Regular game time
He is playing every week for Spurs.
Regular game time
He is a starter though.
Yes he is, but he wouldn't be in our strongest 4231, he's currently benefitting from playing 3 at the back. That said he is one that allows us to play the 3. But he's also the only of the 3CB's that we could upgrade and have cash left over to use elsewhere.
This could be an interesting deal for us to consider.
This is one that I could see Spurs strongly considering, at the right price.
In a 4231 Dier wouldn't make our strongest xi. I think he's now a 4th choice in central midfield, and second choice as a straight DM behind Wanyama.
Alderweireld and Vertonghen are clearly our 2 best CB's and Dier as the third would be the only one of the 3 where an upgrade could be reasonably found.
He might be useful in 3 positions but he's not the main man for us in any of them, £40m+ for such a player would be an interesting one to consider. A lot may depend on where Poch thinks CCV is in his development.
If Utd want him strongly enough this may just happen.
How many trophies have you won during that period? Even during our struggles, we've won more than your team can dream about.
[QUOTE="SammyUnited_83, post: 20652301, member: 60665"]Would Spurs have kept Bale, if the only bid on the table that summer was £80mil from City / Utd and the player was desperate to leave? No. There is a huge difference by the way from a playing wanting to leave, and someone who is desperate to leave that they are happy to down tools / go on strike etc etc.
The only reason you haven't sold to a domestic rival is because you have had the choice, and the players you had were that good, that they attracted Madrid, a club that 99.99999% of players choose above anyone.
I'm sure at some point one of your star players will go to a domestic rival, and as a Utd fan I'm not foolishness enough to think we are immune from the same fate - all clubs are.
Sigh.
He wanted to sign for us.
Spurs wouldn't let him
go but he wanted to leave for
more money/trophies, so they made him certain promises and he signed for Madrid a year after.
It wouldn't have mattered how desperate he was, he was on a 5 year contract and Levy didnt want to sell him to us, and Modric was professional enough to not complain publically
I agree with most of this. I think Levy might sell to United if a big offer is made - this is because Dier is not in the category of 'star players' at Spurs and so Levy wouldn't be changing the policy that's stood since Berbatov.
The only part I don't think is yet sure is the bit about Dier as 2nd choice behind Wanyama in the DM position. Because we've gone for 3 at the back - and Dier fits this pretty well as the right-sided one of the 3 - we've not yet really seen whether Poch would otherwise choose to start him ahead of Wanyama. Although the latter has been mostly impressive, so was Dier last season in that position.
However, the emergence of Winks now changes things further, so Poch may well consider that - if for big money - Dier can go.
But if Poch now see 3 at the back as his favoured system - and it seems that he does - then Dier's stock becomes more valued for Spurs.
Pretty sure we would have.
My point being if he was that desperate to play for us, he would have said to Tottenham I'm only signing for Utd. He wasn't so he went to Madrid.
RvP was desperate to play for us and turned down other moves abroad, which Arsenal would have much preferred.
He could have said what he wanted, Modric said the same about Chelsea and went nowhere.
I just corrected your "1 season" post. If you now want to switch track onto trophies, that's another matter.
Head, against, wall.
Would he have gone to Chelsea? Yes. Was he desperate to force a move when you refused (like Berbatov was)? No. He didn't force the move as it wasn't his dream club, if it was, he would have got his way.
If there was only domestic interest you would have eventually sold, yeah you might have saved face for a year but ultimately he would have gone.
I am not being critical as all clubs (utd included) would eventually budge. It's happened on many, many occasions.
Look at Sterling, Liverpool were desperate to sell abroad, couldn't drum up interest, realised they could only sell domestically and pulled City's pants down.
Are you telling me Spurs would have kept Sterling in the same situation?
Block-headed cnut. Remember when he said this before we beat Spurs at home.
OK, you guy's finished above us twice, but your fans talking smack is laughable when you're won nothing of significance.
Bang average and an icon for Englisj football, strong, physique but extremely limited. From Carrick to Dier would just highlight how far we have fallen.
There's literally no Spurs fan in here talking smack.
It appears that your feathers have been ruffled by the fact that it wouldn't be deemed a step up for any of our first team players to join Utd currently.
You can bring up trophies and you can try to diminish our league positions in the past few seasons all you like, it doesn't change anything.
It's not about where he was in the academy, but the type of football and players English clubs like, albeit different players, English football need more of Winks' type players and less of Dier. 11 bricks who could switch to a match of rugby in half time doesnt help, not for the national team nor for the teams in Europe, not that Dier is a pure brick, he has decent passing but he's just very limited and pretty much only suited for English football. These are the players that are rated most sadky enough, add in the Hendersons, Barkley's, Shaws if you want to.He's hardly an icon for English football seeing as he come through the youth programme at Sporting Lisbon.
Is there another fanbase that needs to lecture everybody about their future prospects and plans for world domination when their fecking DM is linked with a move away?

Finances, new ground and Spurs being a few fecking points ahead of us in the league are all brought up. Who fecking cares, you should bite our hands off if we're stupid enough to make an absurd bid for him. What does this even mean? Makes no sense!

There's no need to sell the forum on Spurs bright future.
That's true, however he is limited as in his reading of the game too which makes it very dangerous for a midfielder, English football undervalues the midfield enormously, when you put up players like Dier and Henderdon to try and win a cup, you are taking the piss. I dont think there are any world class DM at the moment as limited as he is; the likes of Kante/Matic/Nzonzi/Casemiro/Veratti/Fernandinho/Busquets are so much more skillful and better on the ball, If you want elite, you need better than Dier. We might as well play Fellaini there. He does have a nice free kick tho. There are plenty of limited players at big clubs and in major international teams, why, because despite having some limitations they do jobs within a team structure that are vital for a team to function cohesively.
It's unbelievably tedious. There was even a mention of Levy's Economics degreeIs there another fanbase that needs to lecture everybody about their future prospects and plans for world domination when their fecking DM is linked with a move away?

Why on earth would a player like Dier want to leave Spurs to go to Utd at the moment? Honest question.
Apparently he supports United too. Plus the most important thing to most players - wagesUnited are a bigger club
More illustrious history
Bigger fan base
To play at Old Trafford
To win trophies
Jose Mourinho
Off the top of my head..

Mr Average that we'll pay British tax to get. He's a 20m player at best....

I really like Spurs as I grew up minutes away from the stadium but the arrogance and pettiness of the Spurs fans here almost makes me dislike them.
