Option 4 is he knows he's off and it's damage limitation. The most likely option.
Forgot the source but I did catch that he's one of the 3 replacements Ajax have in mind alongside Potter and some other guy. He's just as much of a shambles as Ajax, so it feels like a proper reunion.

When you consider that, it makes sense he wants to protect his pathetic reputation before going back to his pond.

Week in, week out, it's the same dull and uninspired pish. Players that look like they've been introduced to each other over ale and a pie in the pub half an hour before kick off.

Is anyone surprised any longer?

I've edited my previous post for what it's worth. 5th isn't getting CL by the looks of it, so 4th. Villa get 1 point or we drop more and it's over. But I fully expect they'll do it after the last game now.

Technically 5th can still get it. I get it’s statistically improbable but they may have to wait until England officially can’t get the bonus spot, earliest would be after the euro semi finals

Yeah it's a weird place. I could be completely wrong but I airways got the impression there were a lot of overseas fans that were just trying too hard. It's not just with Ten Hag but any negativity seems to be down voted. Which is odd when you consider the last 10 years.
I always assumed the same thing having also been active on an NFL team subreddit, the Americans will not accept any negativity. We’re miserable fecks by nature.

Please chime in Americans on here.

It’s absurd he hasn’t been sacked yet and I’m beginning to think they’ll actually give him a new season too.

I got banned from that subreddit because I was unhappy with Ole towards the end of his tenure. The place was an Ole cult and I had the audacity to say that he was actually terrible in the job and we'd never be successful with him as manager.

Believe it or not, perma banned!!

OK they're 100% just try hards then. I don't get it though, if you really love the club you support then you should be comfortable enough to criticise where warranted.

ETH is a dead man walking. The club is doing badly, he's not an INEOS signing, he had issues with loads of players and most important he's entering his last year of contract. That means that we either offer him a contract now or we'll risk him talking to other clubs in January which would tank our season.

Oh it was just great getting a draw at home to “The Burnley”, who are fighting hard to avoid relegation.

Also have to laugh at the "2004, 2005 side didnt play that great football"

Did finish with +36 goal difference though, something ETH will only ever dream of. And only conceded 26 goals in the 2004/5 season. Different era and all but that was what rebuilding a team while progressing year on year looked like.

Can’t blame him for an Onana punch to the face.
Would a 1:0 win today change anything if we're playing like this? It really shouldn't. It hasn't been about individual results for quite some time now. Repeat that game 10 times and we win 3 games at most. Against basically a championship side, at home. Unsustainable.

Really? As in, the international Euros? Hopefully the wording in the contract is "top 4" and not "CL qualification", as that would be ridiculously late in the day and not good for anyone.

For me, his quotes in the last couple of weeks have gotten very distancing, and now we’re at the point where he’s basically saying we’ve got no chance of anything for years despite him coming in and spending £400m in two seasons and signing over 10 players.

It’s all the stuff previous managers have said when they knew they were going also. The blame game starts and the manager turns on the club, team and fans to save his own arse.

You’re probably right though, he’ll have his eye on another big European club this summer but none are going to touch him.

It was all the media bashing that he lost me with, suddenly hurt by them asking a few hard questions, it was a weird reaction from him imo, now the excuses are coming thick and fast, it does look ominous for him.

I could see why he wouldn't want to go back to Ajax, as even if he starts making them look as good as they were before we got him, then it'll prove nothing nobody already knows about him.

He could do with a break, and then a job like Everton (if they get a new owner and a bit of cash), or Brighton maybe, and see if he can build himself up again

If Villa get a point or more today, we officially can’t catch them in 4th

Would that “sack for cheaper” clause kick in then do you think, or would it have to wait to see if England get a 5th CL spot?

Yeh , well if Villa win to the final they still get points. I mean Germany has 3 teams left in it so it’s not gonna happen but I think of it like top 4 in England. We knew before today we weren’t getting it but technically we still might of gotten it.

Interesting if it’s worded too 4 or CL qualifying, I’d of thought it’s more about CL qualifying as that’s the whole point of 4th

Deserved tbh.

It was like you said a different era. The PL is now more competitive.

I don't really know. My best guess is inspired by Hockey, where some teams have defensive systems where they pressure the puck high in the offensive zone and if they don't create a turnover backcheck aggressively in the neutral zone. That's the only thing that I can think about and makes sense but it only works because Hockey rinks are significantly smaller.
Alright. Who know

Has to be a CL clause cause what’s the point in 4th if it’s not about CL qualification?

Everyone has a plan until someone gets punched in the face
Explains it. ETH must be suffering from concussion.
Heads gone.
I suppose not. Out of curiosity, do you think it’s proper to blame him for the other 95 minutes of poor football and bizarre tactics at home against a weak side that is 19th?
I don’t think Burnley were close to scoring against us all game. The Onana pen was a gift.

Hojlund deeper than our midfielders.

Ten Hag's tactics are nonsensical. Hojlund's biggest strength is running in behind so he has him playing as a target man. He has Eriksen as our deepest in possession. Wan Bissaka pushes up into the half spaces where he gets the least space. He says our stratgy is to get the ball to the wingers in dangerous positions as quickly as possible but then has them track two players in the press. Each decision is against each player's biggest strength.

I wouldn't mind if they were the anomaly. I wouldn't mind the results if his ideas made sense, but they clearly don't. I don't see that the players have given up on him either. All the factors point to him.

Love Hojlund's attitude and spirit, but hard to shake the suspicion he's little more than a developmental player who would struggle to maintain a starting XI job for most mid table sides.

I’m not sure I agree. ESPN has made negativity a priority on most of their shows. I mean, First take and Get up are pretty much awful shows. Maybe it’s just a Reddit thing.

Pretty sure it it worded as qualifying to CL, since it is the qualification that is tied to money, not so much the league place per se (and the clause has to allow for possible change in number of places allocated to PL in CL).

Seems like he's doing it to take shots at ex players who have dared to criticize him. Saying they should know things take time. As if the two situations are even remotely comparable.

Nah Americans are down to be negative too, but yeah we are a bit more optimistic by nature I’d say. But at this point it feels like the only “optimistic fans” left are top reds that just think the entire issue is the glazers or something.

Its just hilarious and delusional. Why 04/05 specifically? He's not even remotely close to that team. He should be comparing his team with the Rangnick team from the year before he joined. That's his level. He created the worst United side in the PL era and maybe the worst since Fergie took over. And that's after £400m spent and total control over on-pitch matters. What if he had no money to spend? Where would we be?

To quote Elton John, it’s a sad sad situation and it’s getting more and more obsured.
I think the vast majority of us fans wanted ETH when we were looking for a new manager, lots of choices but we were very happy with who the board settled for.
What a shame it’s turned out this way especially after we won the league cup in his first season.
As for who I would wish to take us over can we have a look at some up and coming British manager who has done his apprenticeship and actually learned to manage players and get a system of decent play out of players.
