I can't remember the last time I've actively looked forward to a manager of ours being replaced. He's on a different planet. I'm tired of his decision making, I'm tired of his lack of standards, and I'm tired of his lack of preparation for a game like this. We were 3-0 up FFS! Utter embarrassment.
Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho were not that long ago. I was ambivalent about Ole.

Based on what exactly? Short of a shocking decision in our favour (against 115 charges no less), we're not beating City. Not after we almost bottled a 3-0 lead against the mighty Coventry.

That's not how football works

Nothing stopping us announcing a new manager search for next season.

Not giving him a contract extension is doing the same thing just not openly.
Yeh I agree, I wish we would just announce that he is leaving at the end of the season. I'm actually worried that Ineos haven't actually made up their mind yet, which would be crazy.

He should be sacked, but the problem is that players like Rashford will be given another chance again. So many of these players need binning and they won't with another manager.

fecking off this abomination of a manager doesn't mean we shouldn't or won't change player material.

Only happens if the club is stupid.

At the end off last season I was all about giving him another year. I supported his signings in the summer because although there were potentially some issues with it, I also felt he had a clear and decisive plan. But going back about four months now, I’ve been saying that the man is a fecking turkey. I have NEVER seen a more poorly organised, tactically naive United side as I’m seeing this season. Beyond atrocious defensively. The midfield set up is suicidal. And there is no upside, because the attack is toothless.

I don’t know if he’s clueless, completely lost the plot, never had a plot, or just overwhelmed by the job; but whatever it is, he has to go and that has been the case for some time. It’s clear he has completely lost the buy in of the players, who look as confused and frustrated as we all do. That said some, like Bruno, continue to try their best, while others…..looking at you Marcus…..appear to have completely downed tools.

I think Rashford has been very unfairly treated by fans in seasons gone by, as he’s often been our brightest spark under shitty circumstances; but this season he has been a disgrace, and I have no will or energy to defend him.

His substitutions changed the game.

And he can't react to tactical changes made by the opposition manager. In this case a middling Championship manager.
He put on Danish and Brazilian international’s against a fecking Championship team, who were two of the most experienced players on our bench.

There wasn’t some kind of massive tactical shift from Coventry. They attacked a bit more. You don’t need a change for that, the players need to take some responsibility. The likes of Keane talk about it all the time, funnily enough proper leaders.

I'm just having a laugh tonight but on a serious note. He didn't do anything special today, we were shit when we were 3-0 up but somehow Coventry were worse, they played with zero aggression and ambition, at 3-0 they had nothing to lose and upped their game while we roughly stayed the same. I don't think that ETH's subs hurt us because the players that were replaced weren't good.

And yes, even though I do put a big part of the blame on ETH, the players lack of grit during the game and especially during the second half is largely on them.

Overall, he's not the worst manager post SAF because he's won something and he had a decent first season. But some of the performances under him have been the poorest of any manager post SAF.

Moyes and Van Gaal at their worst would have still won comfortably today.

We go life and death with literally any team in the league pyramid because our structure is an absolute joke and we're so easy to play against. Out of possession we have no intensity, no pressure whatsoever.

We announce he's been unexpectedly called back to his home planet.

Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho were not that long ago. I was ambivalent about Ole.

Honestly, this feels different. Moyes wasn't the right fit, for sure. But I didn't hate the football to the same extent as this. Van Gaal tried to employ a certain style that didn't work and it came off as boring, but he had redeeming qualities. I didn't actively dislike him. Mourinho had his moments, but it wasn't the right direction for us for the long term. This time around is just different. This is a much lower level of performance. I am looking forward to ETH going much more than the other managers, and I have been feeling that way for much longer/earlier in the season.

Similarly to LVG, I quite like ETH as a person so would have loved to see him succeed. Very different to Jose who I thought should have been sacked after his Sevilla comments, or Moyes who you just had to feel bad for by the end.

But Jesus christ we are bad. I'd be all for giving a caretaker - anyone really - a shot at the rest of this season, as its clear ETH's plan has been shot to pieces and he is incapable of fixing this.

Ole at the wheel for the final? I genuinely think it's our best chance at winning it ..

I don’t really understand how the players aren’t catching any flack compared to the manager. People are vastly overstating how much control a manager has in the middle of a game, especially from a winning position. If you’re losing you can go gung-ho etc.

What’s he supposed to tell the players? You listen to any ex-pros and they tell you it’s always about the players once the game has started.

That said, he’s still gotta go.
The manager controls it partly by his substitutions. Taking off Mainoo and leaving us with no defensive midfield cover was criminal

He should be sacked, but the problem is that players like Rashford will be given another chance again. So many of these players need binning and they won't with another manager.
Yeah, but the guy who starts Rashford every single game and never subs him will surely get rid.

Thing is we can’t just wait until late May too many clubs are looking for managers we need to make our move for next season

We’ll stall on a decision and get battered in the final meanwhile the best candidates will be already picked up

We can't close a single game out, no matter the opposition. Sorry but structure isn't going to change that, neither will fewer injuries.

Ten Hag plays him in every game and somehow ETH staying means Rashford will leave?

If they sack ETH then a new manager is going to be given a chance to work with these players and make their own mind up.

And the cycle continues with this club. If Ratcliffe and the new CEO etc are truly serious, they will be ruthless and kick plenty out starting with Rashford.

If they don't start being ruthless, nothing will change.

Van Gaal lost a game 4-0 to MK Dons, in fairness.

Again, if that happens the club is stupid.
The whole point of hiring a head coach after the sporting and technical director is that the manager coaches the team and does not build the squad.

Utterly embarrassing shit show, I have mates messaging me saying it’s so fun cos they know we’ll keep him around as long as possible it’s got to that stage.

Blaming the manager is the easy and obvious answer.

As much as I’m not impressed with what we’ve been enduring this season, I want these players out first. Literally most of them Barr a few.

Doesn't really have many other options, Antony is a disgrace and Amad is probably not ready. New managers will want to assess again as usual.

Luckiest guy in the world. That shit saves him until the end of the season... Ole kind of luck
Do we actually believe he’d have been gone tomorrow if we lost? It’s always gonna be at the end of the season. That’s when new things start, everything will be in place in the summer. ETH is going it’s just whether he goes on a high or not with the FA cup. We should take note of what spurs did with sacking Mourinho despite getting them in a final.

The opinion was that his disciplinary measures haven't been successful. The Sancho thing you keep bringing up is a red herring, I'm not suggesting that there will never be disciplinary issues, I'm saying he's handled them very well, and the Sancho thing is a great example. Under previous managers that kind of falling out could (and did) lead to mutiny, whereas under Ten Hag the player has been excised without poisoning the well.

Well not really, the idea that he has been successful in that regard is just your opinion. All I did was pose the question based on objective events that happened well into his 2nd year in charge that maybe he hasn't managed to get a handle on disciplinary issues yet.

There's no contradiction at all. You've made a distinction where none exists. We're adopting a system that doesn't work yet, as we don't have the personnel to make it work, so it looks like a strange hybrid at the moment. Like I said, we can't stick with the mid block that most of this squad was built for, buy the players for his ideal system, and make the switch overnight. I'm pretty confident that any proactive system we tried to adopt, under any manager, would take time to adopt and would be far from optimal for a while, hence why I'm not up in arms at that being the case now.

So why persist with something that clearly isn't working when there will be very little if any tangible benefit in doing that?

ETH's entire tenure at United has been driven by his calamitous transfers. All of them were his choices and spare Martinez (when healthy) they have all ranged from terrible to mediocre and after spending £355m in two summers, there's simply no defending him after falling from 3rd to 7th.

So we take off a 19 year old kid for a danish international and that causes us to concede 3 goals to a championship team? He’s clearly not taking him off for tactical reasons.

I’m bored of even coming across as defending him because I don’t want him here next season, but this squad, mentally, are as bad as it gets.

This isn’t based on anything, managers get rid of players when they come in all the time. Ten Hag backs Rashford, he isn’t going to be getting rid of him if he stays.
