As far as Donny goes, I wish we had got rid of the doodzoone.

Dont want to be too critical, but something is very wrong if he still believes FDJ is the only midfielder better than McTominay and Fred, or that Anthony is the only forward in the world who can bolster our attack.

A central line of DdG, Maguire, and McFred tells us everything about the current situation on the pitch (and off as well). And if Hag continues playing them, well, then he’s clearly not the manager/coach I thought he was.

Arnautovic is the answer

Well he's in for a long season.

If he doesn't show progression as the season progresses, he won't last the season.

That should be a given right?

Bosz didn't last 6 months at Dortmund after he left Ajax. There's no guarantees outside of Guardiola & Klopp in football.

It should, but there's plenty of people on here saying he should get the season regardless which is insanity.

I'm a fan of ETH, but he has to show something to earn time.

If we look this bad 6 months in, we're in trouble.

When he has said that? He said that we are looking for a midfielder with a particular set of skills, not to be "better" than McTominay or Fred.

Antony would add a left-footed attacker to the line-up which we are lacking, most of ours are right footed.

Both started slow at when they came to PL. I think Ten Hag will get this season at the very least.

3 players signed by Ole started today, and 2 of his own. Glazier in the stands, and probably very happy with our rebuild speed.

I mean that's just our fanbase & the severely unhinged relationship they have with our managers.

Objectively speaking, we need to be quite ruthless as a club if we are to ever succeed again.

I felt he was really downbeat in his post match interview and press conference. Perhaps I am reading too much into it. Hope he doesn't lose self confidence after a few defeats.

Our scouts are crap sure, that has been known for many years now. But if they suck, he doesn't have to come up with outrageous suggestions like Arnautovic. I'd rather he signed no one until January.

If Arnautovic was not his idea, he should have veto'd it even before it got to the bid stage.

Arnautovic is just not a Manchester United player.
Neither are half the players who presently are playing for Man Utd. It’s not that I disagree on Arnautovic, but it’s such a minuscule point in the whole scheme of things that it doesn’t matter.

Skills that make him a nightmare for midfielders like Mcfred.

Ah, that one again. If you read the Dutch original, he says that it's 'doodzonde' what happened to Van de Beek. That indeed means 'mortal sin' if you translate it literally (or actually: 'dead sin'), but that's not what it means. It means 'great pity' in Dutch, and what Ten Hag was saying, is that it's a great pity what happened with Van de Beek. It wasn't a criticism of United, but a reflection on how things turned out for Van de Beek after his transfer.

This is correct.

In Pep's first season, Leicester and Everton tore a hole into your favorite City. So it takes time to build a team for your football and tactics.

Experts say ETH is good, coaches say it, as if coaches ever criticise each others work, it was all one giant echo chamber group think thing, and nobody ever sat down and actually thought things through. I normally hate these one day in critics, but i think it's too much for him. I also don't get it, why Arsenal is supposed to be a good example or why Utd has to imitate Liverpool, it's the same group think error.

They also showed progress throughout the season.

The season is long, but you can't give time without it being earned.

Hopefully we look back at this result in 6 months and laugh.

It's hard not to fear for him already. He's a wonderful coach but he's inherited a mess and I think any coach would struggle to survive in this environment. Give Conte this squad and he'd struggle, as would Pep and Klopp.

Hes way too good for Murtough and the Glazers, genuinely don't understand how we even landed a manager like ETH with this circus in the first place nevermind how they give him this squad to start the season with, hes ultimately going in to a boxing match with two hands tied behind his back would be surprised if he puts up with this for very long.

I’ve joined the forum as I’m a massive Ten Hag fan and honestly think he’ll go down as one of the greatest managers of all time, when it’s all said and done.
But he needs to get his preferred players otherwise it’ll take a long time for United fans to truly enjoy Ten Hag’s philosophy on the pitch.

He has no choice with the players he currently has, but he has a choice with Arnautovic to not sign him.

We're trying to rid our squad of troublemakers. If EtH cannot understand the dressing room problems we have had for the last few years and what it has done to the team, then it suggests to me he hasn't done enough homework.

One shit match and the panic on here is unbelievable.
It’s not on ETH. But we still have a backbone from LVG and MOU playing. We have seen it before, same culprits, not much on the bench but kids. If this ends well he should get a statue!

If he benches a few of the wasters in the next game I will feel immense relief. If the usual culprits start again then I will be concerned.

I hope he isn’t the one wanting to sign Arnie. That’s all I have to say on this depressing day. Good night.

I started my current job about 11 months ago. I always feel that my hands are tied behind my back, I couldn't grow the business, I didn't get the support of my boss, I didn't get help from cross functional teams but I have decided to leave a join another company. I fear this will happen to ETH, he will feel like leaving by March. For his reputation, he might just tell Utd that he leave when the season is done. Sometimes it is not the coach, it is the culture of the club. No manager can be successful under such circumstances including Klopp and Pep. Only with new owner can change the culture.

Managers like Klopp and Guardiola aren’t also genius scouts who know every player in the world who fits their precise style of play.
Most of the players they bought, Klopp played against and liked them, he is a genius scout.

Yeah we would never have had the business sense to allow those Barca backroom join this club, Klopp took one look at the Toy Story puppet and told him to feck off

I did start wondering if EtH might have picked today's side to make a point to the board that his options are truly awful. I mean, imagine Marital being your first choice striker, and then there being a possibility that Ronaldo could leave.
And then there's the midfield, and dalot at right back, and Maguire at centre back, and Rashford in the starting 11.
So I did wonder if he wanted to put pressure on the board to get deals done.

Truth is though that EtH wouldn't have been wanting to prove a point in the opening game at OT. He's under massive pressure and this defeat just cranked it right up.

I’m not here to bash ETH, because I actually believe he’s the right man for the job.

But can anyone find a valid reason for him taking off Fred and not McTominay today? They both played shit and both gave the ball away. But McTominay being on a yellow card and being asked to be the only midfielder to stay back for the counter attack was a strange choice.

So you've written him off after one bad game? Maybe if we sack him now we can get another manager in before the transfer window ends.

Yup. Though tbf it feels like the last 9 years have been an endless hellish purgatory of waiting for this exact thing to happen, with various different players..

I know, right? And right after Ajax fans told us it will take a minute to get the team playing his way.

Like, what did people think that would look like?

I can't say I'm happy about the Arnautovic link, though. The club should shut that down even if ETH wants it.

It is going to take some time. We still got players not up for it. We don’t have all the players we want in this transfer window(we might get them). We want to play a brand of football that takes time to be good at.

I hate that we lost todays match, but I also think it’s good it happened now. Erik is probably very irritated about it like everyone else, but at the same time it’s good to see the players in a real match. He now know first hand what must be done.

Not very exciting news the possible signing of Arnatovic, based on his story and accusations. We will see how that play out eventually.

Either way I will stand behind Erik. I trust him.

I'll tell you. I thought for once there was absolutely no way in hell this man who has managed Ajax for the past 3 seasons playing their style of football would opt for McFred in the middle. Just that fact has already tarnished my view of him. There's no chance in hell he could have analyzed our previous season and thought it would be a bright idea to keep sticking them two absolute ueseless passengers in the middle.

Watching his post match conference. He sounds like he's been crying.

He's not going to make it
