Baffling he's getting the plaudits he is. Overall, he has a decent game, but was constantly out of position and completely at fault for their second goal. There's a reason their CF chose to run off him all night. Did well to recover as often as he did, and saved a few arses in the process, but there was bags of errors in his game.

There's always one...

He bailed out the travesty that was Maguire time and time again. They operate as a line, and with Harry's pace he has to keep in line with the rest of the defence to keep the offisde trap in play.

He was brilliant, the opposite of his partner today and should be recognised for that.

You can say he was at fault for both goals. Classic Bailly - some fantastic heroic last ditch stuff to save the team but that’s not what you want from a defender.
You can say whatever you like, but that doesn't make it true.

Almost had a perfect game. I gave him MotM and he would have gotten it were he not playing with the GOAT.

10/10? He was the sole reason that second goal went in, completely let Zapata go free. Typical Bailly, runs around being aggressive and headless, but always costs the team points.

First goal was lucky break due to poor touch from Scott and second one you could see Bailly tried to play him offside but for Maguire. Maguire was slow as usual
Bailly went rogue. Watch it again. He was with Zapata then lost him ridiculously, a simple ball over the top and he was in on goal.

Hahahaha people are still saying he makes mistakes when our "captain CB" makes at least three shock horrors a game and has 0 ability to ever block or recover on any attacker.

Bailly shouldn't have let Zapata run, but his aggressiveness and athleticism makes him a miles better CB than Maguire, not to mention how much better he is on the ball

So you're just going to pretend he wasn't at fault for their second, over committed for their first, and was run off time and again by their CF? Sure. Ok.

2nd goal is 100% on Maguire. Plays him onside and then wants to fanny about with his hand in the air instead of making up for his mistake. Wouldnt be too surprised if him not putting in much effort and holding his hand in the air so sure also made his teammates lazy including De Gea. But if you're Maguire, you know he was onside and you messed up.

Top class. I’ve always maintained he’s our best CB if he can stay fit. Him and Varane are a great prospect. Our captain is our third or fourth best CB this season.

Playing the guy about 4 yards offside whilst his CB partner is snoozing and someone has nailed his keeper to the goal line.
Watch the goal. Bailly didn't look across the line once. Not once. He had no bloody clue where the line was.

Maguire was too slow to get out for their second goal and played Zapata on.

Did some amazing stuff but also involved in both goals. Compensates poor positioning with Kung fu kick saves.

I think he would massively benefit playing next to Varane - it's so good having a central defender with pace to burn.

Such a shame Varane is injured but he will get a decent run in the team now and is head & shoulders better than that lump Maguire !

Yeah it was a good game from him. He's a good defender who will do dumb shit regularly.

I watched it again and he stepped in front and Maguire was slow as feck to see the trap.

He is an easy target. If it wasnt for him we would have been 3,4 goals down. He played for the trap and Maguire was sleeping

He is the opposite of Varane who makes the difficult look easy. Bailly makes the easy look difficult :)

Never heard of an offside trap? Come on now behave
Oh Bailly is playing offside now? Despite not once looking axross the line. Yeah, behave.

Rio is literally now analyzing Baillys defending for the goal on BT. Scholes says Bailly is 'done by his movement.' Rio said he should 'never be run beyond from there.'

He shouldn't let Zapata run so freely for the second but Maguire is feckin abysmal on it.

Rio says it, not only is he solely playing him onside by being too deep, he's left a huge gap between himself and Bailly for no reason

10/10 performance today, people blaming him for the second goal should look closer at Maguire and de Gea, criminal from both of them. Bailly was absolutely world class today, and stopped a few -certain goals- otherwise.

He also said Maguire should a) be in line and b) be closer to Bailly to close the gap.

Bailly gets done too easily by the movement, but Maguire should be there to help out... Like Bailly was constantly there all night to bail out Maguire

Maguire and De Gea should have done better for the second goal (and in general). Bailly was our best defender tonight.

Good game but I suspect he will do something calamitous the next time he plays

Great performance.

I think this one is the "Tuanzebe vs PSG performance of the season" for him.

Watch the second goal again and tell me what he was doing.
He was holding the line, unfortunately Maguire didn't.

Yes, you could say that, he shouldn't have let Zapata run past him, but Maguire should be the covering player. Varane would have been much closer, and would have snuffed that out, Maguire is just not with it at the moment, he needs a break I think. Not sure that the first goal is his fault.

He doesn't need to, Maguire does as he's the one looking at the entire fecking line.
Course he does.
Look, Maguire was shit. Doesn't suddenly make Baillys decision making here incredible. They've just analyzed the goal on BT Sport. Scholes points out how Bailly was done by the movement. Rio says a CB should never be done by a straight run and ball like that. Why pretend he wasn't at fault here? What's the gain?

People blaming Bailly fully for the 2nd goal here need to watch that post match analysis. Maguire primarily at fault (not saying Bailly is flawless there, but it's definitely on Maguire that)

He also said Maguire should a) be in line and b) be closer to Bailly to close the gap.

Yup. But I'm not trying to make out Maguire wasnt terrible. Does Maguire's horrendous performance mean Baillys errors are erased? If Varane is in that situation we wouldn't even be discussing it.

Don't rate him at all. Everything is last ditch. He got bullied by that striker on multiple occasions tonight.
He's played with multiple partners at United and it's never worked.
He's always a mistake waiting to happen and we'll never win a major trophy if he's on the pitch.

Course he does.

Why? Because Maguire (and you know I love Maguire) simply looking across his line, which is his number 1 fecking job from where he is and it's not a goal. Maguire actually instantly sticks his hand up because he think he's played him off.

If Maguire just does a simple piece of defending and there's no goal.

You’ve mistaken this for the Maguire thread.

I love this guy. If not for the injuries he'd be a regular starter for me.

Played well and certainly saved us a few goals but he was awful for their second goal. Looked a star compared to Maguire though

And Jake was questioning the tactical coaching on this? I know he's not the ex footballer here, but you evaluate what was the better decision in that moment. The ball is on Bailly's side of the pitch, and he decided to push forward to negate players running behind; Maguire was too slow too react to that as well as react to cover Bailly's advance. That's my opinion.

I'm not going to say Rio and Paul are wrong, nor say I'm 100% right. At the end of the day he's played a couple of games this season and did a lot of good things right tonight. I won't blame him for what could have been a simple offside trap helped by his teammate being switched on, and won't say he's the reason that 2nd goal went in.
