Eric Bailly | signs for Besiktas

he wants his wages paid by Man Utd for the whole season.
When they see former captain Maguire doing it I guess why wouldn't they follow.

It's telling that so many of our players are happy to sit here collecting their wage, rather than push for moves to reignite their careers. Shows the sort of losers we've been signing over the years

I read this comment a lot: "didn't work out for him here". What do you mean by that? Because for the last ten years it doesn't seem like the squad has had very many genuine Man Utd level players (Ibrahimovic, de Gea, Ronaldo, Cavani) with most of these players being old. Do you think it has worked out for Luke Shaw? He is nowhere near Man Utd standard and has won next to nothing, but seems to get a free pass. The guy can't even get in shape. What other defenders over the last ten years has it "worked out for"?
Unfortunately they all expect City to win the league before a balls been kicked, the total mental effort required is just not there, for example a mentality Roy Keane would have in his prime.

Shaw has been okay, injuries haven't helped his cause, he hasn't been the worst but maybe he hasn't the drive or mentality to win a league.

How many of this current team would feature in the 90s successful teams?

How was he treated badly? You don't think he should have been starting for us do you? Personally think he was symptomatic of the drop in standards at the club. Nothing player for us anytime he played.

He was immense in the Europa League final. Good player, not fit for a back four in PL.

Did he leave? Did anyone want him?

I thought he was going to Saudi?

He didn’t, still sucking the wages. However, there is still time to dispose of him to Saudi or Turkish league

I just looked and Bailly was on a Deadwood thread in 2020

The irony is we could have sold him for a lot more, saved all those wages and freed up a space in the squad for someone who may have become an important player for us if we’d been proactive and sold him back then. Its madness how we’ve managed to run a sporting project like this and keep a straight face while publicly saying we are striving to be the best. No chance.

sulking in our bench causing disharmony
Bit presumptuous.... he may well be staying for the wage, but that doesn't mean he's automatically gonna spit his dummy out. If he trains well and remains professional there's no reason he can't remain as an emergency option (even if we'd rather get rid)

It won't happen, but it would give me a chuckle if he was named in the Premiership and Champions League squads over Maguire.

He's been told to train on his own and away from Carrington, he posted a picture of him leaving the training complex for the last time last month. He isn't going to be an emergency option for anything, he's essentially without a club and won't be registered as part of our squad for anything.

How Is this guy still in contract? Mourinho signed him what must be about 7 or 8 years ago now?

I'm not sure if you've been following events over the last couple of years. He's not exactly the reserved type like Maguire and has a free flow of words without filter. There's a reason why no club wants him, nor ETH who now has Evans as a 5th choice CB. Bailly is a caustic presence around the dressing room and the last remaining one of that wretched 21-22 season. Maguire, Martial, McTominay, DVB may not perform well, but are not dressing room killers which is why they remain a part of our squad.

Maybe a Turkish club could come in for him?

I just look at players like Bailly and Martial and feel sorry for them. 7, 8 years ago they were signed as two of the most promising young talents around. That time has gone by in the blink of an eye, during which they’ve basically wasted their careers. They should’ve been cut loose years ago, but they’ve had multiple new deals. Why?

He’s gonna become like one of those people who a company think no longer works for them but it turns out they’ve still been on the payroll for like 10 years.

Gotta protect those assets.

He should be ahead of Maguire (and Lindelöf too) in the pecking order but ten Hag marginalised him for some reason. Really can't be worse than those two.

The two should be in entirely separate categories.
Martial had some strong seasons here and some great memories.
Bailly has had a mere handful of decent games mixed with vast months and months out, and played about 100 games in 7 years!

Woodward renewed him so the club could write him in the books as a more valuable asset so the club could borrow more money. Same thing for Phil Jones.

Early times but Caicedo with two errors leading to goals in just 3 games for Chelsea.

I look at them and feel sorry for us. They should've been shipped away a long time ago.
