Should keep him and give him time. Should send a signal to the players that they won’t get what they want by downing tools.

The players aren't downing the tools. They were trying to attack and press tonight. They are just clueless due to the lack of tactical plan and some of them are just bad players in general. I have seen no one not putting out efforts tonight. That's just our level.

We've been beyond awful in both boxes all season and it's impossible not to point the finger at the manager in that situation. He's had 2 months to remedy it.

It feels largely immaterial to me at this point anyway because the apathy has set in. We won't make it out of the groups after tonight's result and I have no belief this team will do anything meaningful this season, under this manager or another one. I'm completely disinterested by the idea of spending another season scrambling for Champions League qualification next season only to fail in that task or even if we do succeed, fail when we get there.

We're actually worse than the Wenger Arsenal teams that would regularly get shown up by Bayern and Barcelona in the Champions League. That was a spineless team but at least they managed to qualify and make it out of the groups most years.

How the feck do we build from the back when our GK is a calamity waiting to happen and our CBs are fragile as feck.

We should've signed de Gea on a 1+1 year deal, bought a CB instead of the money spent on Onana.

Then he promotes Hannibal and Mainoo in the same position as his shiny new £60m signing in Mount, what was the point in signing him?! Spend the £60m on an athletic CDM who would have Casemiros place by the end of the season.

Piss poor squad management and signings, that is his undoing.

Martinez, Casemiro were good signings. Think Hojlund and Mount will prove the same. Antony may yet turn it around but his limitations are worrying. Onana either improves or he's an expensive miss. Amrabat and Reguilon that's yet to be seen.

Things can still get better but they'll have to improve quickly.

What I really liked about us last season (though that was mostly at Old Trafford) is team's resilience and the fact we didn't concede many chances, nor goals (in most of the games of course). Now that's gone and unfortunately not only because Martinez and Shaw are injured.

Casemiro is an awful business. We paid 60m for a player who isn't gonna give us any more than two years.. Looks even one year at best now, before turning into a very expensive washed out player, basically a deadwood.

Real Madrid robbed us as usual.

I can't endure the fact they are selling us their washed out players after they got their prime years from them. How are people fine with this? We are basically the MLS for Real Madrid.

His tactics are absolutely fecking shocking.
There are no tactics. :wenger: It's just unbelievable how we play. It's like what Id expect to happen if you just randomly picked 11 professionals players and told them to give it a go without any tactical instructions.

Imagine if Boehly were also allowed to run the team

You could have Jesus himself managing this team and we'd still see brainless football by our players.

Changing the manager now will just restart the 2 year cycle. Hopeless when your main talismans are Rashford and Bruno
Nah, Jesus would sort out this mess. For a start, we'd have a fit squad. And those players who defy him wouldn't be benched. They'd be damned.

Exactly mate.

Shit signings, shit football

He’s spent a fortune on absolute crap and needs to go.

Which is an even bigger concern because many of these players were his signings a d players he chose to keep, give new contracts too. If this is our level, then it's mid table at best but currently relegation form at worst.
At least if the players arent giving it 100% because they've stopped performing for the manager, at least the hope is someone else can come in and turn it around.

Were actually worse at this point than at any point since 2013. Worse of all, the finances arent there to buy our way out of this mess.

I'm one of those that wasn't completely happy with Casemiro even last season and was worried he may have started to show he's on a decline. But he still improved us significantly last season and we finished 3rd with a trophy. Not saying that makes him brilliant signing as he really was/is a short term fix but can't say he'sr "an awful business". Just a case of that we need a younger back up or a partner for him.

A couple of questions I have that the club must consider.

1) How deep can the ship sink before you pull the plug? I personally don’t think it’s deep enough just yet but a couple more PL humblings to so called lesser clubs, a thrashing off City and being knocked out of the CL by the end of October would have me reaching for his P45.

2) What does he have at his disposal to turn this mess around and is it enough to do so? I see a defence ravaged with injury. But can this be all bad luck or is there something else to it. Once the defenders come back, we should see improvement but we’re still talking months in some of their cases. And then worryingly, I see a goalkeeper prone to costly mistakes at any moment, a disjointed midfield looking for balance, and a paper thin attack with a few kids being thrown in to paper over the cracks. I also see his expensive flops riddled throughout the squad, I see Sancho, Maguire and McTominay ousted with little to no way back, and fans turning against him as every poor performance and/or result follows another.

To summarise, I fear this may be the start of the end.

I’m not blaming ETH for most of this, though he has made mistakes. Yet again, IMHO, our players are throwing a manager under the bus. Whether some of them want the manager out, I have no idea, but so many are underperforming. I feel for ETH, he must feel like he is swimming against the tide, given the mess he is dealing with in the squad and in the boardroom. I fear he will end up being sacked and the next guy will have the same experience. It just keeps happening.
I feel sorry for him too but the facts are we deserve barely 1 win this season.

At a top club (which apparently we still are) you just cannot do it. It’s a step too far - regrets or not.

I’m not enjoying his style. Slow on the counter and can’t control a game against anyone world class.

If he’s trying to turn us into Ajax we’ll get slapped in PL as Ajax would get slapped in the PL regardless. That would be the norm.

Casemiro already looks like needs replacing, 1 year into a (4?)year deal on £300k+ a week. Martinez is a very niche CB, lacking in physicality, another manager would likely not fancy him in the PL.
Said before I think Hojland and Mount are likely to be of the most use of the £400m spent.

I just can't see it happening. There will be a good result somewhere in the next couple of games, like when Ole beat Tottenham in the middle of his worst run, but then we will revert to this normality with a couple of hammerings and that will be it for him unfortunately.

Agree with this, unfortunately.

Its game over for Ten Hag, I really wanted this one to work out :(

No idea where we go from here

Unless Onana turns it around along with Antony, I'd agree.

Right now his focus should be survival mode, getting 3 points vs Brentford somehow. Managing the copenhagen midweek fixture and building momentum off that. It seems a long way off but he needs to get back to basics.

Tbh, I really believed in him after last season. I thought he made mistakes for sure, but overall, he had a decent/good first season. However, this season has been a shambles. Even if we win the next 3, I see some really brutal results when we start facing better oppenents again. Winning those games feels like when Ole/Jose saved their skin a few times, but we knew what was inevitably coming.

With each passing match, I'm losing faith. I know he's had a tonne of adversity to deal with, but our performances have been really, really bad. I'm not seeing what tactical direction we're heading at all.

However, as I said in another thread, I'm totally apathetic at this point. The next man that comes in is likely to fail given the horrendous footballing structures in place at this club. It would be good if he can survive until a takeover when we might see the club move on from it's early 2000's model. I like him, and I think he's probably a good coach, but he has a huge mountain to climb.

Damn! he may not have been all that either, but as interim coach we'd at least get a bounce.
That's exactly what Germany hopes for

He might be available after the Euro, it's not a long term contract.

problem is, do you trust the club in getting the right replacement

I think he has enough "soldiers" behind him to turn it around, but it literally has to be now. He needs to beat Brentford, Copenhagen home and away and Sheffield.

That will buy him goodwill to potentially have a respectable loss to City and continue momentum from there.

But a draw in any of our next 4 games is precarious. That's how much he's on the edge right now.

took German NT job.
Munich fans also hated him. What the chance he would survive here?
I said later on as an interim we'd get a decent bounce. Besides he at least managed to win the league as shit as he was for Bayern.

I like him as a person. Wish him luck in his next endeavour but bring in someone else who’s mad enough to take the job.

At this point I’m indifferent to it all while the Glazer’s are still here.

No point. He did a good job last season. Unfortunately he didn’t get what he needed in the window and now so many have down tools. This club needs a change from the top down. Not sure how many different managers it will take for people to realise.
