don't pretend anything else.

From this position yes. But to even be in this position is brilliant.

There’s a constant subconscious shifting of the goal posts at times. ETH is doing better than expected and we’re playing good football with obvious progress. The majority of fans at the beginning of the season would’ve been really happy to just get top 4 and then build on that.

The result today was just due to starting with Weghorst. Once he was subbed off we completely dominated the game and deserved to win. I see no reason to panic about finishing top 4.

Ten Had did make a mistake in the starting lineup but he will learn form it. The fundamentals are still there. He chose the wrong players this time.
Not as simple as just starting Sasquatch but also playing our most inform scorer on his weak side and having a quality player like Sancho benched for Alejandro. Whatever has happened to Sancho he is now back and he needs to be played especially now that Antony was out. His experience and creativity was desperstely needed and you saw it as soon as him and Facundo came in. So Erik did redeem himself a bit with the subs.

Disagree with @GifLord in saying ETH has been lucky. That's too far.

But there is some overrating going on.

We haven't played really well for a while now. We're doing just about enough to get decent results.

Last season this time people were going ape shit about how shit Rangnick was.
After 22 rounds we were on 38 points sitting 5th on the table level on points with Arsenal. Our last 5 matches were a draw vs Villa (We were leading 0-2 and still drew 2-2 in the end), loss to Wolves (0-1), win vs Burnley (3-1), draw vs Newcastle (1-1) and a win vs Brighton (2-0)
We scored 37 and conceded 30
Y2VIVLY.jpg

Ten Hag is apparently now way better. After 22 rounds we have 43 points and are sitting 3rd on the table with Newcastle right behind us with a game in hand. Our last 5 matches - Draw / 2-2 vs Leeds, Win / 2-1 vs Crystal palace, Loss / 3-2 to Arsenal, Draw / 1-1 vs Crystal Palace and Win / 2-1 vs Man City. How many of these results were lucky? City win was pure luck. We also rode our luck vs Palace.
We scored 36 goals and conceded 28.

I've said at the begining of the season that Ten hag needed luck to succed here and he's so far had an amazing amount of it - both Chelsea and Liverpool being absolute shit at the same time and some of the games the city one in particular...

Compare their win percentages there and the penny might drop.

We are barely scoring goals. 3 times this season we managed to score 3 goals - Arsenal, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. We've won 9 games in EPL this season by 1 goal and 4 by more than 1 goal (3 3:0 and 1 2:0)
Among those 1 goal wins there were at least 2-3 games where we came very close to drawing if it wasn't for DDG's saves or Martinez's last ditch tackling.

That’s not luck. That’s called having good players. I’m guessing you don’t count other teams doing last ditch blocks as bad luck for us? Your tagline is right, you chat absolute shit to the point where it’s insulting that others have to read it.

We need to stop lucking games. There's been far too many of them.
I honestly don't feel there have been too many of them. Played really well against Chelsea and probably should have got three points, should have beat Newcastle, and dropped points against Palace with a last minute free kick, it's swings and roundabouts.

The one problem I have (and it's not EtH's fault) is that there just isn't the squad depth in certain areas. You can easily pick our three best players this season

  • Martinez
  • Casemiro
  • Rashford
If Casemiro or Rashford lose form/miss games we're in big trouble. The likes of Eriksen (a big miss too) Varane, Shaw, Bruno, Dalot have all done really well at various points but the drop off when Casemiro isn't there is insane and where on earth are the goals coming from without Rashford?

Absolute bollox. Some of you are fecking nuts. Did the whole Ronaldo thing pass you by? Do you think, maybe, just maybe, dealing with all the shit he caused and losing Martial for basically the whole season has made things a bit tricky for the manager? Or how about Sancho needing a mid season sabbatical? ETH has had to cope with an absolute shitload of adversity already this season. And tonight, of all nights, we’re getting posts like yours. Piling onto the guy after coming from 2 goals down to draw 2 all, in a match without either of his first choice CMs, his back-up DM, first choice striker, or first choice RW. I mean, fecking hell. Take a moment to think before posting.

Sancho was said to be ill so he couldn't start. Antony was injured. He had little options today so chose garnacho ahead of Pellestri who was the only viable option.

Sancho was coming back from a long time off. He was always going to start from the bench and work his way from there up.

Starting Rashford as a striker instead of Weghorst would have solved most of these issues.

It happens. Managers make mistakes in lineups all the time. We did well to come back to the game and could have won it too. Nothing to get upset about. Onwards and upwards.

Yeah, we’ve struggled for goals. Could that possibly be linked to all this talk of ETH wanting to sign a new striker? What do you reckon?

And yeah, ETH can count himself lucky to have defenders who tackle and a goalkeeper who saves. Jammy git.

You lot are mental. We just drew against a revitalised Leeds after a 13 game winning streak at home and suddenly EtH is lucky and isn’t up to the task. fecking hell.
I am genuinely shocked when I see people post like that. Oh wait, no it doesn't shock me. Welcome to Redcafe

Ronaldo was out of the team after two games in the league!!!

And you apparently also can't read as I did not pile into feck all but simply stated if he can't finish top 4 over eddie howe's newcastle I simply don't think he'll be any huge success here is it really so hard to understand someone might feel that way?

Fecking hell you write like I have personally insulted you or something and the vein in your foreheads about to burst chill a bit lad.

Can you imagine if we’d scored the goal Leeds did for their second? Would be lucky for us that it deflected in.

I’m perfectly calm. It’s possible to describe what someone said as complete bollox without feeling agitated in the slightest.

“Eddie Howe’s Newcastle” are having an excellent season, completely independent from Manchester United. They’ve only lost one match ffs*

*please read in completely calm voice.

It's just a very negative way to look at things.

"If he doesn't do this, he's shit"

Brother we are not playing some meaningless friendlies anymore we are caught in an extremely hectic schedule also with injuries piling up we can't afford having quality player like that on the bench, nows the time he is needed the most!!

You can’t just say Eddie Howe’s Newcastle as if they’re crap. They’ve only lost one game all season and their schedule has been very relaxed compared to ours. We’ve had to deal with an immense amount of issues and setbacks this season.

Do you think if Klopp doesn’t finish above Eddie Howe’s Newcastle that he can no longer be a success at Liverpool?

Players are humen not robots. If he's off for such long period of time he's supposed to be eased into the team.

Hope he changes up that midfield of Sabitzer, Fred and Bruno while Casemiro is still suspended. Give Lindelof or Martinez the 6 and take one of Sabitzer/Fred out.

Some of need to be shot for God sake. If you can’t acknowledge we have improved massively then maybe you need to stop wasting your time watching football.

ETH put a good enough side out to win. You can't expect that lump to be that bad, Fred and Garnacho to miss them chances. He made changes to salvage the game. He's an unreal manager, working with horrendous owners. He's beat everyone and done it with a light squad. People need to calm down, we have came so far so soon.

Klopp not good comparison as it's already clear his liverpool have collapsed also he already won practically everything you could win with them so he has some leeway for being so shite.

Ten hag is here his first season and right now if you see how it's kind of helping him a bit how bad chelsea and liverpool are it's opened up a path for CL for him and my honest opnion is just simply if he's a good manager he will take that opportunity.

You will see yourself the hypocrisy on here if he doesn't make it 90% will say it's embarrassing he got outdone by Eddie Howe and let's be honest it will be, anyone saying anything else is fooling no one. Remember that this is just hypothetical scenarios I don't hope or think it will happen.

I had to look didn't I?!

I'm sure someone else can make gifs.

Ffs, some of you don't deserve success, this is insane.

Correct, and all to all Antony haters pull you neck in, he is always an out ball in that type of game. Our rightside was worst tonight without him, give him time. Onwards to Sunday, round 2.

Yeah his take on Ten Hag is absolutely astonishing. I’d respond to him directly but he’ll likely just rant on about how we were just as good under Ralf and next season we’ll be lucky to avoid relegation.

Why does Klopp have leeway for being shite when he’s been there for so long and should have the exact squad he wants?

Ten Hag has been here 8 months and seems to have less leeway despite having to deal with Ronaldo, an unfit Martial, benching the club captain, losing his first choice midfield for chunks of the season, losing Sancho for a long time, injuries to his first choice RB, progressive mid and lack of options in attack overall, a hectic schedule (worse than any other clubs) and some awful refereeing decisions.

This forum and this thread in particular is pure handbags right now.

Embarrassing stuff.

Because of the exact thing I said he has won them everything and he's been there now what, 7 seasons? Cycles come to an end bro, you can't expect everyone to be like Sir Alex and win every year and stay for so long.

As for the other things yes I agree but now it is what it is. I still think it is perfectly valid to be worried if he does not make top 4 this year. Only thing he will have proven then is he's failed his objective and for sure things will be tougher next season.

But it is so funny to say this because of the reactions of some on here (not you)

It's like I've said sack him.. Just a mere observation and opinion and hell breaks loose on here bunch of roidheads!

This. I’d even go as far as to say we’ve had more bad luck than good luck this season.

I despair at how little some supposed football fans actually know about football.
Half of the posters doesn't even watch the games. Some shocking stuff are posted after every game.

It's just a very negative way to look at things.

"If he doesn't do this, he's shit"
Definitely didn't say that nor do I think he is. But again, I will definitely worry if he did miss out and then come next season things start looking worse. Some of you seem to ignore how crucial it is for him to make it as it will give him a lot more room to build on from what he started.

Got no squad depth and we're playing every 3 days plus we've just won 13 in a row at home so dropping points is going to happen.

Think, that is the correct sentiment here and now. I would note though, that I thought it seemed a bit bizarre to me to try to replicate his game plan today when not just one but even to key stones of his system were missing. Should have adjusted the game plan. Especially because Leeds were as pushy as they were, a compact counter attacking setup might have worked better today. Especially as it works almost all the time against this particular opponent.

Have all the opinions you want, but when they lack perspective they're invalid conclusions. He's been in charge for a little over half a season, and to be where we are now despite unprecedented fixture congestion, having to make the best out of loan signings, and now injuries and suspensions piling up. Some of what we saw today was simply growing pains in continuous implementation of playing style, and believe it or not in less than one fecking season under this manager, players need to develop cohesion in executing this playing style. By all measures we're overachieving this season, and he's the reason.

No idea what people expect ETH to do when his two starting mids are unavailable. The criticism of the forwards and back 4 during this Leeds match is also ridiculous. Almost all ball progression was from the back 4 doing long balls and through balls to the forwards because the two midfielders had no idea what they're supposed to be doing.

Weghorst looked awful.

Disagree with @GifLord in saying ETH has been lucky. That's too far.

Not even overrating just the way this forum is, sometimes you say slightest thing against the popular opnion and people take it as an insult and make it sound like you called the manager a dickhead or something. Same thing happen with Jose and Ole and same people were then crying for them to be sacked.

I can't speak for giflord opinion, I don't agree with the lucky thing on the contrary some things have been really unlucky like casemiro gone 3 games or that pony tail geordie scum who put eriksen on crutches. Only thing I would say is lucky for him is pretty much that chelsea and liverpool are out of the equation for top 4 which gives him a better chance.
