Eric Bailly | BBC say signing is imminent

Did anyone actually mention this guy as a possible CB solution before we started being linked with him? Seems a fairly random sort of signing. Would he be first choice or just more reliable cover?
Just that after all the talk about players like Ramos, Laporte, Hummels, Varane, etc he would seem a bit underwhelming unless he's just coming in as cover / one for the future.

People on this forum aren't realistic. Pogba's thread a good example. Bailly is a very good player by the way would take him over Stones.

Cheers RS. From the description, he sounds exactly like Fosu Mensah.
A more proven version, I guess.

I know it's not much to go by, but he looks great from the clips.

The only one on that list who is still available for a right price is Laporte and he will get better offers than United.

A) We have to sign the players we're capable of signing.

B) The manager has to want the player rather than the players just being well known. For example, Mourinho might want pace and physicality in his team, in which case Hummels makes no sense.

Duncan Castles is suggesting that he will be one of two defensive purchases, which surprises me as we had a very good defence last year. If this is true though, then maybe he is a new right back as some are suggesting, because we still need a ball playing CD to replace Blind. I'd rather two centre mids (eg. Pjanic and Gomes) - but it makes one wonder just how many players we are signing! Add Zlatan and a right winger, and you get 6 signings!

I wanted 7. Jose usually brings in a lot first season.

With JoMo here I get the feeling I can actually relax and enjoy this muppet season like I haven't done in at least the last 5 years or so..

We have now got the 'Mourinho factor'.. Just repeat that to yourselves a few times and you'll be on the the 'easy ride' too..

Professionalism (is that a word?) at this level is something we've been missing since Sir Alex retired..

Cant wait for the new season to begin... BRING IT ON!!!

I agree. I think Mourinho with his record has earned the right to bring in the right players to fit the sort of team he wants to build - we just need to trust him.

Does he speak English? He can be an important link between our French and Spanish speaking contingents. Our French speaking contingent can rival the Spanish one for best group of mates. :D

I agree. It's about as realistic as you being on the forum if your club weren't owned by a pimp. The fact is, United will sign players. Who they will be goes beyond what you think. No offense to you. I'm sure you are a decent city supporter.

He's not a banned returnee, move on. Weaste had something like 90k posts btw.

Loves a slide doesn't he. He'll need to curb that tendency to run out of the back line and out of position. He seems fast though, which is always handy. I wish he wasn't injured for the Liverpool second leg, I remember the guys on five live saying he'll be the biggest miss for them. Sadly have no idea bar those youtube compilations, what he's all about.

Really happy with this if it happens. I'm struggling to think of a better traditionally solid defender who loves a battle/1 v 1 match up. Only 22, what a fecking monster!

Go back 10 months, replace "this guy" with Martial and "CB" with CF. We don't always need the big name in order for things to work out.

This eric bailly seems like an arsenal type of transfer. Just look at Gabriel and you know what I'm talking about. He better not be another Rojo/Gabriel type of player. What we need is quality in our team. I'm really hoping to get at least 2 players before the start of the euros.

Thanks for this. I can't pretend to be an Eric Bailly expert. The stats seem to indicate that he would be an asset. With his pace and power Bailly probably suits Mou's preferred way of playing more than most of our centre back options.

Really dont get the Rojo hate, he isnt that bad. But people do like spacegoats on here.

He really is though. His positioning must be among the worst I have seen for any first team CB at United. Lack of awareness, anticipation or general fotball intelligence doesn't help either.

This boy has over 20 appearances for a team that got to the Europa League semi and finished in the top 4 in Spain yet you would think we were signing some unknown mystery from Mars.
If this isn't a damning indictment of La Ligas tv coverage I dont know what is!

To be fair, in space Rojo looks like a goat.

I'd rather have a spacegoat at CB than Rojo.

Hes not up to the required atandard. No one on here thought he should be playing in central defence over Blind, a midfielder.

A CB is definitely needed, and getting someone at this kind of age will be great if he can settle in and be decent. I'd hope that Blind doesn't go and Jones can stay fit just in case. If Blind does go, I think we might need another CB as I'd rather see the back of Rojo and McNair now.

Haven't seen this lad play or even heard of him until the other day though.

Him and TFM in central defense... Would be entertaining to say the least!

I also thought Rojo wasn't bad at first but very average. After continously watching him make stupid clearances which cost us goals consecutively my mind was made up.

Also what is his best position? It certainly isn't Centreback. Let's call him out for what he is and not attribute it to him being a scapegoat. If a player isn't good enough there is nothing wrong with stating the obvious. Not that bad of a player isn't good enough for a club like ours.

In Smalling, Bailly, Jones and Rojo, although people may not rate the last two, we'd have plenty of pace and power in those four centre backs.
