What exactly is ETH level? I'm not necessarily advocating for Southgate to United so let's get that out of the way but I'm curious as to where people get this idea that ETH is levels above the likes of Southgate. Ten Hag hasn't done anything to warrant being viewed levels above someone like Southgate. He's been a failure at United so far, his Ajax tenure in the league should be irrelevant to any sort of valuation given the innate dominance that comes with that team in their league and his Champions league run with Ajax could be likened to the cup runs Southgate has had with England where he'd reached a semi final and final in major competitions.
So what exactly put Ten Hag levels above the likes of Southgate?
I was only just thinking of this. I don’t know what his level is based on this season. I don’t know how much of it is the Circus element of being United manager or he’s just not good enough.
If you changed nothing at spurs or Villa and ONLY piled on the pressure , expectations and relentless scrutiny, I’d say these clubs would be doing nowhere near they are now.
It’s obviously not that straightforward as United have technically stronger squad on paper, certainly when players are available. But I say it moreso to wonder How would Emery and Ange deal with pressure ? I’m not sure either way as quite often you don’t know how players/managers will handle the prsssure.
Ange ball seems to be as chaotic As ETH ball, if an Ange United loses 4-0 to Newcastle, he won’t get away with the lack of scrutiny he will have at spurs who are just happy to be probably in top 5. Both Villa and Spurs seem to be bottling it a bit , even though United making it so easy for them, surely if we want an alternative manager, they should be able to grind out some wins and not be fumbling over the line.
While it’s not exact, I’d say I’d rate them about the same. Doesn’t mean we keep ETH or never give one of them a chance, I’m just not convinced either of them are massive upgrades and think it’s easier to manage Villa/Spurs when getting in top 5 is far easier with Chelsea and United being so poor.
