What is embarassing? Winning games?
Your standards must be low to be happy with that performance.

We're not going anywhere playing like this. (This isn't a one of either, it's more like the expected)

Another game with the opponents having 20+ shots on our goal. The most they've had all season.

Our players are also really wasteful. We should have scored more than 2.

None of our games are ever comfortable.

59% possession, 100+ more passes

And the xg differential was in our favor. And that doesn’t account for conditional outcomes i.e., how much easier the game would have been if we just put away one of all those chances. It really shouldn’t have been in doubt and that’s our fault but we were not dominated.

Good win at a place where many teams have struggled.

Exactly this, expected nothing but a tricky game from this Luton side. If we had our finishing boots on, we'd have got at least 5 goals today, but happy with the result because we deserved it more and happy with the second half performance. Just going to enjoy the win and put this thread on mute for a little :)

Our performances this season. Every game is a basketball game. We've had the luck of bounces the past 5 or so games. West ham, villa and Luton all had over 20 shots. Newport and Wolves had 17/16 shots. It's not a good performance, you can't just look at the result and think it's good team development because we have a lucky run of grinding out results after half a season of pathetic results. It's literally just variance swinging in our favor after it wasn't in our favor, but it's not any sort of performance building. It's showing nothing for future optimism. In fact performances like these show we're likely to bounce back down sooner rather than later. It's not sustainable to concede 20 shots per game.

We missed chance after chance. We should have scored at least 5-6 goals. We controlled this game by letting them have ball and going for counter attacks. Had Luton scored 2-2 we would score one more.

Theres going to be a lot of talk about the number of shots they had:

Were any of those shots good chances?
58% possession, 22 shots, 1.74 xG. It's way too high, and it happens every game. You can't claim it's all pot shots, conceding that many chances and the frequency at which they get in our box is just horrible from us. Happens against anyone.

Yes we deserved to win. But it's not a performance that will translate well to better teams. It's end to end always, even against Luton, even against Newport. That's what the issue is. It shouldn't be end to end. We need to control games.

Hard to play football when you got the spine of the team in Varane and Casemiro who treat the ball like a hot potato and then Bruno spamming misplaced passes.

6 wins 1 draw in last 7 games.

ETH out-ers are upset. :(

Come through a banana skin type of game in a tough away game. Very unlucky not to have won more comfortably. Stuff to work on though obviously but Shaw, Maguire and Casemiro going off didn’t help either.

In the second half you can argue we did but we had zero control of anything in the first half after their goal.

Performances like the last five games are massively sustainable and show we are doing well.

you don’t win five games in a row in the prem due to luck of the bounces

You're wasting your time debating the Ole kids.

Was good to get the win and we’ve got a few in a row now but we really need to be controlling games much better that we are. I know we’ve all been saying this for so long now.

It's scary how many shots we concede but we also have 20 ourselves and more for us are actually nailed on chances in recent games, opposition it's a lot of nothing attempts. It's exhausting way to play though and we have so many yellow cards due to no control. We can blame the refs but we're on the backfoot getting hassled and they can easily con the refs, we really need to get a more passing rhythm going and coast a few of these games.

Could've scored 5 but still feel we got away with that one. We are so easy to play against, wide open spaces defensively and barely any pressure at all on the ball. When we do get the ball, either after heading away one of the countless crosses into the box or by blocking a shot, we have no idea how to slow the game down and breathe a bit under possession. This back-and-forth, swapping chances type football might win us a cup here and there, but it's never going to work if we want to win the league.

This forum is so weird when it comes to criticism and winning matches, like it shouldn’t be allowed or something?

The same thing happened with Solskjaer, we were winning games but it was clear as day the performances weren’t sustainable, just as they are looking at ETH.

We are 2-0 up after 6 minutes how do you lose control of a match like that against Luton of all teams and look dogshit? Why can’t this be criticsed? Great we got the win but we cannot continue to play like this and expect to actually win anything, we look awful.

Result is great but if every game is some end to end nailbiter that can go either way, it’s a concern.

The best sides absolutely have games like this but they’re few and far between. They shouldn’t make up the majority of the games.

Ridiculous and frankly unserious structure and tempo to our game. No way we will ever win anything with such clownish principles in and out of possession, we literally play a hockey style match, while being unable to keep up with opposing teams. Must have had like 15 yellows this season from poor prevention of counter attacks. Whatever he tried to build last season is gone, we can just pray not to concede 3 in every match without Lisandro as long as we play like this.

I do fear for us a little bit with city away coming up soon. But also with how clinical Liverpool and arsenal are showing they can be those could be tough old games for us too.

We give up way too many chances simply cause we seem to be too scared to put a foot in.

Basketball game? We are winning. That is what matters right now. You are correct about them having lot of shots. But most of them are just non dangerous. Also, it is not that we don't shoot. We have equal or more shots. Problem is just scoring from our part.

You’d have to be incredibly naive to disagree with this post. Surely everyone can see this if they watch our games.

You're fighting a losing battle with this lot. The scoreline on the day is the only thing that decides whether we're good or bad.

I mean they were constantly in dangerous positions up until the last kick. It was hardly comfortable even if they didn't have any clear shots on target.
If you strolled in thinking Luton away is a comfortable fixture then it sounds like a you problem.

Casemiro? He should have been sent off. Absolutely liability

"twice as bright, half as long"

I think describes our match performances this year.

We often start great and then just get into a panicky muddled time and time again.

Good three points though

Yep, it's the same shit I've been arguing with people about for weeks that are just looking at the results and wondering why some of us are unsatisfied. It's like painting a house and adding a pool/beautiful back yard and people are wondering why anyone is unhappy with this shiny beautiful home while a few of us are just staring at the rotting foundation and know it's just a matter of time before the floor caves in.

The results are coming so the criticism won't be as hard, but we need to seriously improve. Getting dominated by relegation teams is unacceptable, we never look under full control and it will ultimately cost us. Just like it did in the UCL.
