Well, to all of you who says ETH is such an amazing tactical manager. Tell me how could an amazing tactical manager, have a game plan with manmarking their midfielders? Their midfield just keeps moving and the central areas in Uniteds half are completly open for them. This is completly suicide tactics. It might work when youre the best team in the Eredivise and the tempo is lower, but against a better team in the PL were the tempo is higher. If there is one thing that is important to stand a chance against City it is to close down the central areas and move them wide. Of course it would be difficult to stop them anyway, but today City havent needed to be at their best. So all this nonsense about how well prepared ETH is, does it look like he knew what was coming today?

We could of course blame the players, but then again today the gameplan has been totally naiveand that is the responsibility of the manager.

BTW Eriksen marking Håland on defensive corner?

I dont blame him for starting the same 11 but ffs should have changed it the moment he knew it wasn't working. And I knew this from minute 5.

4-0 down at half time twice in your first 7 games of the season.
He gets given a specialist defensive midfielder, one of the best in the world. Goes away to the best team in the league and plays fecking Mctominay over him because of some shite about “team dynamics”. This is the guy everyone pushed for over Poch and he presumably cannot see the bigger picture.
Casemiro should of definitely started here. Don’t think the score would of been any different if we had poch though. Ten Hag wants to play a similar style of play to pep but we don’t have the players and we haven’t been together as a team for no where near as long as city have. Takes years to mould a team.

The football has been different between the different managers. The underlying similarities is just shit football at varying frequencies.

ten Hag hasn’t had nearly long enough yet.
Slow zombie football & constantly losing possession as players look shit scared of the ball. This has been a common theme across every manager and across completely different sets of players. Everything changes at United whilst staying the same

No point slamming Ten Hag for this. We’ve been battered of these under ole and rangnick too. The difference is… Ten Hag will make changes to improve us the other 2 managers just keep things as they are!
I think United beat City more than they did us under Ole.

This team set up is poor and bit arrogant. You have to understand this is a top team and you have to adjust in short term. Scott and Eriksen might be good enough for other 18 teams but we needed fight in midfield for this one. Plus we should have sat back and see how first 30-40 min go.

This. Best post I’ve read today.

You all wanted him. He was labeled a genius by 90% in here. Even though he has only won with Ajax in a one team league. He has done a terrible job so far. He will get sacked before the seasons ends.

We should get Mancini in after the WC

My main problem with Ten Hag is that the majority of the positive opinions around him are based around the hype rather than his actual work on the pitch.

Man United have been as shit as usual this season and any other manager would have been slaughtered but it's Ten Hag, there's so much hype around him so a lot of people don't seem to dare criticize him or point out that, really, feck all has changed so far, either from our play style or even from our results.

The results are average and the football played is mostly shit. That's the reality.

I'm not saying he already failed or should be sacked but deary me, don't pretend everything is going well when it's clearly not.

There's still a lot of work he has to do and so far the signs are simply not convincing. He'll get his chance, fully, but he has to show improvement regarding at least, at fecking least, the playstyle by the end of this year.

I hope this is parody post.

EtH probably make a mistake setting up a team but....this city team is so perfect at every aspect of the game. They have plenty of resources on and off the pitch. I don't see this city at the prime could be rivaled by any team in Europe for the next decade.

I'm sure the like of Madrid, Bayern etc would still fancy their chances to give them a good run. No reasons we shouldn't be at least close to that level. Crying shame how we've been ran for the last decade.

Eriksen's one of the few players that can actually retain possession and find spaces; Fernandes, when properly motivated to work off the ball and mix his passing up, is obviously going to be more erratic but also provides us a cutting edge. I'd still have played Casemiro instead of McTominay but McT's had good games as a spoiler against City and with Ten Haag's instruction looked to be getting back in his positioning and early passing. Bigger error was probably not playing the diamond, and having Martial as proper hold-up player, with potentially Anthony beside him (he's obviously better as a winger but has the pace to play split forward), then Rash to replace and Sancho to come in as the 10 if Fernandes is off his game.

Sigh.

Luke shaw the only sub. After that midfield performance. Interesting. Casemiro clearly wasn’t a ETH signing. It’s more apparent than ever.

Deflecting from the fact that he got it completely wrong today. City would have won either way, but he's made it easy for them with the way he set the team up, as if he thought the two sides are equals and wanted to go toe to toe with them.

It really seems like that. Which is delusional if true.

He's working with a handful of good lads and fecking pretend footballers. The ones who have been here the longest are the biggest culprits, generally. Longer the tenure the more likely they are to be streaks of piss.

Beginning to think the club is cursed and it makes literally no difference who we hire as manager nor who we sign. It's more or less been the same crap football with the same issues for over a decade. How's that even possible?
It takes time, relax. Getting battered by Pep and City can happen to anyone. Pep won't stay there for too long and they'll go back to a more reachable level. That's the reality

Dude...you will be banned here for so many inconvenient truths.

It happens. And it's gonna happen again before we get to where we need to.

Look at Arteta. Currently has Arsenal at the top of the table having made the sort of progress we're looking to make, yet just last season was getting dicked 5-0 and 4-0 by City and Liverpool, not to mention 3-0 by Spurs. And that's having already been in the job for a season and a half at that point.

When we say it's going to take time and patience, these are the sort of results that prompt the need for that time and patience. City were 35 points better than us last season and have improved since then. We've a long, long way to go so suck it up, basically.

Bit naive to not go with two proper defensive minded midfielders

It’s okay though, we’re still growing as a team and it’s early days

Yeah, because you and many know much better than the manager that oversees training. This ain't fecking FIFA where you just put in players with highest stats. Go follow fecking Poch.

I'm having doubts.

Rashford as a #9?

Persisting with Fernandes as a #10 when he's been consistently poor for years now?

Passing up on Casemiro AND Fred?

I don't blame him for not changing a winning team but it was through riding our luck rather than it being good football.

What? Our wins were through luck? What the feck am I reading here. Wins being 1:0 doesn't mean they were lucky ffs.

This team are just mental midgets, and it’ll take time to build them up and weed them out. The base level talent is there but they are just always a step behind in intensity and technique when the pressure is on, regardless of the quality of opponents.

EtH probably could’ve gone more conservative, but I doubt we would’ve seen a marked improvement, even their CBs are running free into midfield with no fear.

Only seven games in. This is all part of his learning the character of his side and the tactical requirements of the Premier League.

Harsh lesson, but if something’s learned…

If you can't see that they were close wins that could have easily been draws at least I'm not going to argue. Just my opinion.
