What stands out to me is ten Hag demands a lot from the players and they need to earn their position in the team. He come across as tough but fair and will keep the standards high.

Comparing an aging Matic who's best times were behind him to a young Martinez is a bit different.

In this occasion Martinez would be the Fabinho, somebody like Schone would be the Matic.
Worth bearing in mind that Matic was "only" 29 when we signed him.

People were getting giddy yesterday on the Eriksen thread about how "these days" players can go on for a lot longer than they used to be able to manage. Maybe so, but United haven't had much consistent success there. For every Giggs and Scholes there's a Rooney or Matic.

Straight up says English players are overpriced, love it

I had read about this from his time in Ajax, he's a coach whos' not afraid to change player's positions. We might end up surprised with the result. Myself, like Ten Hag, would rather buy the proper player rather than buy one that doesnt convince us. Last season we had a very big squad in numbres but with a bunch of holes in it.

This is our guy. I have no doubt about it.

Whether he can get to Guardiola/Klopp level remains to be seen but right now, for where we are, this is our guy.

I know it’s early days but I really like the cut of his jib, the things he says indicate no messing, we’re here to make this club competitive and hopefully successful again.

short of Pep and Klopp I believe we have signed the best coach around. Thank god it wasn’t Poch!

Great interview. I have a really good feeling about him. Tough and demanding, but fair. And he seems to know exactly what he wants, both in the transfer market and from the players already here.

Andy Mitten actually said in a podcast with the norwegian MUFC fan club on www.united.no that with Ten Hag we will see a mixture of both Klopp and Guardiola styles :D

I sometimes dislike Mitten. Very arrogant sometimes. But if you see past the arrogance, it was a very good interview. I liked that part about playing style to be honest :) I read somewhere that his style is more like Pep, but he can’t be compared to him alone because he got elements of Klopp as well. It’s Erik ten Hag football.

I like everything he says so far. The bit about the English players being overpriced is true (Rice for instance is a really really good player but 100 million?) and I'm glad someone said it.

I wonder..

Before he came there was a lot of fuss about his (English) speaking ability... What is the overall perception regarding this topic?
he seems absolutely fine. Has the accent but can get his ideas across with ease and conviction. Really looking forward to him. No need for media chit chat either, straight to the point, and back on the training ground

Hm maybe he has gotten more arrogant over the years, cause he seemed much more enthusiastic in the earlier years as a journo.

Yeah i quite enjoyed the interview myself :D Pep`s style is very methodical but effecient, so a mix of that and Klopp`s heavy metal style sounds great!

After listening to McClaren talk about his first time meeting Ten Hag when he was the manager for Twente and Ten Hag was his assistant manager, when he explained Ten Hag`s attention to details and how he planned every second for pre season and how Ten Hag`s advice on subs impacted the games i have been sold and became a Ten Hag believer!

Mitten, arrogant?

He is the most clued in and rational of all the top tier United journos. He knows what he is on about and has encyclopaedic knowledge of the clubs history, and some brilliant stories.

The only group I could see feeling he is arrogant are the hysterical online fans he calls out. But he is a very normal bloke which is why, IMO, he is so likeable.

It is pretty clear that he is the best coach we could have got and appointing him was the only brilliant decision we've made in the last nine years. Even if he's not quite Pep/Klopp level I'm quite confident that he's in the tier just below those two alongside Tuchel and Conte, with the potential to get better as he adapts to the league.

Also theres a story going round the club wanted to go to the neighbours TV show set for PR, and ETH refused it. Hope its true

He use to talk about how he knows everyone and talks a big game. But arrogant might be a poor choice of word. Sometimes I get a feeling that he is a bit high one himself. Might be very wrong.

That said, I do read or listen to him on a regular basis. I like how he obviously loves United and got very good knowledge.

He also seems to suggest that FdJ is odds in our favour to join still.

Yeah it was in that ESPN article. He told the club that the most important thing on the tour is training. Everything else comes after that. He pissed the likes of Luckhurst off by not doing a press conference.

Is it? Or he is talking about different position? Isn't Frenkie more advanced mc and holding midfielder is something else?

Or he sees FDJ as holding mid?
Frenkie is a deep playmaker, he's never been the advanced midfielder.

I’m not surprised he didn’t do another press conference. I don’t think he wants to answer another dozen questions about Ronaldo.

So good going journalists. You fecked yourselves by acting like the little kid asking ‘Are we there yet’ every minute.

So I'll take that as if we don't get De Jong someone like Garner has a chance to become that player.
That's a confident manager that believes in his coaching ability instead of one who would panic buy.

Exactly. With or without FDJ, I think ETH will develop one or two from our team. Garner, Hannibal, Zidane, etc…

I completely agree. Hence why I actually don't mind his 'FdJ or noone' quote. Under previous managers that would have been a nightmare comment but I like that he's taking a gamble on either FdJ comes or we develop his like within our group.

Ronaldo, Maguire, and, likely, the Fred McTominay partnership are what he will work with. He will have to be everything he was reputed to be, an excellent man-manager and a brilliant football mind.

I think it's weird that it was highlighted as an issue. His English is better than Van Gaal's, for a start.

Nice to see him be so confident in his coaching ability. Means, if the right player is not currently available we'd be able to go for a more raw/undercooked option with confidence knowing he knows how to develop them (unlike our previous managers who generally stagnated/ruined them)
