Jones is far better in the air than Bailly, despite not being particularly dominant.Jones is hardly dominant in the air. Climbing all over the back of strikers back while missing the ball or letting them go on corners. Bailly is superior defender.
Also, what makes Bailly a superior defender? He hasn't shown it in over 18 months, that's for sure. For some reason when it comes to Bailly there seems to be a lot of people who can't separate potential (which he does have) and actual current level. More than any other position, a central defender needs to show consistency. Something Bailly has never come remotely close to doing other than his first three months when he joined us. Since then he has been all over the place and is as likely to have an absolutely terrible match as he is to have a great one.
Bailly does have the potential to be great. I really do hope that he reaches that potential. But that's all it is at the moment. In terms of current level (and by that I mean over the last year or two) he is comfortably at the bottom of our pile of centre backs.
