Needs to get a proper scouting setup in place with the club because this buying players he’s had experience with is becoming fecking bizarre. I’d understand 1-2 players but it’s every single player we’re linked with.

There were moments when the camera cut to him on the side line looking guilty and bemused. That, or a deer under bright light. Hope it is going to be a one-off as he was completely different during pre season.

Probably experiencing the same problem Rangnick had. You tell the players what you want and once they are in trouble they revert to their comfort zone.

It takes time and recruitment to make it work.

Also for what it's worth he made effective changes until the last minute gamble.

What I would say, him being quite harsh in public about the players, when he's pretty much got plenty of the same players who love to throw a manager under the bus and down tools, makes me a bit worried. There's still so much low quality slop he's got to work with, who I feel simply can't be trusted.

He can’t appease them too much though, can he? Him being harsh on them public all seems alright to me, but he’s got to go further and drop them: Maguire, Fred, Rashford, McT, Bruno will get him the sack if he keeps starting them. Some of them should be out of the door, really.

I'd happily see them dropped, play the sodding kids, at least they might actually listen, follow instruction and be good enough.

I agree, but also think that in this specific case he got the tactics wrong too. Here’s hoping the board wakes up and we play better In our next match.

Can't deny I'm already worried about his prospects after one game. It's quite possible we lose 3 or 4 out of the next 5 games and it could be over before it even began.

There's no room for manoeuvre. The fans have had enough after years of failure and are not going to be patient. They will respond to some signs of hope and improvement but it needs to happen quickly.

The 90th minute subs were bizarre. Putting on 2 young players for their debuts in such a fevered situation and not even giving them 10 minutes to get their first touches in and their heads focused. Weird.

Anyway, my hope is that he has the strength and flexibility of mind to make some very tough decisions, and he needs to make them quickly. He must realise that players like Shaw, McTominay and Rashford could jeopardise his career as they are simply not bringing any quality or intensity onto the pitch anymore. Malacia, DVB and Garnacho are all risky replacements but he's going to be forced to gamble on them early I suspect.

If FDJ isn't happening they now need to be brave and choose an alternative and maybe overpay on them. £70m on Neves is a joke for example, but we can't go into the season with no midfielders - that £70m will seem cheap when we're getting pumped nearly every game.

No idea, but that's what there's around 500 people paid for. Scouts, recruiters and negotiators. Whoever the next best right back is.

It always annoys me when the retort to someone saying we need reinforcements is "who?" - like you say, a supporter will watch a limited amount of games, typically games which involve the club they support, they shouldn't be expected to come up with a comprehensive list, there's people being paid handsomely to identify players that can play he style we want who also have the character to play for a huge club.

If fans can pick targets for the club to sign then we're in an even worse position than I thought.

The "evolution not revolution" statement earlier in the summer is looking pretty darn daft now, when supporters can see the shit hitting the fan before the people running the club can it's a serious problem, it's a form of entertainment for supporters (well...supposed to be) and a job for them, its unforgivable and inexcusable.

The problem is, the knives never stopped sharpening. These bunch of players put in the the worst shift imaginable last season including 0-5 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford. Most of of these players are still on the pitch and the board have made an absolute tit out of the fan base in the transfer window that followed. Do you honestly expect anything else?
Sorry mean sharpening the knives for ETH, I do t think I explained myself clearly. I agree with the players, and RR was correct on how many needed to go, but this damaged our share price and the vile leeches the Glazers could not have an expert (when it comes to recruitment not management) dropping truth bombs.

Patience is desperately needed. I don't want us giving up on him quickly. But he can't expect success with the level of some of these players.

I think the result yesterday where it looked like nothing changed at all, and the Arnautovic link has certainly let down my tires a bit.

Top managers chase top players.

If he doesn’t get some good quality players then I’m giving up on him early.

We can’t buy Aunautavic - to believe that a managers tactics is so special that only ex players could ever play it is simply delusional.

Hopefully he realises sooner rather than later that some of these players are just broken and should be tossed out the club. They will cost him his job eventually.

He is in for a horrible awakening. Dalot, McT and Fred will cost him dearly, and I hope I am wrong, but Martinez feels like he will add to that list. That's before getting to Ronaldo, and the forward like that is unreliable.

I really believe ETH is the right manager for Man Utd, he just need time and...quality players!

Hga need to wake up and not jsut focus on FDJ, give an ultimatum and move on! We cant plauy with Mcfred, both should be shown the door asap.

He is doing himself no favors and it's not wrong to call him out on it. It doesn't mean "kNiVeS aRe oUt aLrEaDy".

It's obvious his influence during this transfer window is not insignificant. This obsession to primarily have players he has worked with before is weird and shortsighted. A competent DoF would step in in this situation, but Murtough is as incompent as Woodward, so that's obviously not happening. So it's up to Ten Hag to forge his own destiny. The way he is going about it doesn't exactly inspire confidence so far. De Jong or bust? What about a DM? And a 33-year-old Arnautovic!? Really?

I think he is a bit naive and is both overestimating what he has and underestimating the league. And no, I don't want to hear how McTominay was rated by 4 other managers so he must be good.

I’m not impressed at all.

Early days but he has that moyes effect of a deer caught in headlights, it’s been mentioned a few times but when the camera panned to him yesterday he was looking absolutely clueless and shook. Going into the new season with a worse squad than last season was some going but we have, not bringing in a midfielder is inexcusable.

we really need to go big this week in the transfer window back him and show some intent or else he will be finished before it’s Even begun.

That was the most disappointing first game I could have imagined. He made mistake after mistake. Grand it was his first game but fecking hell. Why did he make those 3 subs in the 90th minute? Either give them some proper time or don't. But he basically handed the impetus to Brighton for the last 5 minutes when we were on top before that. Leaving McTominay on for so long was a moronic decision.

Hopefully this will be an eye opener for him. He needs to learn and adapt quickly. That was simply disgraceful.

If we can't get a couple of players in before the window shuts. ETH is in trouble. Its not about ability the players can't work together. The confidence is shot and motivation rock bottom you need new faces in the starting 11 to provide that energy needed and infect the rest with it.

This group of players are radioactive and shouldn't be playing together. This was apparent last season but the club decided to penny pinch.

Agreed with the subs in the 90th min. The last 5 mins were comfortable for Brighton.

I feel a lot of sympathy for him having to try to coach a coherent football philosophy into our lot. Many of them have shown that they are just not good enough.

At Ajax he wasn’t the one in charge of transfers. We need to get the right structure around him ASAP and take that weight off his shoulders and let him focus on what he does best.

In the post match comments, EtH said that he was surprised by how Brighton played. Surprised that they did not build out from the back and instead resorted to direct play. This is why United's press failed.
I'm sorry but isn't it EtH's job to notice these things and make changes to tactics at half time? Is he going to be another uni-dimensional coach like RR or OGS?

I think the issue is we mostly dealt with their direct play it was the players making silly mistakes that cost us those 2 goals, McT giving the ball away first goal etc.

Players making mistakes cost us the game not Ten Hag's setup.

I think if we had two wins to start...it would have given a false sense of hope and belief to the fans...In a way I am ok to lose the first game if it means a sense of urgency in the market...

But it also now puts us on risk given that everyone knows how desperate we are.....

its not the manager...something fundamentally needs to change at the club ownership and leadership....hopefully starting with change of owners...

I mean why can't fans just refused to go inside the stadium until glazers sell...thats the only way to force their hands to sell

As with RR, he has inherited a bunch of overpaid mid table players. We had since last November time to prepare the setup for the new manager but we failed. We just fired some people and replaced one of the main troublemakers with an unknown quality. Even if ETH somehow manages to win a trophy, his wins will be shortsighted. By the time he will be gone, the new manager will face the same issues. I don't care what our position will be this year. Anything above 10th is fine. The issue is that we don't see changes to build a setup for ETH to work.
And no just asking ETH about the players he knows, is not a wise transfer policy.

Nothing has changed since last season and beyond. Whilst these owners are here, the manager is on borrowed time….

His future, imagining getting only 1/2 points in the first month

The pressure would be already unsustainable
His future is not in doubt. Even if we fail over the next four games. This is a team that is used to losing.

Am I right in thinking that the clubs he managed previously all struggled a bit for the first few months? His track record as a coach suggests he will improve the team given time, but these things take months, not weeks.

Having said that, no manager on earth could improve the players we have to the extent required. Our window has been really poor with our inability to replace the McFred duo. We’ve got other weaknesses too but that’s the glaring one. You can’t win football matches if you don’t have control in the midfield and the ability to move the ball through the lines.

We’ve got to get FDJ over the line or Murthough will be buried by the fans, whether he’s better than Woodward or not.

If he persists with McFred then he better be prepared for more results and performances like yesterday.
With managers we point to certain things that started their downfall, Van Gaal the Leicester match for example, Ten Hag is going to put himself under very avoidable pressure if he doesn’t do everything to get a CM in

McFred will absolutely feed him to the Wolves (and not the orange cnuts…. but them too)

Think this is a good summary. You go to the game, give up the day and spend the cash and get players putting in a disinterested performance. It didn’t take much for people in the ground to get impatient with the team yesterday and it was completely fair in my opinion. The players have been used to understanding and getting time from the fans but they are finding out now that it doesn’t last forever.
A midfielder is a start but I’m definitely of the opinion that we are in trouble without a striker too. The arrival of a striker will then cause martial to down tools because he doesn’t like the competition for places and the cycle continues
